Chapter 1362: Army’s Morale

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Beyond the Wall, the atmosphere was grim.

At the beginning of the battle, thousands of Magi had gathered. As the days passed by, their numbers dwindled exponentially compared to the Tsuitsui army.

Now, only two thousand or so Magi remained. These people had not joined the battles in the previous days. They were strong, healthy, and fully prepared for the war that would take place the next day.

This had always been Han Xun’s strategy. He planned to always have well-rested and prepared soldiers at his command at all times. It didn’t matter that he’d have to send all of them to their deaths every day.

As he walked through the camp with his hands clasped calmly behind his back, he observed that these two thousand soldiers, who hadn’t yet tasted the ongoing battle, were eager to go into battle the following day.

Noticing this, his eyes flashed with ridicule. Fools, he thought.

How come all of you are so eager to die? Hopeless bastards like you need money, booze, and women as rewards, and you’ll gladly give away your worthless lives.

Yin Caishen, the Head of Intelligence for Tiesha Tang’s army, stepped forward and whispered, "Boss, the Tsuitsui’s siege equipment has been taken care of by the thousand-man army you sent earlier today."

Han Xun sneered. "Those siege towers wouldn’t have done a thing for Goro and his army."

It was true. The moment the siege towers came in contact with the Wall, the runic magic engraved across it would thoroughly render all of them useless.

Because of the runic formation inscribed on the Wall, no army had been able to conquer it for years.

Zhou Liang, the Vice General, stepped forward and spoke with dark glee, "Boss, it has been confirmed that the enemy Vice General has died in today’s battle!"

Han Xun’s brow arched in surprise. "I think... his name was Yorihiko? He and Goro were quite close, if I recall correctly. It is wonderful that we were able to slay that bastard today."

"Indeed, Boss!" Zhou Liang grinned. "His death must have dealt a crushing blow to Goro!"

"Hmm." Han Xun stroked his chin, a satisfied smile forming on his lips. "How many men is he left with?"

"Less than five hundred, Boss," Yin Caishen respectfully answered.

"Good! Very Good!" Han Xun’s smile turned into a wide grin.

If he had wanted, he could have ended the battle as soon as possible. Given the vast number of men Han Xun had under his control, it was safe to say that he could have concluded this battle in just a couple of days.

But he wanted to draw it out just so he could drag his arch nemesis through the pits of despair. Han Xun was a very vindictive man who would go to great lengths to make his enemy suffer.

And that was exactly what he was planning to do with Goro. He would kill all his brothers in front of his very eyes, then he would torture him, and then finally grant him the peace of death.

Just thinking of the atrocities he was going to commit, Han Xun felt extremely satisfied in his heart.

Right at that moment, a messenger silently approached Yin Caishen and whispered something in his ear. A moment later, he was slightly taken aback. He then quickly approached Han Xun and said:

"Boss, I have some interesting news."

Han Xun snapped out of his murderous thoughts. "What is it?"

"The man who killed Yorihiko is alive," Yin Caishen said with a light smile. "He’s currently getting treated by the Herbalist as we speak."

Han Xun was slightly taken aback. He turned around and faced the man. "He actually survived today’s battle?"

Yin Caishen’s lips twitched.

"...Boss, there are a handful of survivors from today’s battle. Of course, all of them are Mana Vortex Magi. The rest weren’t so lucky."

Surviving today’s battle of blood and venom was actually something quite impossible. Yet, a handful of warriors from the Tiesha Tang had survived! What’s more, the one to slay Yorihiko was among them.

The Vice General, Zhou Liang, chimed in, "Boss, I believe it will be good for the army’s morale if you take some time to visit the survivors."

Han Xun hummed in acknowledgment.

"Very well. Take me to them."

***

The Herbalists of the Tiesha Tang weren’t buried in work at the moment. After all, there were hardly any patients they had to cure.

Around three thousand men had left for battle earlier today, but only less than ten of them had returned.

Among them was a brave warrior named Fang Huolin. He was someone who was hired as a mercenary by Tiesha Tang specifically for this war. He was also the man who had slain the Vice General of the Tsuitsui Army, Yorihiko Tsuitsui.

However, this brave warrior was grievously injured in today’s battle. The Tsuitsui Clan’s poison had really done a number on him.

Most of his body, including his arms and head, was bandaged because his flesh had been corroded by poison. There was also a great degree of internal damage. However, despite it all, he still remained ready for tomorrow’s war.

"Quickly fix me up!" he roared at the elderly Herbalist applying ointment to his skin. "I wish to be alive to see the famous Venom Dragon die at the hands of the Tiesha Tang!"

"B-but..." An elderly man glanced at Fang Huolin’s bandaged head. "How will you see when your eyes have been corroded by their poison?"

"Hah?" Fang Huolin rose to his feet. "You trying to be funny with me, old man? Wanna die?"

"Eeek!" The Herbalist collapsed on his knees. "F-forgive me, my lord! Forgive me!"

"Hahaha!" A booming voice echoed through that part of the camp.

Han Xun and his entourage finally arrived before Fang Huolin. The General sized him up with an amused grin and said, "Beaten to an inch of your life, yet still full of fighting spirit!"

Recognizing that voice, Fang Yuolin immediately stiffened. He then quickly cupped his fists and bowed. "Greetings, Boss! I-it is an honor to finally meet you!"

"Hmm." Han Xun stroked his chin. "At ease, soldier."

After a brief pause, he asked, "So you were the one to slay Yorihiko Tsuitsui?"

Fang Huolin remained silent for a moment before answering:

"...I just got lucky, Boss."

Han Xun deeply looked at the man, then nodded. "Very well. I shall reward you with a Grade 3 Artifact. Visit Zhou Liang after you’ve been treated. He will see to it. And if you survive this battle, I will formally induct you into the Tiesha Tang."

With that said, Han Xun turned around and left, not bothering to spend a moment more with the survivors of today’s battle. He had found Fang Huolin to be a useful man, and that is why he cared enough to talk to him in the first place.

Fang Huloin still remained standing, facing the direction in which Han Xun and his top officers had departed.

A long time later, underneath the blood-soaked bandages...

His lips slowly curled into a crazed grin.
