Chapter 1664 Cruel Fate

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Despite witnessing how badly Edward had defeated Orion, Murphy was fairly certain of his ability to emerge victorious.

He didn't look down upon Edward just because he was young. And he most certainly didn't look down because the latter was a newly advanced Mana Core Magus.

In all fairness, Murphy had taken the youth very seriously. And that was why he had summoned his undead army from the beginning, without any hesitation whatsoever.

After all, he had already seen what had happened to his ally when he wasn't able to summon his own undead army. The outcome was disastrous, for Orion had ended up utterly injured and knocked out cold.

So when Murphy brought out the full force of his undead horde, he was confident in defeating Edward.

After all, the youth had only just emerged from a grueling battle with Orion and was pretty injured himself. Moreover, he would be facing over a hundred undead creatures led by two powerful Rank 4 undead knights.

Murphy had been certain....

But his confidence shattered like fragile glass when he witnessed Edward casting Thunderfall and dealing with his undead horde in one, swift spell.

One had to know that undead creatures were utterly difficult - nigh impossible, in fact - to kill. There were only two ways to deal with them: either kill the one who summoned them or completely eradicate them to such a

degree that they were unable to regenerate at all.

The second method was naturally extremely difficult.

But Edward had done exactly that!

With a single spell, he had completely obliterated over a hundred undead creatures. And he had done it overwhelmingly so.

It must be noted that the undead horde consisted of over a dozen Mana Vortex-level beings, and the vast majority of it were at the Mana Liquefaction Rank.

Yet Edward had killed them so thoroughly that only ashes remained...

That was when Murphy realized that the youth wasn't someone he could hope to go against. Not even in his imagination.

But still, somewhere deep down in his heart, he desperately clung to the feeling of Edward somehow being injured against his undead knights - injured enough for him to scoop in and kill him.

After all, if word reached the Cult Leader that not only had he failed to protect the military stronghold and defeat the enemies, but also escaped like a cowering animal with his tail tucked between his legs, the punishment would be... brutal, to say the least.

However, when he saw Edward effortlessly dodge the simultaneous killing blows of his undead knight, and then immediately after kill one of them, Murphy had lost all hope.

He would not be able to lay even a scratch on the terrifying youth, let alone kill him. In that moment, the Cultist chose to immediately flee. Thanks to his artifact, his presence had been concealed fully, and Edward still hadn't located him.

Murphy turned around and frantically rushed to the place where he had left Orion. He silently cursed to himself in rage and helplessness when he noticed that his ally was still unconscious.

Perhaps, if Orion were to fight side by side with him....

No!

He screamed inwardly, fear creeping into his heart.

Even if he were to team up with Orion and his surviving undead knight, he didn't think he would be able to come out victorious in a fight against the lightning wielder.

And so, without hesitation, he scooped Orion up in his arms, threw him over his shoulder, and slipped away unnoticed. Only after putting enough distance between himself and Edward did he form hand seals and take to the sky, disappearing into the distance.

It pained his heart to realize that every last one of his undead horde was now dead... again.

Yes, he even considered the last undead knight to be gone. He knew Edward would obliterate it as well. Murphy only hoped that the creature held its ground long enough for him to escape.

Oh, how many decades - centuries, even it had taken him to slay his enemies and cultivate them into his loyal undead servants. Yet now, in but a matter of minutes, all his hard work had been turned to ash under the tyranny of lightning.

No, what matters most is my life, he thought to himself grimly, steadying his state of mind.

The information Orion and I take back to the Cult will prove to be far more valuable than if we both were to just... die.

As he crossed the night sky, he couldn't help but turn to his unconscious ally. He sneered in contempt but did not say anything. For he knew, he wouldn't fare any differently had he been in Orion's shoes.

Murphy believed he had truly escaped the cruel fate of death, but little did he know...

A mysterious figure was silently pursuing him.

***

Back on the ground, Edward faced off against the final undead knight. His high was slowly wearing off, and he became increasingly alert to his surroundings. After all, according to him, Murphy and perhaps, even Orion, were hiding somewhere, looking for an opportunity to take him down. So he increased the output of lightning around his body, willing it to form a natural barrier.

Suddenly, Edward's eyes narrowed.

The last undead knight had made its move!

The towering creature exploded as it shot toward him, its spiked mace ready to

kill.

Edward circulated lightning through his lower body, and the next moment, he vanished. He rushed forward at the speed of... well, lightning, and almost instantaneously arrived right before the undead knight.

The creature's arms were still raised as it held the mace. Edward's speed was simply too fast for its mind to process.

The Storm King gritted his teeth as power coursed through his right arm. He pulled it back and then drove it forward with everything he had. With a deafening roar that tore from his throat, his fist slammed into the knight's

armoured chest.

BOOOOM!!!

Lightning erupted. The upper half of the knight was obliterated in an instant, armor and bone reduced to nothing, leaving only his waist and legs. Edward didn't stop, for he knew he had to completely destroy the foul creature

to truly kill it.

He brought his hands together above his head, clasped his fingers tightly, and then slammed them down with tremendous force.

With another thunderous explosion, the knight's remaining body was crushed

under Edward's follow-up strike. The ground caved in, and a large crater had

formed where the knight had stood.

The Storm King had done it...

He had exterminated the entirety of the undead horde!
