Chapter 1671 Cold and Final

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

The following day, chaos descended upon Jomuran before the first rays of the sun.

Bells rang across the city, their sharp toll cutting through the early morning stillness. Patrols broke formation and rushed to their posts. Orders were shouted, repeated, then drowned out by the growing noise.

Around the administrative center, Haynam Magi took up defensive positions, forming layers of protection. Magical wards flared to life along the walls, subtle lights pulsing as the security tightened.

Meanwhile, in the underground prison, the reaction was wild and immediate.

The prisoners began slamming against iron bars, chains rattling loudly, and their voices ringing into a chaotic roar. The noise spread through the complex, turning the already tense atmosphere into something unstable.

This was the first time such a phenomenon had happened. Judging by the sequence and frequency of the bells, it indicated that someone had infiltrated Jomuran, a city known to be impregnable by most standards.

Or why else would there be a prison complex situated at the center of it? Its because the wardens believed that no one could enter or leave without their permission.

And yet... someone had managed to do just that.

Outside the walls of the city, the Cult's flying vessel had descended in silence. It touched down, its gray sails folding as figures began to pour out.

A hundred Mana Vortex Magi stepped onto the ground one after another, their expressions grim. Without hesitation, they advanced toward the city's center, slipping through several entry points.

The bells kept ringing, and that only meant one thing...

An enemy had infiltrated Jomuran. Worse still, no one knew who or where it was!

Guiding the Cult's Magi through the city gates, the elderly Mana Core Magus with the receding hairline, Edsel, had a dark look on his face.

In his hand, he held the Lantern, and the red orb within pointed him straight toward the administrative center.

The apprehension in his gray eyes was soon replaced by a sinister light.

"This is good," he said in a cold voice. "He's saved us a lot of time."

When Vortigan had called for reinforcements a few weeks ago, it was a given that it would be a time-consuming process to locate the Dark King.

Edsel hadn't even bothered entertaining the thought that the Dark King would come to their doorsteps of his own accord.

Another Mana Core Magus walking beside him couldn't help but ask with a solemn look.

"Do you think this will be enough?"

He had heard about the Dark King's exploits, after all. Everyone in the upper echelons of the Cult had. Despite only being a recently advanced Mana Core Magus, the Dark King had struck terror in their hearts.

After all, he had slain the Flame Lord. Additionally, he had also effortlessly butchered six other Mana Core Magi at the same time.

Who in their right mind wouldn't be apprehensive of facing off against such a freak of nature?

Edsel didn't slow down in his footsteps. The sound of the local residents' frantic shouts and voices echoed all around them. He then turned to the one who had just spoken and spoke in a cold voice.

"Morofin, do you even hear yourself?" He asked, sneering. "Me, you, Rigby, and Ayunka. There are four of us here already. And each of us commands two undead knights at the Mana Core Rank. That makes our fighting force comprise of twelve Mana Core Magi!"

"Hehe." Rigby's snicker echoed in the air. "Twelve Mana Core Magi are enough to take down a nation, let alone the Dark King"

"Indeed." Ayunka nodded. "Not to mention, we have Vortigan and Elira, as well as the other two who just recently arrived."

Even considering that Murphy had lost his two undead knights, along with the rest of his undead horde, the Cult's current fighting force in Jomuran was still twenty-two Mana Core Magi strong!!

Twenty-two Mana Core Magi...

Just what kind of concept was that?

And to think that all of them were going against a single opponent was simply ridiculous!

"Besides..."

Edsel's voice cut through the air. He pointed at the giant stone pillar in the distance.

"That right there is an artifact of the School of Abjuration," he continued. "It acts as the focus for the vast mana barrier currently enveloping the city!"

He turned his gaze back to the Lantern in his hand and added. "I don't know how the Dark King managed to fool the artifact and infiltrate the city." Edsel then shifted his gaze to the administrative center. "But he can forget about leaving now!"

Administrative Center.

Inside the warden's chamber, Elira's face had twisted into a ferocious scowl. She shed all pretenses and grabbed Orion's collars.

"You led him right into the city!" she roared, her eyes flashing with bloodlust. "How could you be so careless!"

"My Lady, please!" Orion blurted out, a drop of cold sweat trickling down the side of his forehead. "Y-You can ask Murphy! We stopped at least a dozen times to scout our surroundings. I was certain that no one followed us!"

He looked to Murphy, who stood trembling in fright, with a pleading look on his face. "Say something already!"

Murphy snapped out of his thoughts. He cast a brief glance at Orion, then turned his attention to the enraged Elira.

"He speaks the truth, my lady!" He blurted out in shock and apprehension. "W-We don't know what happened! We were sure that we covered our tracks

well-"

His words got caught in his throat when Elira hurled Orion straight at him. "Then how the hell do you explain this?!" She screamed in frustration.

"Elira."

Right at that moment, Vortigan's calm but cold voice echoed in the chamber. "Calm down."

The future Elder, Elira, snapped toward Vortigan and hissed. "How do you—"

Vortigan sternly cut her off. "Including all of our undead knights and us, there are twenty-two Mana Core Magi."

He paused for a moment, his voice turning colder. "And there's only one Dark

King."

Elira gnashed her teeth. She wasn't enraged at the Dark King's infiltration. No, what she was truly furious about was Orion and Murphy's carelessness.

She inhaled deeply and then nodded. "Very well."

Vortigan let out a quiet sigh. "We'll wait for Edsel and the others, and then..."

His eyes narrowed, and his voice turned cold and final.

"We will capture the Dark King."
