Volume 5 Chapter 23: The Prisoner Transport Vehicle

This chapter is updated by NovelFree.ml

After Baldo’s arrest, the soldiers seemed to give up and climbed the stairs one at a time as per instructions.

Because it would be a bother if he committed suicide, Baldo was quickly tied up and gagged.

The knights Tifana had brought with her arrested the soldiers one after the other.

“They seem to be doing fine here. Claude-san, let’s go back over there.”

“Yeah. Well, I doubt they can get out of there though…”

“I will also go to check. My name is reasonably well-known even abroad, after all.”

While Cain was indeed a count and had connections to powerful people in the Kingdom of Esfort, but to people who didn’t know about Drintor, he was of still dismissible importance.

However, Tifana had been serving as the country’s commander of the royal knights for a long time now, and would be recognised even by foreigners in just one glance.

Due to her overwhelming power and beauty, she had had many marriage proposals, and while she had refused them all, she had now announced her engagement all of a sudden.

It was needless to say that rumours had spread throughout all the countries in the blink of an eye.

“Yeah, it’ll help if you come too.”

“That’s right! I have to be of use to Cain sometimes, otherwise I’ll get left behind by Her Highness and Lady Silk.”

Tifana said, nodding to herself with her arms crossed and a huge smile on her face, to which Claude smiled bitterly.

When one spoke of Tifana, there were no adventurers from Esfort who didn’t know her either.

And she, when she was with Cain, was just like any other woman in love anywhere.

Claude’s mental image collapsed in his head.

However, now was not the time to think about that. Claude pulled himself together and called out to Cain.

“Cain, let’s go already.”

At Claude’s prompting, the three of them headed over to the large hole in the ground on the Ilstin side.

“Sorry we kept you waiting. We got reinforcements.”

Lina and the others sighed in relief at Claude’s words, but then froze the instant they saw the woman standing behind Cain: Tifana.

“…No way, to think the commander of the royal knights, the strongest person in Esfort would appear…”

The others all nodded at Lina’s words, still surprised.

Looking down into the hole, Cain saw that they had still not given up, and were holding their weapons and magic at the ready to use any time.

Then, Tifana stood in a place visible to the attackers.

“I’m Tifana von Leebert, the commander of the Esfortean royal knights. To the attackers: throw your weapons away and surrender immediately. If you do not, I will see this as a declaration of war from the Republic of Ilstin to the Kingdom of Esfort.”

Tifana’s words had an extraordinary effect.

The attackers’ complexions instantly worsened. That was just how much Tifana’s name had made its way around even foreign countries.

Even the ringleader, Malph, had a disbelieving look on his face.

For him, his son Ralph had pulled the trigger, and he had suddenly been stripped of his position and assets, making him devise this plan to regain them all.

Receiving advice from Marquis Corgino, they had had this plan to trap their mutual nemesis, Cain, but before he had known it, the commander of the royal knights had appeared, who was now speaking of war between Ilstin and Esfort.

If that happened, it wouldn’t end with him just being stripped of his position as MP and a fine. It was plain to see that he and his whole family would be given the death sentence.

Malph powerlessly sank to his knees in despair, but the others there could not afford to do that.

Both the private soldiers and members of the Dark Guild had listened to Malph’s wheedling, and were present due to that.

They had thought they would get huge rewards, but they had been trapped in a huge hole, unable to do anything. Obviously, if the plan failed, the promise for a reward would also be broken.

However, they were trapped in a huge hole with no means to escape.

“Shit. Why is this…”

The guild master of the Dark Guild said those throwaway lines, the quickly looked around him, only to see the other attackers all collapsing onto the ground with loud thuds.

“What the––”

And with those final words, the Dark Guild’s guild master lost his consciousness.

◇◇◇

“Cain, what the heck did you do…?”

Claude asked Cain, who had said ‘Alright, success!’ after confirming that all of the people down in the hole had collapsed.

Milly and Nina also had bewildered expressions.

“It didn’t seem like they would be giving up, so I changed the percentage of oxygen there with magic.”

“O-Ohkseejen…? What’s that…?”

None of them could understand what Cain had just said.

He had made it all the way to the second year of high school in his previous life. He knew that if he changed the ratio of the components of air by decreasing oxygen and increasing carbon dioxide, they would become unconscious. And as there was the perfect hole right there in front of him, he thought he would put that knowledge into practice.

He hadn’t been sure whether this world actually had air, as he couldn’t see it. However, thinking that while he didn’t have any concrete proof, he was still breathing in and out, he had decided to try it.

And, as expected, the attackers had become unconscious.

“Hmmm, just think of it as me having thinned the air they were breathing…”

““““…….””””

“Well, there was this huge hole here, so it was quite easy.”

Everyone there became speechless at Cain’s words.

Simply put, he was saying that he could make anyone anywhere unconscious whenever he wanted.

They all realised that if they were hostile against him, they would lose without being able to do anything.

Claude swallowed and decided to himself to never ever oppose Cain.

“Ah, they’ll regain consciousness in a little while, so could we please capture them all before that?”

Even Tifana was surprised by Cain’s words. Even for her, it was an unbelievable sight.

“R-right. I’ll go call the knights over then.”

Said Tifana, sprinting off like the wind.

“Let’s return them in the meantime…”

Said Cain, placing his hands on the ground and letting his magical power flow into it, making the bottom of the hole rise up until it was just a flat bit of ground again.

“Now they can all be tied up easily.”

Unable to react properly to Cain’s words, everyone else just nodded.

While that was happening, twenty knights had come running up to them.

Cain took out some rope that would be used to tie the attackers up from his Item Box and cut it up into pieces with more usable lengths.

An attack from hundreds of people. There was no way the rope the knights who had come to help had brought with them would be enough.

“Sorry to have made you wait… wait, where’s that huge hole!?”

“I undid it. It would get in the way of tying all of them up, wouldn’t it?”

“Well… it would.”

Tifana seemed a little unconvinced, but she gave out instructions to the knights, who they started tying up the attackers one after the other.

The capture of the attackers had ended in less than an hour.

“So then, what do we do with all of them…”

There were more than five-hundred attackers, all tied up.

It wasn’t an amount of people that could be moved around that easily.

“If we could just carry them to the fort…”

Muttered Tifana to herself, when Cain clapped his hands as if he had just remembered something.

“It’d be nice if we could take them all at once… so then.”

Cain pulled out another prisoner transport vehicle from his Item Box.

“There won’t be enough seats, but if we squash them all in together, they should fit.”

Cain had prepared two prisoner transport vehicles, just in case.

As the attackers had already been repelled, the teachers and students got off the prisoner transport vehicle.

Then, their faces all paled when they saw how many attackers there were.

If Cain hadn’t been there––

Was what they might have been thinking.

Cain smiled bitterly at the words of gratitude that came from the students one after the other.

(No, if I hadn’t been here, there wouldn’t have been an attack in the first place… I think…)

The knights loaded the attackers into the prisoner transport vehicles one after the other, but as they obviously couldn’t fit over five-hundred people inside, Cain pulled out a cage from his Item Box.

“Please put the rest of them in here.”

“Cain… I get the cage, but how are we supposed to carry it…?”

Cain smiled at Tifana’s words.

“Well, obviously,––––”

At the words that followed, even Tifana became speechless.
