The summer holidays were over, and students were all making their way to school one after the other. Cain went to school by carriage as well. When he entered the classroom, the sight of his now-familiar classmates from class S discussing what they had done during the summer holidays greeted him.
Telestia and Silk were already there, and were chatting happily together.
“Ah, good morning, Cain-sama.”
“Morning, Cain-kun.”
“Teles, Silk, morning.”
Cain joined the two’s conversation.
“So, it’s finally today, huh. Earlier, everyone was going on about a welcoming party, but they refused, saying they didn’t want to stand out…”
“We’ll be meeting her for the first time today as well. I wonder what she’s like, this Imperial Princess-sama…”
The two of them continued talking, imagining what the imperial princess whom they would be meeting that day, was like.
The bell rang, signalling the start of class, and the teacher entered the room.
“Alright, everyone’s here. Good morning. We have a transfer student joining us in class S today. You can come in.”
As the teacher called out, the door slowly opened.
A beautiful girl with light blue hair stretching down to her waist and bangs hanging down to just above her eyebrows entered the room. She was around one-hundred-and-fifty centimeters tall, and was so beautiful that voices of delight came from the boys in the class..
The beautiful girl stood beside the teacher’s lectern, swept her gaze across the class, then bowed deeply.
“Everyone, nice to meet you. I’m a transfer student from the Baisas Empire, Liltana van Baisas. This is my second time in the Kingdom of Esfort, but my first time here in your royal capital. I hope we’ll all get along.”
Cheers came from the boys in the class.
“Wow, she’s an actual imperial princess…”
“She really is beautiful…”
The girls of the class, on the other hand, became grumpy at the cheers from the boys.
Liltana, however, didn’t seem to really care, and, after bowing again, having raised her head, she stared at Cain and smiled at him.
Seeing her smile at Cain, Telestia and Silk instantly tensed up.
“As I thought…”
Muttered Telestia quietly.
Not seeming to care all that much at being smiled at by Liltana, Cain continued to listen to her speak to them indifferently.
“As you heard, Lady Liltana is an imperial princess of the Baisas Empire, but status has no importance in this school. Liltana, you can sit… why not, you can sit behind Telestia. Please go sit down over there then, Liltana.”
“All right sir.”
Smiling at everyone, Liltana walked past them all to her seat and sat down.
She was sitting exactly diagonally behind from Cain.
“Well then, the first class will be home room. Everyone, go introduce yourselves. Cain! We’ll start with you.”
Doing as the teacher told him to, Cain stood up and turned towards Liltana.
“I’m Cain von Silford Drintor. The kingdom has assigned me the rank of count. Nice to meet you.”
Having finished his simple greeting, Cain quickly sat back down in his seat.
“I’m Telestia Tera Esfort, this country’s third princess. And I’m the fiancée of Cain-sama, who sits next to me. It is nice to meet you.”
Telestia greeted Liltana, emphasising the word ‘fiancée’. The moment she heard that, Liltana’s eyes widened a miniscule amount, perhaps in surprise.
Then next, Silk, the third best in the class, stood up.
“I’m Silk von Santana. I’m the second daughter of a duke in this kingdom. I’m also the fiancée of Cain-kun. Nice to meet you.”
The boys in the class whistled and booed at the two’s greetings. Liltana once again seemed a little surprised and glanced at Cain sullenly.
After that, the rest of the class introduced themselves, during which Liltana listened to them speak with a smile, as if trying to hide her bad mood from earlier.
By the time the nearly thirty more greetings were finished, first period had ended.
“Well then, home room’s over. We’ll be having normal lessons next time.”
After the teacher left the classroom, the boys instantly gathered around Liltana.
“Once again, nice to meet’cha! I’m a Viscount’s oldest son,––”
The girls watched the boys crowding around the beautiful girl from the surroundings with a sigh.
With such a turn of events, even Liltana seemed to be getting tired. Then, sitting in front of her, Telestia raised her voice.
“Everyone, if you keep talking at her all at once, Liltana-san won’t be able to understand anything, let alone answer.”
At Telestia’s words, the boys seemed to give up and returned to their seats. Even if they were in the academy, they still couldn’t oppose a princess’ words.
“Sorry about that, Liltana-san. It became quite crowded around you there…”
“Ummm, Telestia-san? Thank you…”
“Just call me Teles. It’s what all my friends call me anyway.”
“Then, please call me Lil.”
