Chapter 58 – The Heart’s Delight (3)

Qu Feiqing knew this was no betrayal or deception from Su Xin. After all, nothing was ever promised between the both of them. There was even the unspoken agreement of not talking about the status of their relationship.

Su Xin did not say the same scarring words as last time, but what she said now was just the lesser evil of both—it didn’t make Qu Feiqing any happier hearing it.

Qu Feiqing let out a sneer, a murderous aura threatening to leak out from her. The hand that was brushing against the surface suddenly gripped the edge of the table and broke it under one terrifying crush enforced with chi.

Did she want to just leave this all behind? It’s won’t be that easy, she thought.

When did her palace become a place where one could venture in and out freely as if it was some kind of tourist spot?

What did she take her for? She treated Su Xin differently and was kind with her, but this was what she got in return.

Impossible. She would not permit it.

From the moment she had begun her plans on seizing the throne, despite the young age she had matured enough to learn that what she wanted, she had to hold tightly in her hands. Otherwise, it would escape or be taken away from her.

As per usual habit, Qu Feiqing later went to Su Xin’s quarter for an evening dinner together.

The dinner was uncannily silent, a heavy atmosphere bearing on the two of them. The only sound that could be heard was the sound of utensils brushing and clanking against porcelains and the audible sound of Su Xin’s chewing.

Su Xin knew something was up with Qu Feiqing, but she smartly stayed silently and waited for her to speak first.

After the tense dinner, they still went on their daily routine of a languid stroll around the palace grounds together. They had devised this small exercise of walking a few laps around the palace to aid the digestion of their full stomachs.

Usually, they would chat, but not on this particular night.

Qu Feiqing still refused to speak and Su Xin finally had enough of the agonizing silence. She didn’t like the way Qu Feiqing was dragging things out as if she had made a big mistake and Qu Feiqing wanted her to reflect on her actions.

“I presume you must have known about it. She must have told you.” Su Xin stopped walking and stood on the path looking heatedly at Qu Feiqing.

It was now dusk, the sun steadily disappearing bit by bit from the horizon to replace the once clear, blue sky with the blazing colors of reds and oranges.

The stars were beginning to appear one by one in the sky signifying that night was slowly coming.

Under the warm glow of the sunset, Qu Feiqing took two steps closer until she was in close proximity to Su Xin.

Her former anger had ebbed away to be replaced with the desperate need to keep Su Xin close to her.

“You wanted to go?” Qu Feiqing looked Su Xin in the eye with such a vulnerable look that Su Xin couldn’t help but be taken aback.

“Well.. not really. It’s just that there’s nothing to do here. It feels like a prison… But If I have you, I will stay.”

Su Xin thought hard for a moment, organizing her jumbled feelings between Qu Feiqing and her desire to see outside of the palace walls.

She wasn’t tired of life here yet.

But to spend her time adventuring and seeing new horizons was also a good option. It would even be better if Qu Feiqing came with her, but she knew this was a futile wish. Too far-fetched.

Qu Feiqing had blood on her hands for the very sole reason for taking the throne. She made sacrifices and had already progressed this far.

For Qu Feiqing to throw it away just for a lover’s fantasy—for her, Su Xin felt it was just impossible.
