Chapter 2057: Leader! Save Me!

“Is he dead?”

The middle-aged man looked at the lady before turning his gaze to the receding dust cloud.

The others followed the gaze of the middle-aged man, and right as the dust cloud slowly started to settle, the visage of a young man could be seen. Another figure was visible close to the young man, the figure was sprawled on the ground, immobile, it was unknown if the person was alive or dead. The dust cloud settled in the next few seconds and the figures became visible.

Grey, dressed in his usual black robes and trousers looked stunning, even the men could not deny the fact that he was exceptionally good-looking. As for the other figure that was sprawled on the ground, it was the man who was thrown Grey’s way when he retaliated. The man was dead, a small gaping hole present on his chest.

When the middle-aged man attacked, the reason Grey took that long to retaliate was because he was waiting for Void’s go-ahead. Only after Void had confirmed that the entire region was sealed did he make his move. He wanted to kill the middle-aged man, but he never expected him to be so cruel, pushing someone else into the attack.

Titling his head, Grey studied the people present. His gaze locked onto the lady who was the leader of the group. Although she could be said to be bulky, her red hair, along with her almost crimson eyes were captivating. She wore a velvet attire that did not hide her large muscles.

The lady, seeing Grey’s calm demeanor and scrutinizing gaze, felt her heart skip a beat. It was not that she was fascinated by his looks, instead, she felt an instinctive fear the moment their eyes met.

‘He’s strong!’ She came to this conclusion just from their exchange. One thing she never doubted was her instincts, and right now, at the sight of Grey’s eyes, alarm bells rang in her head. She needed to make sure she did not fight this young man.

Grey’s eyes did not stay too long on the lady, he moved his gaze to everyone present, before finally resting on the middle-aged man’s body.

The middle-aged man swallowed hard when he noticed Grey’s gaze, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. He did not need anyone to tell him to know the young man standing before him could kill him with ease. The person lying on the ground close to Grey was a Third stage Sovereign, and although the attack seemed sudden, only when the attacker was overwhelmingly powerful would the man die without even being able to react.

‘Even the leader can’t kill Craig with one move.’ He thought to himself before taking a few steps back, ensuring there were more people between himself and Grey.

“Boy, who are you?” The lady asked with a solemn expression, breaking the silence.

“A nobody. I just can’t seem to wrap my head around why as fellow humans, you see nothing wrong with working for the Gnomes, even going as far as killing those fighting against said threat?” Grey’s voice was calm, yet his cold eyes told a different story.

The lady, hearing Grey’s question, heaved a sigh of relief as she thought, ‘Since he wants to talk, there’s still hope for me to survive this.’

“We’re mercenaries, we have no masters. As for the Gnomes, we do not work for them.” The lady explained, fearing that Grey would continue his allegations, she added, “We were only resting here before heading out in search of our camp. As you know, the war has ravaged the entire continent, and even our previous headquarters has been overrun by those stinky Gnomes.”

“Oh, is that so?” Grey took a step forward as he asked.

“Yes, you can ask my men. I don’t know what you think we’re doing here, but we were only resting here.” The lady said confidently, while also signaling one of her men to speak up.

“Yes, the leader is telling the truth. We are only resting here for the time being.” The young man, who pointed at the middle-aged man earlier, spoke up once again. It was clear he was trying to get on the good side of the leader.

When Grey heard the young man speak, he recalled the voice. This young man was apparently the one who spoke about them waiting to capture the person who would come save the trapped scouts.

A playful smile appeared on Grey’s face as he asked, “Don’t you want to capture the person who’s coming to free the scouts again?”

“Huh? Ca…capture who?” The young man stammered before waving his hand fervently in front of him, “I have no intention of capturing anyone.”

Another Fifth stage Sovereign present moved closer to the leader of the mercenaries and sent a voice transmission, ‘Leader, why do we have to act so cautiously in front of this brat? I can understand if you’re scared of the people behind him, but with our numbers, we can definitely take him on. Remember, we still have that thing in case of a worse case scenario.’

This Fifth stage Sovereign was an elderly man who had an innocent look, if not for the fact that Grey saw him associating with the mercenaries, he would never believe that such an innocent-looking old man can commit such acts.

The lady looked at the elderly man who approached her and almost felt like cursing his entire family, ‘Who told you I’m afraid of the people behind him?’

The elderly man wore a surprised expression when he heard this and urged, ‘I, too, am not afraid. Give the order and I’ll charge forward with my brothers.’

‘Charge forward and die you fool. Do you think that person is someone we can deal with easily? Even if we eventually take him down, we’ll lose at least one third of our group. Can you pay for such a loss?’ The lady asked coldly.

The elderly man sucked in a cold breath when he received this transmission and could not help but take another look at Grey.

Grey stood there, seemingly ordinary. If the elderly man had not seen Grey in the middle of the dust cloud, he would have found it difficult to accept that such an ordinary person was an Elementalist.

‘What cultivation stage do you think he is?’ The elderly man asked with a hint of fear. He could tell from just a look that Grey was very young. Although most Elementalists, especially extremely powerful ones, can retain their youth, it was also easy to tell that they were old. Grey looked to be in his early twenties, but from his bone age, he could tell that Grey should be no older than forty.

One has to know that for someone like him, it took him almost two hundred years just to break through to the Sovereign Plane. And he has been in the Sovereign Plane for over five hundred years now and he only managed to achieve the Fifth stage.

‘He should be in the Eighth stage.’ The lady replied with some uncertainty. She had tried probing Grey earlier, but she could not sense the faintest trace of aura in his body. It was almost as if he was an ordinary human.

The elderly man gasped before slowly retreating. He had only taken two steps in the air when his entire body froze. He started shivering as he felt unimaginable pressure forcing him to the ground.

“I’m in a hurry, so I want to get this over with quickly.” Grey’s voice sounded in the elderly man’s ear.

Raising his head, he saw a calm Grey pointing a finger in his direction. It was a single finger, yet it felt like a sharp sword hanging over his neck. He was confident if he did not stop this brat, he might end up dead.

Gathering all his essence, he roared, his face turning bright red in an instant as he tried to use the momentum to break loose of whatever was restraining him… only… no matter how hard he tried, he realized that his feet would not budge.

The finger was drawing closer, yet he was unable to move. Veins popped up on his forehead and neck as he roared in full force. The outcome was once again, the same. He could not move.

‘Damn it! I’m going to die.’ Fear and panic finally set in.

“Leader! Save me!” He screamed for help at the peak of his voice.
