Volume 6 Chapter 18: Lisabeth’s Expectations

This chapter is updated by NovelFree.ml

As he would be officially thanked again the next day, Cain returned to his guest room.

“I wonder if I’ve fulfilled my duty now. It was quite short, but full of events…”

He had neutralised three Demon Kings, two of which he had even killed in order to suppress a rebellion. Whether one thought it was full of events or that he had overdone it, at the end of the day, the lives of the two members of the imperial family were of the most importance.

That was exactly why Cain, who had saved them both from the rebelling Demon Kings, had received such loud cheers from the demon populace.

The next day, he was relaxing in his room.

Called by and following after a servant, he was invited to the reception room they had had the meeting in the day before.

Logsia and Lisabeth were sitting next to each other inside.

“Sorry to have kept you waiting. So, why did you call me here?”

Cain sat down on a sofa opposite the two and asked about the reason he was called in, at which Logsia smiled.

“First, I would like to announce that we have officially decided to pursue peace with humans. I would simultaneously like to set up an embassy in the Kingdom of Esfort. Our countries need to communicate with each other, after all.”

Cain knew that other countries also had embassies, so he nodded along. Liltana had also been given a mansion in the nobles’ district when she had transferred from the Empire. It wasn’t all that strange.

Moreover, since higher-rank demons could use transfer magic, they could easily return back to their home country in an instant, so it wasn’t a big deal.

“I don’t think there will be any problems with that. Although, the official location will only be decided once I return to the Kingdom…”

“That’s all right. And as for an ambassador…”

Logsia looked at Lisabeth with a slightly puzzled expression.

“I will be the ambassador, of course. We can’t leave such an important role to others.”

Lisabeth said with a smile.

“You say that, but I will not listen. We will, of course, be despatching multiple people. But first, you’ll also have to make arrangements, won’t you? And in regards to the communication, could I have Lisa accompany you?”

Unable to refuse the deeply bowing Logsia, Cain reluctantly accepted.

Once the selection of personnel was over, Cain would take them to Esfort via transfer magic, but in order to decide on what mansion they would be given to move to, Cain would be going ahead, returning to Esfort.

“Are you ready?”

Cain had been given a letter to deliver by Logsia and packed Lisabeth’s luggage in his Item Box, and now they would be returning to Esfort.

He would be taking Lisabeth with him to the royal castle for an audience with the king.

“Well then, big brother, I’m going.”

Holding Lisabeth’s hand, Cain used transfer magic.

Logsia stared at the afterimages of Cain and Lisabeth, then sat down on the sofa.

“Lisa’s… serious about this.”

He muttered, left alone in the room.

◇◇◇

Having returned to his mansion after a long time, Cain told Lisabeth to sit down on the office’s sofa and wait, then left the room.

He had left his mansion in the royal capital to Koran and Silvia. But, as Darmeshia usually went to give them advice when he had the time, Cain wasn’t especially worried.

He walked down the corridor towards Koran’s office.

He knocked on the door, and after a voice came in response, he opened the door and went inside.

“Cain-sama, welcome home. I apologise for not having welcomed you.”

“It’s fine, I came back with transfer magic after all. Anyway, I have a favour to ask you…”

Cain explained to Koran how he had established an alliance with the demon countries, and whether he could go tell the royal castle that they wanted to establish an embassy in the royal capital.

“Then I shall go to the royal castle to ask them about it immediately. You told me about this as soon as you returned, so just relax here for a while. I have to arrange the preparation of a meal too.”

“Yeah, thank you.”

Quickly finishing organising his documents, Koran left the room to tell the royal castle.

Cain also returned to his room.

The audience would be held three days later.

If it had just been a meeting with Cain, it could have happened immediately, but as there was a messenger from a foreign country, even if it was from the demons, an official audience was necessary, in order for which one had to gather all the nobles living in the royal capital, which took a couple of days.

As a margrave, Cain also received an official letter of invitation, and thus would be attending as well.

For the three days until the audience, Lisabeth had received an invitation to the royal castle as part of a warm reception, but she had refused, saying she would stay in Cain’s mansion.

“Being in this mansion is the very best after all…”

Having used transfer magic to go to Drintor, Cain and Lisabeth were not relaxing in their rooms, but in Cain’s office.

“They even prepared a room for you in the royal castle, are you really okay with being here?”

“Being with you is more fun than that stiff life in a royal castle. And the food is delicious here too.”

While Cain wasn’t in Drintor, with all the free time on her hands, Lisabeth walked around the city, eating here and there. Just in case, he had Darmeshia follow her, but in the report Cain received from him in the evening, she hadn’t caused any trouble.

“Once the audience is over, you’ll be given a mansion, and then you’ll have to do your work as ambassador, you know.”

Lisabeth frowned and made a displeased face at the word ‘work’, but she knew that she had the important task of making peace between humans and demons.

Lisabeth was well aware that this wasn’t just a game.

However, she hadn’t told Cain about the thing she held most important about this all.

Logsia had confirmed it with her many a time, but she never once wavered in her conviction about it.

“I am looking forward to that audience…”

Muttered Lisabeth while giving Cain, who was working, a sideways glance.
