Trade Ward.

In the living room of an unassuming two-story manor, Krummor sat on the couch, studying his long-time friend with a complicated look on his face.

"Honestly," he began, rubbing his beard slowly. "I'm still having trouble believing this."

Berger sat across from him, sipping on freshly-brewed jasmine tea. He glanced at Krummor and smiled faintly.

"Me becoming a Mana Core Magus?" He asked with an arched brow. "Or me returning to the Brotherhood?"

Krummor blinked. "Both!"

He leaned back in his seat and sighed. "How did you even reach this arcane realm? Last I saw you, you wanted to retire in the countryside and live out the rest of your days from a herb store. Just what the hell happened?"

Berger set the cup on the table, his eyes flashing with a reminiscent light as his thoughts drifted to a certain raven-haired youth wearing a pointed hat.

"...A lot has happened," he murmured. "Sometimes, I can't believe it myself." His expression then turned a little solemn, and he continued, "As for returning to the Brotherhood... six months ago, I suddenly received four official letters from four Councilors, each requesting that I reclaim my rightful seat on the Council of Dawn."

He paused, then added in a grim voice, "So I'd like to ask you, old friend, just what the hell happened?"

The fact that Berger was returning to the Brotherhood was just as surprising to him as it was to everyone else. He still didn't know the full details of what had transpired six months ago.

"Too much!" Krummor sighed heavily. "Too much has happened."

He scanned his surroundings briefly and asked. "Where is Blackie?"

"Looking for someone," Berger replied succinctly.

"Alright." The dwarf nodded. "Can you cast a barrier? Councilors Jidu and Yates would tell you this eventually, but I was present at the discussion as well, so I might as well tell you now and bring you up to speed."

A small black puppy sat at the edge of a rooftop, his tail swaying lazily as he looked out over the sprawling sea of buildings across Trade Ward.

Rows of tightly packed rooftops stretched into the distance, thin streams of smoke curling from chimneys as families prepared their evening meals.

Night was settling in, and one by one, street lamps flickered to life below while windows across the ward began to glow. Rooms lit up as people returned home from the long day.

The puppy simply sat there, watching the city come alive under the falling dusk.

A slight frown found its way to Blackie's adorable face as he sniffed the air again, his nose twitching in confusion.

I can't catch a whiff of Adam, he wondered.

Could it be... he isn't here?

He tilted his head slightly.

Hmm, Berger was certain he'd be here. After all, more than six years ago, he had sent both him and Anna a letter, saying he was in Amberfall and would soon be heading further into the mainland.

So where is he now?

That had been the last time Adam had written to either of them.

After that, things had simply become too busy. Still, Berger took some comfort in knowing Adam was still alive. After all, the youth's Soulmark Lantern remained in his possession.

Blackie sighed and murmured, "Forget it. I guess I'll pay a visit to her brother instead."

He then leapt off the building and disappeared into the darkness.

Ignisra Kingdom Embassy, High Ward.

Inside the opulent bedroom of the manor, warm lantern light reflected off the marble floors and the velvet curtains that draped the tall glass doors opening into a private balcony. Every detail inside the room spoke of wealth and privilege.

On the balcony, Prince Fireborne, wearing loose silk robes, leaned back in his chair and slowly sipped from a crystal wine glass as he looked out over the sprawling city below.

Beyond the sea of glowing windows and lit streets, the ever-warm Anumay River wound through the city like a ribbon of light. Its surface reflected the lamps and buildings as night settled over the city.

If it were more than six and a half years ago, he would have preferred to spend evenings like this very differently, surrounded by courtesans, drowning himself in wine, and indulging freely in every form of pleasure offered to him.

But a close brush with death, followed by the promise he had made to his wife afterward, had changed him.

Since then, Marlow had made a conscious effort to become a better man, taking each day as another chance to live up to that promise and be grateful for

the life he had.

Ever since that eventful day, he had never quite managed to forget the powerful Magus who wandered the world as a travel writer.

Who was Nilrem?

Why had the Magus saved him that day?

Why had this person looked at him with such strange warmth and familiarity?

As though... they had known each other long before that encounter? These were the questions that circled Marlow's mind endlessly. He didn't know whether their paths would ever cross again, but if they did, he was certain of one thing... he would definitely ask the eccentric Magus everything that had haunted his thoughts ever since.

"You look just like her."

An unfamiliar voice suddenly echoed in Marlow's ears, causing him to freeze in

terror.

The Prince slowly turned his head, only to see a black puppy sitting on the marble railing and curiously gazing at him.

Marlow's pupils constricted, and his heart started to beat faster. He didn't even realize when this beast had arrived right next to him. Had the puppy intended to harm him, he would have been able to do absolutely nothing about it.

He didn't believe the puppy posed no threat at all. Or else it wouldn't have

snuck up on him so casually.

As fear clouded Marlow's mind, he suddenly frowned. He repeated the puppy's

words in his mind, his eyes slowly widening.

"You..." He gulped in surprise. "Who are you?"

You look just like her.

These were words Marlow heard countless times as a child. People often

mistook him and his sister for twins, even though he was several years older

than her.

So when this mysterious puppy said those exact same words to him, his heart couldn't help but begin to stir with hope.

Blackie yawned lazily, then casually said, "I have a letter for you."

The wine glass in his hand dropped to the floor and shattered, but Marlow paid

it no heed. He continued to stare wide-eyed at the puppy.

"I-is it..." he murmured. "Is it from..."

"Yes," said the puppy.

"It's from Anna."
