The Cult's secret base fell eerily silent. It had been completely empty, with only the dark aftermath remaining.
Corpses of scholars and researchers lay scattered across the chambers and the
corridors, their lifeless bodies sprawled among shattered instruments and overturned tables.
Fresh blood lay splattered across the dull walls, and the stench of death permeated almost every corner. Arcane contraptions flickered weakly, some still humming as if unaware their masters were gone.
Deeper within the base, the true horror lingered...
Hundreds of children were still bound to pipes, tubes, and grotesque devices. Their small bodies hung limply, their breaths were shallow, and their eyes dull and unfocused. Some twitched faintly, while others didn't move at all.
They had never been meant to live. To the Cult, they were nothing more than experimental subjects, tools to extract data, to test limits, to push boundaries that should never have been touched.
Now, the experiments had ended.
And so too would their suffering.
At long last... they would be laid to rest.
Adam plunged from the skies at his fastest speed, a terrifying amount of tyrannical mana gathering around his fist. The wind roared past his ears,
whipping against his face, yet his eyes remained steady, burning with a storm of emotions.
Edward's words echoed in his mind.
They are beyond saving.
Death would be a mercy.
Adam gritted his teeth.
So many children... lives broken before they had even begun. All because of one deranged man and the madness he preached.
That was why Adam loathed necromancy.
In the pursuit of overcoming death, they had long forgotten the true value of life.
The mana around his fist surged, growing denser, stronger, brighter, until he resembled a blazing beacon cutting through skies above the mist-covered mountains.
The peak of the mountain rushed up to meet him. The Cult's hidden base lay just beneath.
For a fleeting moment, Adam's eyes reddened with emotion. He whispered, his voice barely audible beneath the howling winds.
"I'm sorry..."
And then... the Dark King struck with all his might.
Hand of Doom: Divine Meteor!
BOOOOMM!!!
His fist crashed down with overwhelming force. A blinding burst of tyrannical mana erupted on impact, and in the next moment, the mountain trembled as if the heavens themselves had come crashing down.
The impact was absolute. The entire mountain collapsed under the force of Adam's strike. Stone, soil, and everything beneath it were pulverized in almost an instant.
The hidden base, its countless chambers, the corridors, and the horrors... all of it reduced to nothing, crushed and shattered beyond recognition.
A massive crater replaced the mountain. There was now only ruin, jagged debris, fractured earth, and dust rising in thick waves.
The force of the blow rippled outward. The ground trembled violently, cracks racking across the surrounding terrain. The perpetual mist that had blanketed the mountain was blasted away, swept away by the sheer force of the impact. Nothing remained of the base. Nothing remained of its sins.
***
Edward, Krummor, their men, and the rescued children were already more than a mile away from the base.
And yet, they felt it.
A crushing pressure swept through the mountains, as if the sky itself had fallen. The ground beneath their feet trembled, like an earthquake tearing through the land.
Several of the children cried out in fear. They had just escaped the hellish base and attained freedom. To experience such a thing right after leaving the base made thier hearts sink.
The trees around them shook, branches whipping and leaves tearing free as a powerful gust blew outward in all directions. Even the ever-present mist began to recede, pushed back by an invisible force spreading from the mountain's direction.
Some of the men lost their footing and fell to the ground. Others dropped to one knee and braced themselves.
Edward steadied himself, his eyes widening as he turned toward where the base had once been. Krumor did the same, his being filled with disbelief.
In the distance, where the mountain had stood... there was nothing,
A vast emptiness.
And as the tremors faded and the mist returned, a chilling realization gripped
their hearts.
That single strike had erased everything!
Edward was the first to snap out of his senses. "Quick!" he urged everyone. "We
need to get to the rendezvous point!"
Everyone gathered their wits and followed him eastward.
But one thing was certain...
What they had witnessed was something they'd never forget.
***
Balthazar had already slain one of the cultists.
When the Divine Meteor descended, he had already expected it. For he had
already discussed the battle plan with the Dark King.
But the other Cultist hadn't...
When the base - along with the mountain - was reduced to dust, the man
froze in horror. For a single, fatal moment, he was thunderstruck. His senses were overwhelmed, and his focus was shattered by the sheer scale of the
destruction.
That was all Balthazar needed. He moved without hesitation, his black flames
lashing out.
Now, all that remained was the charred body of the last Mana Core-level cultist
twitching in his grasp.
The man's body was engulfed in writhing black fire, flesh cracking and burning as the flames consumed him. His limbs jerked weakly, nerves firing in their final moments, before gradually falling still.
Balthazar watched in silence as the life faded from the man's eyes. Then, with a cold expression, he let the burning corpse drop from his hand.
An orb of light emerged from the corpse and shot toward him. But before it could burrow into his body, a serpent emerged from within his robes and stood right in the way, causing the orb of light to enter it instead.
Balthazar then turned his gaze toward the source of destruction. Just before
the creeping mists rolled back in and swallowed everything once more, he caught a fleeting glimpse...
The Dark King stood alone amid the ruins. Amid dust, shattered earth, and
silence.
His shoulders were slouched, not in exhaustion.
But as if...
He was silently grieving.
***
Adam stood at the center of the deep, vast crater.
He slowly raised his hands and stared at them. They trembled ever so slightly.
For a moment, he tried to hold himself together, to keep everything contained.
But he couldn't.
The tears came anyway. They slipped past his lashes and fell to the ruined ground in silent droplets.
And yet, his lips curled into a smile.
So many orbs of light had just streamed into the mysterious space within the
Lotus.
So, so many...
