Just a day ago, the daughters of Tsuitsui were adamant about not getting married to Adam. No matter how much Reika tried to explain them, they just wouldn’t listen.Nobody wanted a bald, ugly, blind, and mute man with severe scars all over his body as their life partner.
But today...
"Lord Ao! My Goodness!"
"Kyaa! Lord Ao! So handsome!"
"Oh, he looked at me!"
"No, he looked at me!"
"Lord Ao! Ohh, that smile!"
A group of women stood behind a tree in the distance, calling out to Adam. They’d never seen a man so handsome before.
So what if he was blind? He was still the perfect man in their eyes.
When they first saw him, naturally, they couldn’t identify him. They thought that a new guest had visited the Verdant Palace. But when they realized that this divinely handsome man was none other than Ao, they were dumbfounded.
Overnight, their aversion had turned to infatuation. And now... they couldn’t stop thinking about him.
Sitting inside a gazebo and sipping on sake, Adam turned to the group of women in the distance and waved at them. "Auhh."
Immediately, a few of them lost consciousness and had to be carried away by the maids.
"What... what kind of black magic is this?!" Goro had never been so embarrassed.
He had never seen his younger sisters act this way either. This was completely unlike them! The Venom Dragon rose to his feet, then turned towards his siblings.
"Don’t you have other things to do?!" He reprimanded. "Scramble away this instance!"
While Goro was scolding his siblings, Reika had a dazed look in her eyes and a slight blush on her fair cheeks as she looked at Adam, who was gracefully sipping on sake.
Unlike the rest of her sisters, however, she could clearly handle herself... albeit a little bit.
"I didn’t expect you to be so... young, Brother Ao," Reika softly said, tucking in a few strands of hair behind her ear.
Adam turned to her with an arched brow, then smiled. "Auhh."
Goro took his seat again, causing Reika to awkwardly cough and adjust her expression.
"There has been some movement with the state of war in our lands," he said with a solemn look on his face.
"I spoke with the Qingyun Bang disciple stationed in Yongdu the other day," he continued. "Apparently, several more Arakuro Clan Magi have met their ends at the hands of the Heavenly Demon."
Hearing that name, Adam’s lips curled into a wicked grin.
How interesting.
"The Arakuro Clan had dispatched Mana Vortex Magi as well as a large number of Mana Liquefaction Magi. But the outcome was the same. In fact, I’d say it was far more gruesome than any of the previous times."
Goro paused for a moment, then said with a grim look on his face.
"Reports say the Heavenly Demon butchered everyone sent after him, then impaled their bodies on wooden pikes as a statement. That barbaric act earned him admiration from the Unorthodox Faction, but it has enraged the Arakuro Clan all the more."
"What of the Qinglin Zhai?" Reika asked with a grim look on her face. "Have they responded?"
"No, not yet." Goro shook his head. "But after the Heavenly Demon’s latest act of terror, I’m certain the Arakuro Clan would now send even more people after him. And since he’s hiding in the territory of the Qinglin Zhai, those bandits will be forced to engage in war as well."
A dark frown shadowed Reika’s beautiful face as she murmured, "Once the Qinglin Zhai enters the fray, so will the Teisha Tang, with whom we share a portion of our borders. When that happens... our clan will also have to officially enter the war."
At this point, she couldn’t help but inwardly curse Tensei Arakuro for starting it all.
"To think that a foolish action of a single man could spark the flames for a Great War..."
Goro smiled ruefully. "That’s how all wars are started, my dear sister."
"In anywhere between a few months to a year, we will have to participate in this war," Reika said with a grim look on her face.
She rose to her feet and prepared to leave. "I’m going to summon the merchants’ union and discuss the supply chain with them. It is imperative for the future war efforts."
Suddenly, she turned to Adam and asked with a gentle smile, "Brother Ao, will you be fighting alongside us?"
"Auhh." Adam nodded with a faint smile.
"Wonderful!" Reika’s smile seemed to bloom like the flowers in spring. She cast a long glance at Adam, then finally took her leave.
Goro watched this interaction play out with a borderline horrified look on his face.
"Don’t tell me..."
"Auhh?" Adam arched an eyebrow.
Goro quickly shook his head. "Nothing! Nothing at all. Anyway, let’s go train. I’ll explain to you a few things about Teisha Tang on our way to the training hall."
***
Martial Pavilion, Inner City.
Standing inside the central training ring, Goro cracked his shoulder joints as he explained:
"Tiesha Tang is a network of mercenaries-for-hire, renowned for their martial skills. They’re efficient and morally flexible. In fact, sometimes they even secretly carry out missions for some of the organizations in the Arcane Alliance."
He put on his gauntlets that covered his entire arms. He then continued:
"Generally, they’d support the side that pays them the most, but considering this is going to be a Great War, they’re going to ally with the Unorthodox Faction since that is where they’ll receive the most benefits.
"The Yongchan Province shares borders with both Tiesha Tang and the Qinglin Zhai. Needless to say, our relationship with them is beyond bad. Anyway, I’ll have someone send you a comprehensive report on both these organizations."
He noticed that Adam was browsing the weapons rack, so he couldn’t help but ask, "That’s right, Brother, I’ve never seen you wield a weapon before. Do you have a preference?"
Adam arrived before a pair of Grade 3 gauntlets. However, compared to Goro’s, these only covered the hands and forearms.
"Auhh!" He grinned as he donned them.
Goro burst into a loud peal of laughter. "That’s how it should be! A true man fights with his fists!"
Both Magi got ready to spar.
"You ready?" Goro asked with a grin, his eyes blazing with fighting intent.
With one hand behind his back and the other gesturing at Goro to come at him, Adam raised his chin and muttered a simple word, "Auhh."
And then...
A loud explosion rang through the training ring as their fists collided!
