Headmaster's Office, Saratoga Castle. After discussing Adam's plan, the two Mana Core Magi of Ravenfell returned to the Castle.
Daniel Ranzenberg leaned against the wall, arms crossed and a dark frown on his face. Meanwhile, Nylian Feno paced back and forth, his expression riddled with panic.
"Curses!" The Headmaster spat. "That boy... he's crazy!"
Daniel snorted. "What's crazier is that His Majesty agreed to it."
Nylian had never felt such a headache before. Adam's return to Ravenfell was already stressful enough. And now he had to deal with an even greater problem.
He walked to his desk and activated a communication artifact. He took deep breaths as he patiently waited for the other side to answer his call.
A few minutes later, the disk on the table suddenly lit up, runes along its surface glowing faintly.
Then, light gathered above it and formed a holographic illusion in midair. A figure slowly took shape, resolving into the image of Lucian Acadia standing before them.
"Your Majesty," Nylian and Daniel respectfully greeted.
Lucian calmly nodded at them. He turned to Nylian with an arched brow and asked, "What's the matter?"
The corner of Nylian's lips twitched. "Your Majesty, are you aware of Adam's plan?"
Lucian remained silent for a few moments, then nodded. "Vaguely..."
Nylian was dumbfounded. "Your Majesty, he... he's planning to-"
The Emperor interrupted him. "I know what he's planning," he said in an even voice.
"Then you also surely know how many people's lives he's putting at risk!" Nylian pressed.
He was completely puzzled as to how the Emperor even agreed to Adam's proposal in the first place. This was a very serious matter and should never have been allowed.
"He's strong, Nylian," the Emperor calmly said. "Very strong."
"But still!" Nylian protested.
"I met him recently," Lucian said. "And I think I have a clear idea of his strength."
He paused for a moment, then said in a solemn voice. "Truth be told, I'm uncertain of my chances of coming out victorious should the two of us fight." Hearing those words, Nylian's eyes slowly widened in disbelief.
It was common knowledge among the Mana Core Magi of the Ulier Continent - and even Nahua, for that matter - that Lucian Acadia was the undisputed strongest Magus.
And yet now, that very same man claimed there was another Magus who could stand on equal footing with him.
Nylian Feno's astonishment was more than justified.
"Why don't you ask Daniel?" Lucian gestured. "He should have gotten a glimpse of Adam's strength in Glassford."
The Headmaster subconsciously gulped. He turned to his childhood friend and silently shot him an inquisitive gaze.
Daniel sighed and nodded. "I don't think I can last more than a few moves against Adam."
Nylian remained frozen for a long time.
He couldn't help but wonder just what kind of trials Adam must have endured in the last forty-five years, not only to emerge as a Mana Core Magus, but to stand among the strongest in the world.
"This will be our declaration of war, Nylian." Lucian's voice echoed in the Headmaster's office.
Nylian gritted his teeth, the events of the Battle of Ravenfell replaying in his mind. "But..."
The Emperor assured him.
"I am certain that Adam will be able to deal with it. He needs this opportunity to win back the hearts of the people - his people."
He paused, his voice softening.
"On the off chance, he cannot handle it... I will be there."
Lucian smiled faintly.
"Hidden, of course."
Hearing the Emperor's words, Nylian felt more assured in his heart. He took a deep breath and asked, "So the time has arrived, hasn't it?"
"Yes" Lucian solemnly said. "We cannot allow the Cult to do to Ulier what they did to Indus. We must take the fight to the enemy. And Adam..."
The Emperor paused, his eyes narrowing.
"He shall be the sword of the Empire that strikes at the enemy's heart."
Nylian and Daniel straightened at those words.
"What we spoke about today must not leave this room," Lucian said in a
dignified voice. "Understood?"
"Yes, Your Majesty." The two Magi respectfully nodded.
"Good." With that said, Lucian's holographic illusion dissipated.
Silence returned to the room.
Nylian finally turned to Daniel and couldn't help but ask, "Is Adam seriously that
strong?"
Daniel shrugged. "Hmm."
He then departed, for he still had to prepare everything for Adam's public
hearing in the coming days.
Nylian, left alone inside his office, sank into his chair. He rubbed his temples
and softly muttered under his breath:
"Mentor, please look over us..."
***
The Galestine Ocean was restless that day.
Dark waves rolled endlessly across the vast expanse of blue, crashing against one another with deep, thunderous force. The wind howled across the surface, sending spray and foam into the air.
It was the kind of sea that would force even seasoned sailors to turn their ships around. Yet seven figures moved across those wild waters as if the raging storm
meant nothing.
They glided just above the surface, their dark robes and cloaks snapping in the wind as they advanced at high speed. Each of them radiated a powerful aura. The sheer density of mana surrounding their body caused the air to distort
slightly.
These were no ordinary Magi.
They were among the most powerful spellcasters of the Cult of Bones!
At the front of the group flew the Flame Lord, Iroh Silvas. The elderly Magus cut through the stormy air. A faint heat seemed to surround him.
Even amid the cold ocean winds, the air near his body trembled with warmth,
hinting at the terrifying flames he commanded. And he also commanded an army of the undead.
His face was calm and unreadable, but the power rolling from him was unmistakable. As an Elder of the Inner Circle, his strength and authority
commanded absolute obedience.
Behind him followed six Mana Core Magi, each maintaining perfect formation
as they crossed the ocean together.
None of them spoke. There was no need. They all knew their destination, and
they all knew their objective.
The last time the Cult of Bones dispatched this many Mana Core Magi to
Ravenfell, the city was engulfed in death, flames, and destruction.
But this time, would the same fate await?
Only time would tell...
