Chapter 1478 Kenny's Value

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

The space opened into a vast underground complex.

The ceiling was so high that Kenny couldn't see the top at first. Rows of stone balconies perched on the walls.

Bridges and walkways crisscrossed in the open air above. Small platforms for raising and lowering people moved without cables.

The gray-tiled floor below was crowded. Acolytes and Agents walked in tight groups. Clerks sat behind long counters stacked with ledgers and crystal tablets. Messengers hurried past, carrying sealed documents.

Gray and white magical lights floated near the ceiling. Birds made of paper fluttered across the open space, going in and out of the balconies. Runes were carved into pillars thicker than trees. Some glowed faintly, while others were damp and worn, like they'd been there for centuries.

Doors lined the far walls, each marked with symbols instead of names. Corridors branched off in every direction. Some descended deeper underground. Others curved upward into tunnels cut clean through the bedrock. And on the far side of the grand hall, the space was occupied by a giant statue.

Kenny stood frozen, his mouth slightly agape. He was genuinely surprised at the bizarre and magical architecture of this vast underground space.

He hadn't realized how large the Brotherhood really was. How organized… how old…

But more than that, he was quite taken aback at the number of people occupying the floor before him. He didn't even think there were so many spies in Springdale.

No, this is the headquarters, he thought.

So these people must be from all across the continent!

The scenery felt unreal.

"Come on." Lebu's voice snapped him out of his stupor.

Kenny snapped back to his senses and quickly followed behind the man. He then awkwardly said:

"Magus Potts, can you put away my outer robe in your storage artifact? I'm… I'm feeling very hot here. I, uh, don't have a storage pouch, so... Or maybe, I'm just nervous… haha."

Lebu turned to him, his gaze softening. "Give it to me."

"Thanks." Kenny offered a faint smile as he folded his outer robe and gave it to the Agent, who then put it away inside his artifact.

"Where are we going?" he asked.

Lebu guided the youth across the busy floor, towards one of the many levitating platforms. "We're going to meet my direct superior. He's a Warden. If your intel is legit… you might even be granted an audience before a Councilor."

"O-okay," Kenny murmured.

His eyes narrowed, and he extended his Sphere of Resonance outward, letting it spread across the entire floor and wash over the bustling crowd.

Fortune be with me, he thought to himself as he scanned the crowd for certain people he couldn't get out of his head.

He hoped at least one of them was here.

If not… he'd have to switch to Plan B.

The pair moved closer to the platform, and Kenny's face couldn't help but darken. Plan B was going to be much harder to pull off than his main one. That was why he desperately hoped his main plan would work.

As it turned out… fortune really was on his side today.

Just when he thought he wouldn't find the people he was looking for, his eyes lit up.

Found you!

Kenny cast a brief glance at Lebu, who was walking just a few steps ahead of him. He then disappeared amid the packed crowd.

A few moments later, Kenny appeared beside the person he had locked onto earlier.

"Magus Devon, please act normal. I have something very important to tell you," Kenny murmured with his head lowered as he walked beside the blond middle-aged man.

Devon was one of the people who had trained Kenny during his first five years in the Brotherhood.

He was also someone whose name Kenny had seen in one of the dossiers he had found in Marquis van Booth's study!

"Kenny?" Magus Devon couldn't help but frown. "What's the—"

"I don't have enough time," Kenny interrupted him. "My life is in danger. I've taken an immense risk to come here and meet you."

Devon instantly became quiet and solemn.

Kenny continued, "I have found evidence about the corruption within our organization. Cult spies infiltrating the Brotherhood, human trafficking, transporting children across the borders up north, and names of high-ranking Magi who have been compromised!"

The more Devon heard Kenny speak, the more his eyes widened.

Kenny grabbed Devon's arm and squeezed it lightly. "You must help me, sir! Please get my message across to the right people! I don't have much time! I'll be waiting at Warehouse 23A by the riverfront! Please, I beg you!"

Suddenly, he looked in a certain direction, his eyes widening in disbelief.

That action was enough for Devon to turn and follow his gaze. But there was nothing unusual there, just a crowd of people going about their business.

When Devon turned back around to question Kenny, he found that the youth had vanished.

He halted in his footsteps and frantically looked around.

Where did he go?! He thought in alarm.

Damn it, I must quickly inform them of this development!

Devon changed course and hurried off toward another part of the headquarters.

At the same time, in another part of the main floor, Lebu was also frantically searching for Kenny.

Just moments ago, the youth had been right behind him. When Lebu turned around, Kenny had already disappeared.

Lebu couldn't help but assume the worst.

Damn it, did they get to him? He wondered, his heart gripped by dread.

Does that mean… what Kenny claimed was actually the truth?!

He stayed rooted on the spot, torn between immediately searching for Kenny himself or reporting what had just happened to his superiors and asking for their help to find the boy.

Kenny had abruptly vanished, and Lebu didn't think a mere Mana Foundation Magus was capable of simply disappearing under his protection.

According to him… someone must have kidnapped Kenny right under his nose!

Lebu gritted his teeth and finally made his decision.

He rushed toward the floating platform, intending to inform his superiors and using their help to find Kenny. The youth's value just increased several-fold in the eyes of both sides of the Brotherhood.

Lebu was certain that the enemies wouldn't immediately kill the youth because of how much he knew.

Please hold on until help arrives!

Kenny paced back and forth inside the dark warehouse by the riverfront.

Moonlight leaked in through the broken windows. Dust drifted into the air. The atmosphere was empty and silent, except for the distant sound of water outside.

He made sure to display just enough fear and panic through his body language.

Suddenly, he heard the sound of footsteps.

Kenny flinched in terror and turned towards the source of the sound. A moment later, Devon stepped into view from the doorway.

"Magus Devon!" Kenny breathed a sigh of relief and rushed towards him. "Thank goodness, you're here! Did you consider what I told you earlier? You believe me, right?"

Devon smiled coldly. "You did well informing me, Kenny."

Kenny blurted out. "So you do believe me!"

"Of course." Devon nodded. "That's why we are here."

The dusk-skinned youth was ecstatic at first, but soon he couldn't help but frown.

He gulped subconsciously and murmured, "Wh-what do you mean we—"

His words caught in his throat when a shadowy figure appeared behind him and pulled a black cloth over his head.

A moment later, a sharp chop to the back of his neck knocked him 'unconscious'.

The time had come…

To meet the traitors of the Brotherhood.
