Volume 3 Chapter 19: The Birth of an S-Rank Adventurer

This chapter is updated by NovelFree.ml

Seemingly finding everyone freezing in surprise strange, Ness called out to Rikisetsu.

Naturally, she was quite proud of herself for treating Cain as the lord of the territory this time, and not as an adventurer as she had wrongly done earlier.

“Guild master! You’re making Baron Alec wait!”

Slaaaaaaaaaaaap

And Ness was whacked on the head by Rikisetsu.

“Owieeeeeeeee!”

While Ness held her head in pain, Rikisetsu sighed.

“Seriously, you. …sorry, Cain-dono. Your identity was revealed due to her.”

“Well, it can’t be helped…”

Cain looked around; everyone, starting from Airi, through the rest of the members of the Silverwolf’s Fang, other adventurers, and finally the staff who had been doing dismantling, had surprised faces.

Only Ness didn’t understand what was going on.

“Eh, eh, Cain-kun’s the Lord-sama!? ”

“Seriously…!?”

Was all the surprised Airi and Destra could manage to say.

Airi had only exclaimed in surprise, but the faces of the other members of the party, including Destra, blanched.

They had remembered how they had treated the head of a noble family, including back in the dungeon.

Rikisetsu gave up, and, standing in front of Cain, he said to all the people present.

“Just as you heard, Cain-sama here is the Lord-sama. However, he is also an adventurer at the same time. Cain-sama doesn’t really go out in public, so I’d like you to continue to treat him as an adventurer. ––It might be difficult, but… naturally, you can’t tell anyone else about this.”

Rikisetsu said, glancing at Cain, who nodded and stepped forward.

“Just as you heard, I’m Count Cain von Silford Drintor. I may be the lord here, but I’m also an adventurer, and am still a student in the royal capital. I often move in secret, so when I’m an adventurer, please feel free to treat me casually.”

Cain gave a huge smile, but everyone around him seemed apprehensive.

They had thought that he was just some ridiculously strong kid adventurer who could subjugate S-Rank monsters, but not only was he the lord of the very town they lived in, the person in question was also a higher-rank noble, specifically a count. It was way out of what they were expecting.

“A C-C-Count-sama… Cain-kun’s a Count-sama…”

Leaving the not quite comprehending Airi behind, Cain and Rikisetsu left as if they were escaping, and headed for the reception room.

When they entered, Alec and Letia were already waiting inside.

“What, Cain, wait no, Count Cain, you’re back? I heard you had entered a dungeon on your own from Darmeshia, so I thought I’d come talk to the guild master, but…”

“I just came back, Alec-nii-sama. There weren’t any problems… no, there’s a small problem actually…”

Hearing the events whispered to her by Rikisetsu, Letia facepalmed and sighed.

“I’ll deal with Ness later, but you say the materials were from an S-Rank Minotaur Org…”

Cain interrupted at Letia’s sigh.

“About that, I encountered a group of Earth Dragons on the fifteenth floor, so I have materials from over a hundred of them… and then…”

“Hang on a second Cain, an S-Rank monster, and then over a hundred A-Rank Earth Dragons!? Again… you really have no idea what self-restraint even is…”

Hearing Cain’s statement, Alec facepalmed, amazed.

“Actually, a dragon-like thing with a rocky shell also appeared after that, so I have that too…”

Rikisetsu and Letia gave unexpected reactions upon hearing that.

“Hang on a minute! Did that monster have a tortoise-like shell covered in rocks, its length over ten meters––”

Rikisetsu stopped the excited Letia with a gesture of his hand.

“Cain-sama, I think that was probably a Rock Dragon. Depending on size, they can even be Natural Disaster-Class, SSS-Rank monsters. Although, I’ve never seen one before… Did you, by any chance, defeat that too…”

Cain silently nodded when Rikisetsu looked at him. At that, even Rikisetsu seemed amazed.

Cain too, was surprised at not only the Rock Dragon’s size, but also that he had defeated an SSS-Rank monster in one hit.

Then, he heaved a sigh of relief that he hadn’t taken it out inside the guild.

“Cain-sama, you’re currently A-Rank, right? I’ll send an application to the royal capital for you to be made S-Rank immediately. If His Majesty verifies your abilities himself, there should be no problem. And obviously, we won’t be able to buy a Rock Dragon in this town. You’ll need to trade it in in the royal capital, so I’ll contact the headquarters about that as well.”

As if it had already been a decided fact, Letia left the room to prepare all the documents.

Giving up, Cain left the guild after having checked the current infrastructure and problems.

As he obviously couldn’t walk back home, he accompanied Alec back in his carriage.

“I knew you were strong, but… not SSS-Class, right? I’m surprised enough already that a Natural Disaster-Class monster was living in this territory.”

Cain listened intently to Alec’s idle grumbling while the carriage headed towards his mansion.

He had gone to the dungeon to release stress, but now things had gotten complicated, and after they returned to the mansion he had been warned by Alec to exercise more prudence, he then greeted everyone and then Transferred to his mansion in the royal capital slightly depressed.

And, a couple days later, Cain received summons to the royal castle.

Cain went to the royal castle by carriage, and went to the usual reception room. Eden, the guild master of the adventurers’ guild in the royal capital, was already there.

Seeing Cain, Eden smiled a little.

“Yo, Cain. Reports have already reached the royal capital. Regarding this case, it’ll probably be approved no problem.”

