“We have a training ground. There should be fine, right?”
Randal took the lead, still fuming, and they all headed to the square that was presumably the training ground next to the mansion.
Walking next to Cain, Hagnes had a worried look on his face.
“Cain-dono, will you be okay? Randal-dono is one of the strongest in this country…”
“Don’t worry. It’ll be over quickly.”
Cain followed Randal, smiling.
Dozens of beastmen with fake swords were right in the midst of training. The sound of their swords striking each other rang out across the training ground
Noticing Randal, the soldiers all suspended their practice fights, stopping training, and watched him.
“Sorry about coming when you’re training. I and the envoy from Esfort will now be conducting a mock battle. Could you please give us room in the centre.”
The soldiers moved to the edges of the training ground with expectant faces.
Perhaps it was unusual for Randal to do mock battles, because the soldiers were guessing about the circumstances in whispers.
“It’s been a long time since we last got to see Randal-sama do training. Against a human too… and he’s just a kid too. This is pretty one-sided.”
“True, I feel sorry for that kid… Did he do something to Randal-sama…”
With enough room for them having opened up, Cain and Randal stood facing each other.
Randal threw one of two practice swords to Cain.
Easily catching it by the hilt, Cain lightly swung it around, getting a feel for it.
“Mhm, it’s fine. Although… it’s not like I need it.”
Cain threw the sword away.
“What!?”
“Hey, what’s this supposed to be? Aren’t they going to do a mock battle…?”
The soldiers around them questioned Cain’s actions. However, Cain just looked at Randal, his smile not wavering.
“I don’t need a sword for a mock battle. This is all I need.”
Holding out his right hand, Cain held up his index finger.
“What did you… You might be another country’s noble, but if you mock me so much, don’t go thinking this’ll end so easily!”
“Why of course. Perhaps you will… no you’ll accept me and understand if you see my power.”
Cain had an inhuman Status. If he really wanted to, he could destroy the capital with just one spell. However, all that was currently necessary for Cain was the power to convince the beastmen.
Showing equivalent power to Randal would be of no use though. He wanted to show them an overwhelming amount of power, and go to the front lines.
“Don’t go whining afterwards. This might be a mock battle, but your bones will easily break once I hit you. With my power, you might even die.”
“…Yeah sure whatever, let’s just start already.”
Cain signalled for Randal to come at him by beckoning with his right index finger.
Holding his sword at the ready, Randal ran through the ten meters separating them in an instant and swung his sword horizontally.
However, Cain, who had been right in front of him, wasn’t there anymore.
Randal hurriedly looked left and right around him, but he couldn’t find Cain.
“I’m over here.”
Cain called out to Randal, having moved behind him with his overwhelming Status.
Dodging the sword swung at him as Randal turned around, Cain closed the gap between them, jumped lightly, and flicked Randal’s forehead with his finger.
From just that, Randal was blown backwards.
He flew several meters before finally rolling to a halt near the soldiers around them.
“““““……”””””
The soldiers who had been watching on from the surroundings were stunned by the completely unimaginable result.
Cain slowly walked up to, then immediately crouched down next to the unconscious Randal and cast healing magic on him.
The red swelling on his forehead disappeared quickly, and Randal slowly opened his eyes, groaning.
The first thing that came into view was a smiling Cain crouching down next to him.
“……Was that a dream…?”
“No, that was my power. Do you understand now?”
“…Yeah.”
Cain slowly stood up and held his hand out to Randal.
Randal took the smiling Cain’s hand with a bitter smile of his own, and stood up.
All the onlookers in the surroundings had gone silent due to the unexpected development, but Randal looked over all of them, then raised his right fist high in the air.
“This is our helper who has come to Kermes from Esfort! You’ve seen just how strong our reinforcements are! Now, we’ll hit back at those Baisasean bastards!”
“““““Wooo!!!”””””
“Margrave Silford, once again, nice to meet you. Please forgive my rude conduct earlier.”
Happier at having had his power recognized than even Randal bowing to him, Cain smiled and gave a light nod.
“Likewise. I don’t know much about this country, so I look forward to working with you.”
They shook hands, both of Randal’s large hands enveloping Cain’s own.
Loud cheers came from the soldiers who had been watching.
Back in the reception room, the dangerous atmosphere from earlier had vanished into thin air, and their conversation proceeded smoothly.
Gandal and Hagnes had also watched Cain and Randal’s fight, and seemed to be relieved.
“Then, we’ll be leaving this town tomorrow at the latest and heading to the royal capital.”
“…Hey, can I come along? I’d like to help too.”
As the son of the town’s lord, Randal had to protect the port town, and while it might not have shown during the fight earlier, Randal had seen Cain’s power and was confident the town would not be attacked.
