Volume 5 Chapter 19: Lisabeth’s True Identity?

This chapter is updated by NovelFree.ml

Having been acting separate from them, Cain rejoined the students at the inn.

The teachers had not been expecting to attend the trial of their own student during the observation of the parliament at all either, not to mention him being attacked while on his trip in Ilstin, which wasn’t something to be taken lightly either. He was called over and had to explain to the teachers what had happened.

“–––– and that is all.”

Having finished his explanation from the very beginning of the case, Cain sipped his now slightly cold black tea to quench his thirst.

“––To think something like that would happen…”

Hearing his circumstances, the teachers heaved great sighs. It had been an incident that occurred due to the short-sightedness of the MP’s son, Ralph, but if the same had happened to someone other than Cain, it would not have ended with them being unharmed.

“Cain, you being an S-Rank adventurer is a secret from the students, but we teachers know. Nevertheless, this case will have to be discussed with the headmaster as soon as we return to the kingdom. Depending on the circumstances, we might even have to consider punishing you.”

“…I understand.”

While he was not at fault, the event had happened during their trip in Ilstin. As such, Cain was obediently going to accept come what may. Being released by the teachers, Cain sighed and headed back to his own room.

However, there were three expressionless people in front of his room.

“…You’re finally here. So then, let’s carefully talk about this, shall we?”

“Cain-kun, you will, of course, tell us all about it, right?”

And while Liltana couldn’t very well also join in, a silent pressure emanating from her chased Cain.

Beckoned to follow them, Cain was powerlessly sucked into the room.

◇◇◇

One day earlier.

Having made sure Silk had left the room, Cain finished changing and Transferred to Drintor.

Not long after he had Transferred to his office, there came a knock on the door.

Having been given permission, the door opened and a slightly tired-looking Darmeshia entered.

“Darmeshia, are you all right…? You seem exhausted… was there some problem?”

“Cain-sama… j-just what kind of person did you bring with you!”

Unlike normally, Darmeshia’s face was haggard. Cain tilted his head at the expression that was, for Darmeshia, unusual.

“Umm…? Is it Lisabeth? Was there some problem… Is she from a country hostile to Seto’s?”

“That’s not the problem. Her Imperial Highness Lisabeth is––”

A knock came on the door, as if to interrupt Darmeshia.

The one who opened the door and peeked in was Lula.

“Lisabeth-sama said she felt Cain-sama arriving…”

Just like Lula, Lisabeth was also peeking into the room.

“See, Cain was here after all.”

She entered the room with a smile on her face. Both Cain and Darmeshia heaved huge sighs.

Cain gestured for her to sit down on the sofa in the office, to which Lisabeth sat down in its very centre in a good mood.

Cain sat down opposite her, and Darmeshia started making tea.

“Cain, I like this mansion. The meals are satisfactory. I think I shall be staying here for the time being.”

Lisabeth said in a good mood.

“Yeah, I don’t mind that, but first and foremost, how did you get in that situation…?”

When Cain had first seen her, she was stuck inside a cage, wearing a magic-absorbing bracelet.

Moreover in the Republic of Ilstin, which was in a completely different location to the demon countries. It really was quite strange.

“I guess I must tell you then… Well, I am in your care so I have no choice…”

Bit by bit, Lisabeth explained the situation.

Growing tired of a life where she almost never left the mansion, she had run away from home with a number of magic stones that had been inside the mansion as travelling expenses.

Flying in the sky, she had crossed the ocean and arrived at the continent where humans lived, where she had exchanged the magic stones for money and then wandered around from city to city on her own.

Then, in one of the cities, when she was having a drinking contest with some adventurers, she had become so drunk she had undone her transformation, and the next thing she knew she was being sold to a slave merchant from the Republic of Ilstin.

Because she was able to use transfer magic, she had thought she would be able to escape whenever she wanted, but then they had put the magic-sealing bracelet on her.

Lisabeth explained that that was how she had gotten into that match in the arena.

“–– But thanks to you, Cain, I was saved. Naturally, I cannot really afford to lose my life, after all.”

Having finished her story, Lisabeth picked up the cup of tea in front of her. Then, she took a sip, and a deep breath.

“Then, you can go back to your own country whenever, right? It’s fine if you stay in this mansion for a bit, but wouldn’t it be better to go back to your own country eventually?”

“…I have other reasons for not wanting to return… Well, I have no choice. I shall be in your care for a while, then I shall return there.”

Lisabeth reluctantly nodded, making an unhappy face at having to go back to her own country.

After that, Cain asked her to make sure to take a bodyguard with her if she were to go into the city.

“Darmeshia, please.”

“…Yes, even with my weak powers, I will do my best.”

Once again, unusually for Darmeshia, he nodded with a slightly unwilling look on his face.

“But still, Cain. Be it this city or this mansion-castle, you rule over quite the splendid territory. And you are still young for a human are you not?”

“Yeah, although it was just a small town at first. Everyone helped, and that’s how it became this large of a place… And, don’t call it a castle. It’s a mansion. I just accidentally built it a little large.”

Cain reminisced about the time when he had just been made the lord of Drintor.

How all sorts of problems had occurred, but he had expanded the city while solving them all, and how, unlike in other cities, he had used his huge amount of money, cheat-like magical power, and knowledge from his previous life to build the city up all at once.

To the lords of other cities and towns, it had been unbelievable.

He had only been able to do all that due to being told by the king that he could do as he pleased.

However, no-one, not the king nor Magna had imagined Drintor would become that big.

“Mhm… So Cain has that much resourcefulness and ability.”

Lisabeth continued muttering a monologue under her breath after that, then nodded, as if having convinced herself.

“For the time being, you can stay here. But, we’re planning on leaving Ilstin in a couple of days, and then we’re going to be returning here.”

“That is right, you, unusually for a human, can use transfer magic. It would not be strange if you were a superior demon, but this is my first time meeting a human that can use it.”

“Well, stuff happened.”

There was no way he could explain to her that he had come up with it and ‘made’ it himself, so Cain answered vaguely.

After that, they continued chatting for a while, then it was time for them to say their goodbyes.

Cain asked Darmeshia to take care of things, then Transferred back to the inn he was staying at and went to bed.

“Oh right, I was right in the middle of asking Darmeshia about Lisabeth. I guess I’ll just ask next time then…”

Not caring about Darmeshia’s anxiety, Cain went to sleep, as the next day would be when he would be going to the parliament.
