… … …
Qu Feiqing took the bowl. Shu Juan looked up at her and glanced at her master for the last time, before bowing and withdrawing herself from the room.
Strange. Emperor Qu was acting strange indeed, she thought.
For ten days in a row, not once did she come to see her master nor did she bother to look over how her new companion was settling in. Only when the Young Lady fell sick did the emperor made herself present again.
Not only did she visited her, she also became so attentive to her suddenly. Even nursing her ill master all by herself!
Qu Feiqing stirred the concoction with a spoon to make the heat tolerable to drink. She then put it aside and woke Su Xin up.
Cold. Su Xin felt cold but it still couldn’t numb the aching muscles of her body. It was like she was hit by a truck, spasms of pain had her fidgeting and her mind was disoriented.
She opened her eyes with difficulty, her eyelid felt like it weighed a ton. Squinting her eyes, the first thing she saw was the hazy silhouette of Qu Feiqing.
She must be dreaming, why is the emperor here? Where is Shu Juan?
Qu Feiqing offered her a bowl of beverage, it was perfect to quench her thirst. But what she saw inside was a slimy, greenish herbal mixture. Horrified, she put down the bowl immediately.
“Drink.”
By the looks of it, she knew right away that it was one of those vile tasting medicine. So she shook her head, and looked away.
Not a chance, she mentally said.
At the back of her mind, she remembered that this was the emperor to whom she was interacting with, so she took the medicine and drank half of it in one breath.
As what she learned from her past life, fever blands a person’s taste buds, yet it seemed to be ineffective to her! Her mouth still twisted in grimace and the aftertaste was even more nauseating.
She continued to gulp down the rest and returned the bowl on Qu Feiqing’s hands empty. Right after wiping the residue from the corners of her mouth clumsily, she laid down again, unconcerned of how dishevelled she looked.
She was too worn out to care.
Qu Feiqing stuffed Su Xin’s mouth with a fruit candy and Su Xin’s frowning brows slowly eased.
Faint snores could be heard as Su Xin was already deep into oblivion. Qu Feiqing then slipped away to deal with her court affairs.
It was evening when Su Xin woke up again.
Shu Juan kept herself still by her master’s bedside as she waited for her to wake up. Seeing her master struggle to sit up, she went over her side and helped her.
“Young lady, you’re finally awake! Are you hungry?”
“A little…” Su Xin’s stomach grumbled as she didn’t eat all day.
“Wait, Young lady. I’ll bring you some plain rice congee.”
Su Xin looked at her clean clothes and rubbed her head tiredly. A dollop of wistful regret hit her deep in her heart, how could she be so unmindful!
Master Fourteen, I regret it.
[What do you regret? That you made a scene?]
No. I didn’t ask her if I was beautiful at such a opportune time yesterday.
Su Xin’s heart wailed, task, task! All these for nothing!
Last night was a confusing disclosure to both of them. If ever she had asked Qu Feiqing while in the moment if she thought she was beautiful, the emperor would have definitely answered yes.
[Oh.. that’s right. I also forgot to remind you. Tsk.]
Fourteen, somewhat annoyed with himself, could only stay mute. His host was strongly concerned about her privacy that when she needed it, he totally gave it to he and left her undisturbed behind the pixelated censor.
He failed to remind her of her task and now, they missed such rare opportunity!
The porridge given by Shu Juan replenished her strength as she ate with unashamed gusto and she no longer felt weak. She longed to vacate her bed and sit on a nearby table but her tired body wouldn’t listen to her demands.
After finishing another bowl of concoction, she went to sleep in a drowsy state until morning came.