Cain sighed, thinking it was about what had happened in Drintor after all.

A little bit later, the king, Magna, Duke Eric and Dime also entered the room, in that order.

Cain and Eden stood up at once, and only sat back down once the king and the others had seated themselves.

“––Cain… you said you’d be more careful, and then you went and did it again! I thought my heart would stop beating when I read your S-Rank application form!”

Giving the seemingly exhausted king a sideways glance, Magna began reading the application form out loud.

“Mr. Cain, currently A-Rank, in the Rugar Ruins in the territory of Drintor, subjugated over one-hundred A-Rank Earth Dragon, an S-Rank Minotaur Org, and although I have not seen it, an SSS-Rank, Natural Disaster-Class Rock Dragon. However, as we in Drintor cannot exchange such a number of monsters, we hope that the royal capital’s guild or the royal castle will do so instead. Continuing on, Mr. Cain’s power is outside that of an A-Rank, and as such he should be promoted to S-Rank as fast as possible. – Drintor Adventurers’ Guild Branch Chief Rikisetsu”

Magna placed the piece of paper he had now finished reading down in front of Cain and sighed deeply.

“Count Cain, this application form’s contents are correct, yes?”

Cain simply nodded.

Hearing Magna read it out loud, the king made an amazed expression.

“You can turn all of it in to the country. There shouldn’t be anywhere where you could easily sell those materials off. Also, I approve your promotion to S-Rank. You should just go be an SSS-Rank with the Founder-sama, but things have an order to them, so first, S-Rank.”

Cain nodded in response to the king.

“Then, could you actually show us the thing.”

“Yes, all I need is a large space.”

Cain Transferred them all to the training grounds of the royal knights. The space earlier wasn’t enough for the monster.

The royal knights who had been training there were surprised by the sudden appearance of the king and other influential people in the country.

Dime told them what was going on, and they instantly made space for Cain.

“It should be fine with this much room, I think. Cain-dono, if you would.”

Standing in the very middle of the wide-open space, Cain took out the monster materials one after the other. The packs of Forest Monkeys and Forest Wolves, the Forest Kong, and then the Earth Dragons.

With just that much, three heaps of monsters were made.

Watching on from the surroundings, the royal knights became speechless at the sight. Naturally, everyone there, including the king, was making the same expressions.

“This last one’s a bit big, so please back off a little.”

The king and the other, who had been gazing at the monsters, backed away a number of meters and looked on.

Then, finally, Cain took out the Rock Dragon. It was more than twenty meters large, with its height also being near ten, and all it was missing was its head, which Cain put down next to it.

“And that’s all of them…”

Said Cain with a prim expression, but no-one else there could even start speaking.

The royal knights in the surroundings were having a whispered discussion.

“I knew Cain-sama was strong, but… that there is so not possible…”

“Even if he went to war with us on just his own, this country would lose… there’s no way we can win against him.”

“He has such monstrous strength, yet we challenged him to practise duels…”

Then, the stunned king also finally opened his mouth.

“Cain… I’ve had enough. Would you –– like to be the king in my place?”

At that, even Magna became speechless.

Told to become the king, Cain immediately replied.

“Absolutely not! I’m quite happy with my life as it is right now!!”

Magna patted his chest in relief.

“It’s like I’m dreaming. Magna, I’ll leave the rest to you.”

Making a completely exhausted face, the king left.

“Eric-dono, please, the king.”

Duke Eric nodded in response to Magna, and went off to support the king.

“Cain-dono, this many of them really is… this is way too unbelievable. No matter how much the country gains from this, we still need to pay you for it. Could you wait a bit on the assessment?”

Everyone was staring at the mountains of monsters, their mouths agape in amazement.

Just how many A-Rank adventurers, who were called high-rank ones already, would one need to hunt this many monsters? No, who would ever even believe that a young boy, not even a grown-up yet, had hunted this many monsters, which would take a lot of sacrifices for the country to achieve even if it brought out its full force, unscathed?

Cain replied to Magna, saying it was no big deal.

“I’ll have someone come assess these later. But, could you store the Rock Dragon again? There’s no way we can move that thing anywhere. I’ll ask you to take it out again later.”

“Understood. I’ll take it out again when you tell me, then.”

Answered Cain, touching the monster lightly, storing it back in his Item Box.

The Rock Dragon over twenty meters in size disappeared in a split second.

Seeing that, cheers came from the royal guards.

“I’ll have the knights carry the rest of the materials. Dime-dono, I’m counting on you.”

“Y-Yes…”

Dime nodded unhappily.

“Cain-dono, you can go home for today. I’ll send you a messenger later. Now, I’ll go check in on His Majesty as well.”

Said Magna, and returned to the castle. His retreating figure seemed just as exhausted as the king’s.

Now, only Cain and the royal knights were left there, and Dime spoke to Cain with an apologetic expression.

“Cain-dono, that many of them really is a bit too much… could you help us move them please?”

After that, Cain stored away all the monsters in his Item Box, and they decided to divide the materials up and store them separately so they wouldn’t spoil.

Exhausted by Cain’s actions and lack of self-restraint, the king and Magna both ended up sleeping for nearly two whole days, making all business come to a halt.

TN: tbh it’s also the king’s own fault for tying Cain to the country…

also, I’ve always wondered but can’t Cain store opponents weapons in his item box during a fight? I mean, they are inanimate objects after all, so he should be able to yoink their swords and stuff
