Nonetheless, there was a way around it, and that was to know the item’s history. For example, a new talisman naturally wouldn’t have an account of getting utilized by its owner. It would only have the history of getting created by its owner. So, as long as you know how to craft a talisman, then there’s a high chance you would complete the trial. The opposite was also true. You would fail if you were not a talisman maker.
Theo and John knew that Elliot had some way of knowing the effect of items. He was an otherworldly appraiser, one they had never seen before, so if he could check out the history of the items, it would make things easier for everyone.
“Listen to me; I can select the trial where you guys can perform your best. There will be a high chance of winning an item then. Just challenge the trial of the item I pick for you, alright?” Elliot said to his teammates.
“Go on, divine gambler.” John cheered for Elliot, acting like his little fangirl.
“Pipe down and let him focus.” Theo’s cold gaze landed on John, and his mouth immediately closed shut. With the devil that likes to teleport him to mountain ranges far, far away over his head, the young vampire dared not say a test. He didn’t have the guys to test his patience. A scaredy-cat it was.
“I see.”
With a single gaze, Elliot managed to read the history of all the items in his field of vision. If the items had a soul, they would’ve manifested before him and accused him of molesting them. It wasn’t wrong to say that they were stripped of all their clothes and privacy in front of his gaze. The poor items felt like helpless little lambs that could only let him take advantage of them.
“Grace, you can go challenge the trial of this spirit mark. It’s of water nature, and you only need to defeat a water snake to subdue it and become its owner.” Elliot said while pointing at a round tablet with a magical symbol on it. It was the spirit mark of a water snake, a spirit beast that belonged in the same family tree as Grace, albeit a lot weaker than her.
“I will do as you say, master.”
Elliot had many points, so he gave 50 to each of his pets to spend as they liked. Grace happily went ahead and challenged the trial. She trusted Elliot’s word as not only was he her master, but he also had no reasons to harm or make a fool out of her. Immediately after touching the spirit mark, a voice echoed in her head, telling her what Grace wanted to do, and she said she wanted to take the test. Then, her consciousness drifted away, and she found herself next to a lake.
“He can even do that?” Lucy was surprised. She wasn’t able to understand how Elliot managed to figure out what the trial would be like.
Was he some kind of prophet?
Could he see into the future?
“Not just that, he can also do a lot of fantastic stuff. Back then, he helped us win several bets in a single day, that too without a single loss.”
John laughed, remembering the time they made thousands of magic coins. Elliot, although he was standing far away from them and inspecting the items, he still managed to hear his word. He was a bit surprised that John still remembered it. For him, that event happened only a few months ago, but for John, it was more than several years.
“I never knew.” Lucy was just beginning to find out the different realities to Elliot and how great he was.
It was the birth of a new hard-core fan.
“Elliot indeed is amazing,” Theo added.
Elliot didn’t respond to their praise. Though, the tip of his ears turned red. What a way to make a grown-ass man embarrassed!
“Master, I feel relieved to see that someone like you also have such good friends.” The horrifying nightmare complimented Theo and John.
“Someone like me? What do you mean?” Elliot stared at it threateningly.
The little nightmare realized that it was being obnoxious, that it had lifted a rock only to smash itself! For a moment, it didn’t know what to say. Should he say the truth, that it thought of him as a homicidal maniac that loved to rip out the spines of the devil and eat them uncooked? Of course, that would get it on the gallows!
“I mean, master, you’re so great that mortals and beings like us can only look up to you. You’re so holy that I worship you as if you are my God. Your existence is unparalleled. Even ten thousand demonic gods can only lower their heads in front of you and silently submit to your will. That’s why I was surprised that even master have friends.”
It cooked up a massive pot of bullshit to save its hide.
Elliot was impressed with its shamelessness.
“Go ahead and challenge the trial of this wooden branch. You better win it for me, or I will cook you in a hotpot tonight.”
Elliot slapped it on the head, causing it to get hurled towards a white branch. It belonged to the tree of life, Elliot found out. It was a mythical existence that could absorb the positivity in the surroundings to grow bigger and bigger and even create fruits. Those fruits were one of the materials he needed to develop the mark.
The horrifying nightmare was a tree itself, so it was highly related to the branch and had the highest chance amongst all of them to acquire it.
“Baby, you choose this one.” Elliot flirted with Lucy, grabbing her soft hand and leading her to a round shield.
Elliot told her about the things she needed to do to pass the trial, taking a couple of minutes to do so.
