Volume 6 Chapter 13: Betrayal

This chapter is updated by NovelFree.ml

A stage for the speech to the public was built in front of the castle in the two days.

Cain was told that in this country, the emperor himself stood before the citizens and spoke to them.

However, as the Demon Emperor was currently undergoing medical treatment, he couldn’t meet with anyone, so the crown prince would explain instead of him.

Also, he would be announcing Lisabeth’s return and the fact that they wouldn’t be going to war with the humans at the same time.

“If Your Highness explains to the citizens, they will surely be convinced.”

“It would be nice if nothing were to happen, but… I am worried about one thing. The other Demon Kings should have been vocally opposed to this, yet they’re silent…”

Cain was concerned about the other Demon Kings having been quiet the past two days when they had been so pro-war.

He had summoned Darmeshia and instructed him to gather information inside the castle while he himself acted out the model guest.

However, Darmeshia had told him that even he couldn’t hide all signs of himself from other demons, especially not from Demon Kings, and as such, no information about their secret talks made its way to Cain.

So although he was worried, he attended the ceremony.

“It’s about time. If we could please get going.”

Cain left the castle, following the servant who had come to call on him, and outside, there was a huge crowd near the stage.

The gathering and speech from the imperial family and the Demon Kings seemed popular after all, and the residents of the imperial capital had gathered together to go see it.

While that was going on, Cain sat down in a chair on the stage.

Sitting on either side of a stand in the middle were the four Demon Kings on one side and Cain and Lisabeth next to each other on the other.

“You don’t have to be so nervous. It’s a peaceful ceremony.”

Muttered Lisabeth while gazing at the crowd gathering in front of their eyes.

Amidst cheers rising from the crowd, Logsia stood up from his seat.

Seeing Logsia, the cheers became even louder, but he raised one of his hands and they stopped their clamour.

“I am crown prince Logsia. This is quite the sudden proclamation, so I am grateful that so many residents have gathered here. Firstly, I would like to report that Lisabeth has returned safely.”

In sync with Logsia’s words, Lisabeth stood up, stepped forward, and waved at the crowd.

As she did that, the cheers became the loudest they had yet.

Lisabeth smiled at them, then returned to her seat, where she looked at Cain, smiling.

“I am quite the popular person, am I not.”

“Yeah, I can see how happy they all are.”

As they were the one country that coordinated all the demons, the imperial family was quite popular.

Then, Logsia resumed his speech.

“It is true that Lisabeth went through various hardships in the countries of the humans. However, she returned safely. For a while, I thought about declaring war upon the humans. But––”

“Crush the nations that hurt Her Highness!”

“““That’s right, that’s right!!”””

Animosity towards the humans was, as expected, high. That’s just how big a thing Lisabeth having been captured was.

“But, it is also true that Lisabeth was saved by a human, and returned here safely thanks to that human. And, having talked to the humans’ representative, I thought we should make peace with the humans. So, from now on––”

“Please wait!”

Denis, one of the Demon Kings, called out.

Logsia glared at Denis, but he ignored him and went to stand beside Logsia.

“His Highness says that, but do you really want to forgive the humans!? In the human countries, Her Highness Lisabeth –– was made into a slave and was to be killed! You want to forgive such humans!? I will not! No matter who says what, I will not forgive them!”

“That’s right! Get rid of the humans!”

Many cheers of agreement rose from the crowd.

Logsia smiled bitterly at those cheers, then glared at Denis.

“…Denis, what is the meaning of this…?”

Ignoring Logsia’s words and glare, Denis continued.

“The three of us Demon Kings agree on starting a war, but His Highness is turning tail against the humans like this! We’re demons, there’s no way we’d lose to the humans! Isn’t that right!?”

The crowd responded to Denis’ question with cheers.

Seto tried to stand up in anger, but was held down by Ignis and Agus from either side.

“Guh… You!”

“Hmph, what goes around comes around, Seto-dono. It would have been better if you had switched to our side as well…”

Still being held down, Seto looked at Cain.

However, if Cain were to stop the Demon Kings there and then, the crowd would instantly swing towards starting the war.

He stayed sitting, his fist gripped tightly. Lisabeth gently put her hand on top of his fist.

They exchanged glances, and Lisabeth slowly nodded and stood up.

Standing beside Logsia, she raised her right hand up high.

“Everyone, listen to my words. There were indeed terrible people in the countries of humans. However, I also met good people. With all that, we of the imperial family decided not to go to war. No matter what Demon King Denis-dono says, we will not go to war. That is why we even have a representative of the humans here with us. I shall introduce him. This is Cain-dono, visiting from the human countries.”

Lisabeth glanced at Cain.

Cain also understood that they must overcome the situation.

He stood up and stood next to Lisabeth.

“I am Cain von Silford, and I have come from the human nation of the Kingdom of Esfort. And, as representative of the humans,––”

Cain began making a speech to prevent the war from happening.