The two smiled at each other. Silk also joined them, and Cain listened to the three of them have a friendly conversation while propping up his head with his elbows on the desk.
“If the two of them get along, then it’ll be fine…”
Relieved, Cain smiled to himself.
Silk, noticing Liltana furtively glancing at Cain during the three’s conversation, asked her a question.
“Say, Lil… did Cain-kun catch your eye…?”
Liltana, her face bright red, tried to deny Silk.
“N-n-not in the least… I mean, we just met and all… and… he already has two fiancées, right? So I am a little curious as to what kind of person he is…”
She answered, her final words slightly ringing of loneliness. Liltana gripped a necklace hanging from her neck. Telestia, becoming curious about the necklace, asked her about it.
“That necklace, it looks simple, but it really suits you. It seems quite important to you…”
“…yeah, it was chosen for me by someone I met back when I was little…”
She answered while gazing cherishingly at a light blue stone attached to the tip of the necklace, then quickly glanced at Cain again.
After that, the three of them continued their conversation. Unsurprisingly, there was no-one with enough influence to join a conversation held by a princess, an imperial princess, and a duke’s daughter, so no-one did so.
The bell rang, the door opened, and the teacher entered the room.
“Well then, let’s start class––”
Then, the next class started. Liltana had already been given her textbooks, and as such, she earnestly paid attention to the class.
Lessons proceeded without incident, after which it was time for lunch. The school had a huge cafeteria where many students usually ate lunch. As for ones who brought their own lunches, they also usually ate in the cafeteria with their friends.
Cain had also gone to the cafeteria, and now, holding his tray with food on it, he was looking for an empty seat to sit down at. Noticing Telestia beckoning to him, he went over to her, and it turned out Liltana and Silk were also sitting there.
“Cain-sama, there’s an empty seat over here. Do come eat with us.”
“Thank you. Well then, please excuse me.”
Cain placed his tray down on the table and sat down in his seat.
“I wanted to deepen our friendship, so I invited Lil too.”
“Liltana-san, ask those two anything you want to know about the school, they’ll probably be able to help. Once again, nice to meet you.”
Liltana nodded while seeming a little lonely at Cain’s words.
They continued chatting while they ate. And while they couldn’t talk about how things were going in the empire, the conversation between the girls got quite lively as they talked about their hobbies and interests and what they usually did and so on.
“By the way Lil, didn’t you say you’ve been to Esfort once before? You said you didn’t come to the royal capital, so which town was it?”
At Telestia’s casual question, tension ran across Liltana’s face.
“Yeah… when I was little… we went to Lamesta…”
“Lamesta was… in the Gracia territory, right? Cain-kun’s father governs there… Wow, maybe you met with Cain-kun then?”
“I d-don’t… t-think… so…”
Cain also jumped in after Liltana’s barely audible answer.
“I’ve only been to Lamesta once too… I went with my father, but I trained with the knights there basically from dawn to dusk so––”
Cain began talking about things that happened years ago.
He talked about how even though he had been really young, he had trained with the knights all day, and how he had only gone to the town’s shopping district once while he was there.
Liltana listened to him talk a little expectantly, but as Cain finished speaking, she had a lonely look on her face.
“Cain-sama’s been training ever since he was that small. That’s why he’s so strong––”
“By the way, are you two fine with both being Cain-sama’s fiancées? Or are the two of you… Jealous of each other…”
Interrupting Telestia, Liltana asked a question.
“It’s not just two of us. Cain-sama has three fiancées as of now, but –– there’ll probably be one more?”
Liltana received an unexpectedly large shock at Silk’s statement.
Deciding on one’s fiancé(e) was normal in the empire as well, but those were all simply political marriages to deepen ties between two houses.
There was no-one, not even any of the imperial princes, who had been decided would marry three, no, four people before they even came of age.
“And I keep telling Cain-sama not to increase it any more than this.”
Explained Telestia, nodding in agreement with Silk.
Hearing the two’s words, Liltana sent a slightly harsh glance towards Cain.
“Even if you say that…”
Cain scratched his head, but didn’t refute her words.
“––is that so… I’m terribly sorry, I’ll be returning to the classroom ahead of you.”
Liltana stood up, and, picking up her tray, left them behind.
“Did I say something wrong…”
Cain muttered while gazing at Liltana’s retreating figure.
TN: welp, I got both her hair colour and her personality wrong; the jury’s still out on her relationship with her father though
also, it sounds like Cain met Liltana before he met Telestia and Silk, soooo… we all know where this is going
