Arakuro Clan, Taketsu City.Within the clan’s grand palace, a similar council had been convened by Kurozane Arakuro, the clan’s Patriarch.
However, the atmosphere within the hall was dark and gloomy as the elders of the clan went back and forth, trying to come up with a solution to their current problem.
"So we’ve been sending lambs to the slaughter all this while!"
"Why did none of us ever stop to think that this man could be a Mana Core Rank? Slaying a hundred men outside Ichigane... of course, it was a damned Mana Core Magus!"
"What’s done is done. We need to look to the future and come up with strategies to deal with the vile Heavenly Demon!"
"I never expected the man to best Wei Motian! He was one of the strongest Magi of the Unorthodox Faction, yet from the reports it seems that he was slain by the Heavenly Demon in under half an hour!"
"Those tales could be exaggerated! I heard that the Heavenly Demon nearly died fighting Wei Motian."
"Whatever the case. The Heavenly Demon now rules over an army of Magi. I even heard that he impaled those extremely loyal to Wei Motian, then made the rest of the Qinglin Zhai submit to him."
"A true characteristic of the Unorthodox Faction! This man has no regard for human life. To impale a human being? How sick does a man have to be to commit such atrocities?"
"Let’s talk about how we’re going to deal with the Heavenly Demon and his cult. For one, we must stop sending any more of our children to deal with him. Now that he has an army under him, a full-scale war is imminent!"
"Silence."
The Patriarch’s cold voice echoed in the hall, causing everyone to shudder in response. The hall grew quiet, and all the elders turned toward the man sitting at the head of the table.
Needless to say, the Patriarch had a dark look on his face. It would have been a different matter if the clan had offended any rogue Mana Core Magus, but the person they had ended up offending had an entire army at his beck and call now.
Worse yet, the Arakuro Clan could not back down now after having so many of its children butchered by the Heavenly Demon.
Kurozane Arakuro turned to Lady Chiyo, who was sitting by his side, and said in a flat voice, "Did you not see that this man was a Mana Core Magus?"
Lady Chiyo lowered her head in shame. "Apologies, Patriarch. Masahiro was so certain that Tensei’s murderer was a Mana Vortex Magus that I did not bother confirming. I trusted his words."
She paused for a moment, then added in a low voice, "In hindsight, it does make sense now. I was unable to divine anything about the Heavenly Demon on my first try. It turns out... that happened because he was far more powerful than me."
Kurozane’s brows creased together, and he harrumphed in displeasure. He couldn’t help but coldly mutter under his breath, "That damned son of mine. Did I teach him nothing? How could he be so blind?"
The Patriarch had always been cold and stoic, a man of few words. Yet today, his anger was displayed for all to see. And it was justified. After all, because of Tensei Arakuro’s actions, now the entire clan had been pitted against the Heavenly Demon and his army.
"What do we know about the Heavenly Demon so far?" He asked in a cold voice. "How does a man like him suddenly appear out of nowhere, and we know nothing about him? What have our spies been doing?"
"Reporting to the Patriarch," an elder responded as he cupped his fists.
"According to the intel reports, the Heavenly Demon is an expert martial artist and seems to have majored in the School of Invocation. Judging by how he was able to reorganize the Qinglin Zhai in under a week suggests that he has experience in governance.
"However, anything about his past is clouded in fog. Even Lady Chiyo wasn’t able to gather much information because of the difference in strength between the two. But what we can be certain of is that the Heavenly Demon isn’t any weaker than the five other leaders of the Unorthodox Faction."
Kurozane Arakuro nodded ever so slightly, a dark look on his face.
"To be able to legitimize his new order in under a week means that his strength has been acknowledged by the other leaders of the Unorthodox Faction. He is not weak."
He paused for a moment, then turned to another elder, "Have there been any movements among his forces?"
"Reporting to Patriarch!" The elder respectfully cupped his fists. "The Cult seems not to be focusing on their borders with the Tsuitsui Clan. It would appear..."
The elder gulped subconsciously before continuing, "It would appear that they’re focusing on attacking us."
Kurozane Arakuro’s expression darkened. He was hoping that the Tsuitsui Clan would share some of the weight of war, but the worst possible outcome had come to pass.
The Heavenly Demon Divine Cult had ignored the Tsuitsui Clan and instead chosen to focus their manpower toward the Arakuro Clan.
The winds of fate had begun to sweep over the mystical realms of Yen-Lu, and soon... the lands would overflow with blood.
The Patriarch sighed heavily, his eyes flashing with dark emotions. "Very well. Now that it has come to this..."
His eyes narrowed, and he coldly muttered, "We will annihilate the Heavenly Demon and his Cult."
Just a moment later, the doors of the hall swung open and a messenger entered. He looked utterly pale, and his eyes gleamed with terror.
In other circumstances, the people inside the hall would have severely reprimanded the messenger. After all, a highly important and confidential meeting was going on.
But considering the warring climate in the region, they had a foreboding feeling upon seeing the messenger barge inside.
"R-reporting to the Patriarch a-and the esteemed Elders," the messenger cupped his fists as his eyes turned red and teary.
He inhaled deeply, then relayed the message he’d just heard:
"The Heavenly Demon Divine Cult has attacked two of our border outposts! T-they... they have impaled all our Magi stationed there!"
The Heavenly Demon had declared war!!
