Adam's face turned pale.Meanwhile, Valerian's heart raced with anticipation.
The sound of massive wings flapping filled the air. Distant, thunderous roars rolled across the island as the presence of colossal predators closed in.
The pressure grew heavier with each passing second, pressing down on the crumbling citadel.
More cracks spread across the ceiling just from the mere aura. Dust fell from up above, and soon the ground itself began to tremble.
The dragons were coming.
And then...
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
One by one, the mighty dragons of the Somnia Clan landed on the floating island. Their arrival caused the very land to tremble.
For a brief moment, Adam even felt that the citadel would crumble down. But in the end, it held even after close to a dozen giant dragons landed on the island.
Just from their mere arrival, an intense and suffocating aura permeated the entire land. Adam's back was drenched in a layer of cold sweat, and he found himself drawing ragged breaths.
Valerian, on the other hand, felt strangely excited. The aura felt familiar to him. It didn't spread terror in his heart. Instead, it made him feel like... he was at
home.
"Brother!" He exclaimed. "I can feel it! They're all like me! Just like me!"
Adam was having trouble holding a steady breath. He couldn't help but curse inwardly, Dragonshit! Talk about presence...
Soon, the sound of bones shifting and flesh reshaping filled the air. Adam knew that all the dragons beyond the citadel walls were transforming into their humanoid forms.
Before long, several armored figures in flowing white capes stepped into the great hall. They were led by a man noticeably taller than the rest. The group came to a stop beside Zagho.
All of them shared the same silvery-gray hair, piercing topaz eyes, and sharp, refined features. The aura emanating from them was profound, heavy, and immeasurable.
Valerian gazed at every one of them with wide, shiny eyes. Meanwhile, Adam was sweating like a damned horse.
Standing in the presence of dragons was truly something!
The one leading the group of dragons, Endi Somnia, was one of the Regents of the Somnia Clan, a mighty dragon whose strength was equivalent to a Transcendent Magus.
In other words... he was two entire ranks higher than Adam!
Add to the fact that he was a mighty dragon. That naturally made him more powerful - physically and magically than other species of the same rank.
The proud dragon stood beside Zagho, listening to his report through mental transmission. Throughout the time, his gaze never left Valerian, who was tucked comfortably in Adam's robes.
Finally, toward the end of Zagho's report, Endi Somnia shifted his gaze to Adam. His piercing topaz eyes scanned the raven-haired youth's figure, as if peering through his essence and uncovering all of his secrets.
Adam couldn't help but subconsciously take a step back. He was already feeling uncomfortable being in the presence of so many powerful dragons. Now, with the most powerful of them looking at him so intensely, he couldn't help but feel
nervous.
A few moments later, Endi Somnia began walking toward Adam - an act that made him even more anxious.
But what could he do?
Nothing.
Endi stood right before the raven-haired youth. He was two heads taller than him, and as such, was looking down at him coldly. When Endi shifted his gaze to Valerian, the coldness in his topaz eyes disappeared. However, he still appeared indifferent.
"My Prince," he began. "I am Endi, a Regent of the Somnia Clan."
"H-Hello," the gray cat nervously greeted. "I... I am Valerian... Valerian Constantine."
Endi frowned, thinking to himself, Zagho was right.
The Prince is indeed deeply attached to the human. To think that he would take
up a lesser being's surname, despite being made aware of his true heritage...
"May I see your hand?" He asked in a low voice.
Valerian hesitated. Before answering, he glanced at Adam, who gave a stiff nod
in response.
The young dragon then stretched out his furry little paw.
Endi gently clasped Valerian's hand, sending a pulse of his own energy into the latter's body. He slowly closed his eyes.
Soon, he couldn't help but frown.
"I-Is there something wrong?" Adam asked in a panic.
Endi briefly glanced at the human before shifting his attention to Valerian.
"Your spiritual energy is very pure, far purer than your mana," he began. "And by our standards, it is also quite high."
He paused for a moment, then added. "Your growth so far has been satisfactory by our standards. But considering you've been raised in a lower world, I'd say
your development has been... exceptional."
Endi continued, his words taking the rest of the dragons by surprise.
"Your skeletal structure is strong. Your bones and cartilages have developed properly, without distortion. Your musculature is balanced, and your physical foundation is stable."
His gaze sharpened slightly.
"Your brain and mental faculties show healthy growth. There are no signs of instability or fragmentation. Your scales are dense and resilient, and your physique is sturdy for your age."
He finally withdrew his hands and gave a small nod.
"You have been raised well, Your Highness."
Hearing such a positive assessment by an elder of his clan, Valerian beamed.
"Myu! It's because of Brother! He taught me everything! He even taught me
how to fish!"
Adam's lips twitched, a drop of cold sweat trickling down the side of his
forehead.
Shut the hell up, you little brat! He screamed inwardly.
Endi and the others had assumed that Valerian's growth would be severely
limited by being raised in a lower world. The mana density, the arcane ceiling, the lack of proper draconic resources, all of it should have stunted him.
Yet the results truly surprised them.
Valerian's foundations were solid. Not flawless, not extraordinary by their clan's highest standards, but stable, balanced, and far better than they had expected under such conditions.
Endi turned to Adam.
"Constantine, is it?"
The raven-haired youth nodded nervously. "Yes. Adam Constantine."
"You have done a good job raising our Elder's youngest child," Endi said with
faint approval.
His eyes then narrowed slightly. "Now, your turn."
He extended a hand toward Adam.
Adam's face paled. There were secrets within his body he had no intention of
revealing.
"I... I'd rather not," he said as he took a step back subconsciously.
"I'm afraid you don't have a choice, Constantine."
Before Adam could react, Endi vanished and reappeared behind him. A firm
hand settled on Adam's shoulder.
And then...
Adam was pulled into a dream.
