Volume 7 Chapter 16: Reunion

This chapter is updated by NovelFree.ml

While there were two attacks, they all made it safely to the holy capital.

Bishop Harnam, who had not thought there would be such relentless plots to attack him, had had an apologetic face the whole way.

“Everyone, thank you very much. Quite a lot happened, but the most important thing is that everyone is unscathed. Please relax until we go back. The inn you will be staying at is guarded by the knights.”

“No no, Bishop-sama. This is exactly why we A- and B-Ranks were your bodyguards, so don’t worry about it.”

Claude answered sincerely, Lina behind him sighing in exasperation. However, excluding Cain, Claude and Lina were the two highest-ranked adventurers there, and since the party’s leader was Claude, he was the one who answered as their representative.

After this, after he had changed clothes, Cain would continue being Harnam’s bodyguard in the main temple. However, since he would attract attention in his adventurers’ clothes, he would be borrowing a deacon’s robes.

He was going to accompany Bishop Harnam as his pawn. There was also their planned meeting with Hinata he would attend as Bishop Harnam’s bodyguard.

Following the guidance of the temple knights, Claude and the others headed to their inn.

Looking forward to finally being able to meet her after so long, Cain followed Bishop Harnam into the main temple.

Cain and Bishop Harnam were guided to a room by a deacon working in the main temple. The room, while simplistic, was moderately large, and there was a separate room for meetings and a large and small bedroom for the two of them. The larger one was for bishops who had come to the main temple, while the other, smaller one was for their servants.

Bishop Harnam offered the big room to Cain, but Cain politely refused and retired to the smaller room.

“Just two more hours… It’s really been a long time… I hope she’s doing fine.”

Looking forward to finally meeting her in a couple of hours, Cain returned to the living room.

He had wanted to relax with Bishop Harnam, but visitors to the Bishop just would not stop coming. Since Cain was disguised as a servant, he was busy making tea for the guests.

Each time he put down a cup of tea in front of a guest, Bishop Harnam made an apologetic face, but Cain just did his job with a smile.

For Bishop Harnam, it was a terrible thing to have Cain, who was a higher-ranking noble in the Kingdom of Esfort and an Apostle of the gods, a position even higher than the pope, brew tea for him.

All the guests were only there to talk about the pope election. Some of the guests asked him which cardinal he would be voting for straightforwardly, while others spoke in vague terms, implying their question.

Bishop Harnam answered vaguely each time.

Once it was just the two of them, Bishop Harnam sat back on the sofa and sighed from exhaustion.

“That really seemed tough… The pope elections really are pretty important…”

“It is as you say. It would be much easier if you decided and just said ‘You’re the next pope’, Cain-sama, but… I wouldn’t mind you becoming pope either, Cain-sama. I’ll back you with all my power if you want to.”

Cain chuckled at Bishop Harnam’s words. Naturally, he had no intentions of becoming the top of Marineford as the pope.

“But I have my duties in the Kingdom of Esfort.”

“That’s true. And His Majesty would also scold you.”

As the two of them were laughing, there came a knock on the door, and a deacon entered the room.

“The time for your visit to the Saint-sama has come, so I shall guide you there.”

“Understood. Let us go then.”

Guided by the deacon, Cain followed Bishop Harnam. They walked down a number of hallways until they stopped in front of a particularly ornate door.

The deacon who had guided them there knocked. A voice giving permission to enter came from inside, and the door slowly opened.

“Bishop-sama, please go inside.”

“Mhm, thank you. Alright.”

Bishop Harnam and Cain entered the room.

Hinata was sitting alone on a sofa in the middle of a wide room, and there were two sisters standing in a corner.

“Welcome. It has been a long time, Bishop Harnam-sama. Please do sit down.”

Bishop Harnam sat down, and Cain went and stood behind him. The sisters prepared tea, which they then placed in front of Hinata and Bishop Harnam.

Naturally, Cain got none.

“Could you two please step out for a bit?”

““Yes.””

The sisters bowed, then left the room.

Once the door had closed and only the three of them were left, Hinata slowly stood up, and approached Cain, one step at a time.

Her cheeks were red, and her eyes were so full of tears they threatened to overflow any moment.

“Cain-sama…”

Hinata stood in front of Cain, then hugged him, nuzzling her face into his chest.

“I’ve been wanting to see you for such a long, long time, Cain-sama. Every day I prayed to the gods, waiting to finally meet you again.”

Unable to escape as her hands were wrapped around his back, Cain smiled.

“Hinata, it has really been a long time. I’m happy you’re doing better than I thought you would be. I got quite worried after your letter.”

He slowly hugged Hinata, gently patting her back.

Sitting on the couch, Bishop Harnam broke out in a smile as he looked at them.
