Adam exhaled a light sigh.He saw fog form with each breath and felt the temperature around him drop slightly. Noticing this, he couldn't help but frown a little.
How could there be such a change in the environment just from the mere presence of a Magus?
And Adam was certain that the Winter Lord hadn't cast his magic yet.
He tilted his head as he blinked under the Faceless Mask. He glanced at the white-haired Magus and said, "You're strange."
The Winter Lord did not reply. But his aura grew cold, and the temperature in the surroundings dropped further.
"Hmm." Adam recalled something he had learned from the memories of the great experts. "Are you someone with an Innate Physique?"
The Winter Lord's pupils constricted. For the first time, a faint trace of emotion surfaced in his eyes.
His lord and savior had once spoken of this to him. This was the formal terminology for his condition, so he knew that what the masked man had said was true.
"Innate Physique," he murmured with a thoughtful look on his face.
He studied the masked man intently, now with renewed interest. "Who are you, Magus?"
An Innate Physique referred to a rare inborn bodily constitution that naturally resonated with a specific aspect of mana.
Unlike learned affinities or trained techniques, this disposition existed from birth and shaped how mana flowed through the body.
Magi with Innate Physiques absorb, refine, and wield certain types of magic with far greater ease and efficiency than ordinary spellcasters. Their bodies acted as natural conduits, often granting accelerated growth, heightened control, or unique manifestations tied to their aligned aspect.
Innate Physiques were neither inherently good nor bad, but they were highly sought after and also feared.
While they offered immense potential, they also carried risks such as instability, imbalance, or attracting the attention of powerful factions.
The only other person that Adam knew who possessed an Innate Physique was Edward, and his was ranked among the highest tiers ever recorded, if not the highest.
Most Innate Physiques resonated with a specific aspect of mana, such as fire, ice, lightning, or even the more intangible concepts.
Edward's was different.
His physique resonated with mana itself, unfiltered and unrestricted. Because of that, mana flowed through him as naturally as breathing. It did not resist him, strain his body, or require alignment. It answered him.
That was why he was known as the Child of Mana.
Adam couldn't help but sigh as he lowered his hood. He ran a hand through his raven-black hair and said, "To think there would be two of you in this world. Well, it's not that surprising, I guess. Ours is a high-tier world in the Outer Universe. But two is still kind of a surprise."
The more the Winter Lord listened to Adam speak, the more he frowned. "Two… of us?" he murmured. "Outer Universe?"
His gaze sharpened, and he repeated, "Reveal your identity—"
Adam abruptly appeared before the white-haired Magus. No teleportation spell, just pure speed. He didn't give the man time to finish his words. Instead, he struck with a brutal knee kick to the face.
Bam!
The Winter Lord was hurled into the distance, slamming into the ground several times before rolling for dozens of meters and finally coming to a stop.
Meanwhile, Adam had a light frown on his face. That attack of his didn't quite connect. He lowered his gaze and noticed a layer of frost creeping over his knee.
His frown deepened.
He blocked it at the last moment, he thought.
And he cast the spell with just the bare minimum hand seals!
He turned his attention back to the Winter Lord and saw that the Magus had already risen to his feet. It was as if Adam's earlier attack had done absolutely nothing to him.
"You're strong," said the Winter Lord. "You might just be the most physically strong Magus I have faced."
"Is that so?" Adam laughed. "Well, consider me flattered."
Before the last of his words faded into the wind, he had already appeared before the Elder once again. This time, he delivered a left upper cut to the ribs.
Adam honed in his Sphere of Resonance, instantly noticing the Winter Lord effortlessly wield a simple hand seal and casting an ice barrier over the right side of his body.
Seeing this, Adam's eyes narrowed, and he quickly changed his attack. Using the left uppercut as a feint, he struck with his right hand, aiming the tips of his fingers at Winter Lord's throat.
Bam!
But at the last moment, the Elder activated an artifact, in the shape of an amulet, around his neck, forming a mana barrier and protecting him from Adam's attack.
Then, with a cold look on his face, he weaved yet another simple hand seal and swiped his right hand upward.
Dozens of thick ice spears emerged from the ground, growing and elongating rapidly as they threatened to impale Adam, who was already standing so close to the Winter Lord.
Adam scoffed and immediately retreated. His monstrous speed was enough to evade the attack.
Having missed his attack, the Winter Lord wasn't disappointed. Instead, he praised the masked man. "You're very fast," he said in a cold voice.
"And you're quite good at ice magic," said the raven-haired youth nonchalantly. "Well, that's a given, considering you've got an Innate Physique."
"How do you know about Innate Physique?" The Winter Lord asked, genuine curiosity in his voice.
After all, even the Cult Leader, whom he considered the most knowledgeable man in the world, knew little about it. But strangely enough, the masked man seemed to know a lot more.
"I'll tell you all about it," said Adam, a mischievous smile on his face. "But I have one condition."
"Please state," the Winter Lord politely said.
"Betray the Cult of Bones," Adam said with a grin. "Renounce that vile lich, and I'll tell you everything you need to know about your constitution."
The Winter Lord's expression remained cold and indifferent for a few moments. But then, his face instantly twisted into a dark, cruel scowl. This was perhaps the most intense expression that he had ever shown in the recent past.
"How dare you!" The white-haired Magus roared.
His hands blurred, and the next moment…
Clap!
He slammed his palms together, fingers extended toward Adam.
From the narrow gap between the palms, a thin beam of ice burst forth, crossing the distance in a fraction of a second and appearing right before Adam's eyes.
