Chapter 1403: First Light

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Adam’s eyes snapped open as he jolted awake.

Unbeknownst to him, tears were streaming down his face as he lay on the ground. The first thing to enter his vision was the ceiling of the dark cave, inscribed with runes he had carved not long ago.

However, his mind wasn’t on what he saw at the moment, but what he saw in the past.

He slowly sat up, his mind still not quite registering what he had witnessed. He had just seen every second of his past with startling clarity. Even the memories that had turned foggy with the passage of time became clear to him as he walked across that mysterious river.

In fact, he even witnessed the events that he had no recollection of.

Adam remained seated in that position for a long time. Tears continued to trickle down his face as he recalled the day of his birth and how happy his parents were on that day.

His lips slowly curled into a gentle smile.

And then...

His smile froze.

Adam’s hands trembled.

He could see his hands trembling!

"I... I can see?" He murmured, his voice laced with disbelief.

He lowered his head and gazed at his naked body.

"The transplant succeeded?!" He blurted out, "I’m alive!!"

Adam’s heart was filled with joy as he shot to his feet. He then carefully began examining himself.

His body had changed completely. He now stood at six feet tall, his build slender yet well-proportioned, giving him an appearance that was both refined and quietly imposing.

Although his physique looked slim and graceful, like that of a dancer, boundless strength coursed through him, befitting a tyrant.

His skin was fair and unblemished, smooth like that of a newborn. The scars that littered his body were now nowhere to be seen. His body carried an unnatural clarity, as though it had been freshly formed.

Raven-black hair fell over his shoulders, shining with a deep, lustrous sheen that caught light even in dim surroundings. In contrast, his beard was thick and untamed, framing his youthful face with a raw, almost feral edge.

The structure of his face was sharp and precise, as if it had been carved by a master sculptor’s chisel rather than shaped by nature.

His eyes, however, were the most unsettling change. Darker than they had ever been before, they seemed to absorb light rather than reflect it. His black pupils carried depth far beyond mere color, hinting at something profound and otherworldly.

"I can’t believe this!" Adam was astonished.

He had seen the changes his body had gone through during the transformation process. In the river, he had witnessed how he was broken and reforged over and over again as tendrils danced under his skin.

But now...

His dark eyes flashed with a solemn light, and he quickly spread his senses inward.

The changes within his body ran far deeper than his outer appearance.

His blood had become robust and resilient, circulating with a steadiness that carried far more vitality than before. Each pulse felt powerful, capable of sustaining extreme strain without faltering.

Adam’s bones and organs were reinforced at a fundamental level. They were denser, tougher, and far more resistant to damage, yet without losing flexibility or balance.

Surprisingly, he had even ascended to the fourth cycle of physical augmentation, his strength now equivalent—maybe even slightly greater—than a Rank 4 Paladin!

Moreover, his mana channels had widened to a great degree, allowing energy to flow through them with minimal resistance. The increase was not subtle. His mana reserves had increased significantly.

And despite the recent transformation, his mana remained surprisingly pure.

"How is this possible?" he murmured in shock.

Adam had expected there to be some level of corruption in his mana, but it was stable, refined, and free of turbulence. It looked and felt the same as it did before.

The tendrils that had once writhed beneath his flesh had completely vanished, leaving no trace behind. More importantly, there was no sign of corruption anywhere in his body or spirit.

No lingering influence. No invasive presence. Nothing.

Adam stood there stunned, thinking whether he had severely underestimated the miraculous Five Elemental Codex or the human race’s adaptability.

He gulped subconsciously and closed his eyes.

When he opened them again, he was inside his spirit sea.

This mystical realm inside of him remained pure and beautiful. The skies were clear, and the sea was tranquil. In the depths, the Eternal Soul Lotus calmly rested with Valerian peacefully sleeping amid its petals.

"Am I... dreaming?" Adam was beyond shocked.

Suddenly, a frown formed on his face.

Within his mind, something remained...

Fragments of otherworldly knowledge lay embedded deep in his consciousness. Strangely enough, they did not present themselves as clear memories or spells or techniques, but as abstract concepts without language.

When he tried to focus on them, they slipped away.

Adam knew their origin.

The knowledge came from the Beyond!

Its nature was alien, structured by laws different than anything he knew. Without the proper context or understanding, his mind could not interpret it.

He could sense that it held immense significance, but for now, it remained sealed behind layers of incomprehension.

Adam opened his eyes and sighed.

"Of course, there would be a price to pay," he murmured.

He didn’t know the full extent to which the transformation had changed him. That was something he’d only get to know in the future.

But for now, it remained unknown.

He wore his tattered clothes and donned his cloak. He cast one final glance at the cave before destroying it and removing any trace of his presence.

Adam jumped down to the valley floor and walked towards the skull tomb. The Dark Valley was still the same, except there was no corruption permeating the air. The laws of space and time also seemed to have stabilized.

The raven-haired youth arrived at the cavern beneath the tomb and destroyed all traces of battle.

Then, he continued his journey past the tomb.

With each step, the oppressive remnants of distortion faded completely. The air grew lighter and cleaner.

Adam left the Dark Valley in silence, his heart filled with hope.

When he finally emerged beyond the rocky boundary, the land opened up into a wide stretch of shoreline.

The sound of waves drifted into his ears.

They rolled steadily against the sand, carrying a calm he had almost forgotten. The scent of salt filled the air as he stepped onto the beach.

His feet came to a gradual halt as he beheld the breathtaking vista before him.

In the distance, the horizon began to glow.

The first light of summer emerged from beyond the ocean, dyeing the morning sky in hues of gold and amber. Light danced across the surface of the waters.

Adam’s heart was filled with boundless emotions, and he found himself on the verge of tears.

His lips curled into a happy smile.

In that moment, he felt as if all the pain, the madness, and the suffering had been worth it.

He had endured a lifetime of darkness.

And now, for the first time in a long, long time, he got to witness the sun rise.

It was beautiful.
