Three Mana Core Magi and six undead knights.Edward thought to himself grimly as he quickly counted the enemies that had surrounded him.
Beyond them, warships floated on the waters for as far as his eyes could see. It looked crowded and intimidating. He had never seen so many ships together,
and the fact that all of them were heading toward Amberfall made his expression turn very solemn.
Adam said there are four of them, Edward thought as he scanned the hostile faces of his enemies.
So one Mana Core Magus and two of his undead knights are likely to attack from the north. This is going to get troublesome.
I need to get rid of as many of them as possible, and as quickly as possible!
"You're quite the arrogant one, aren't you, boy?" Tedric, a Magus of Haynam and a member of the Cult of Bones, looked coldly toward Edward.
Around him were his fellow cultists, Diggory and Dorset. But instead of focusing their attention on Edward, they looked north. They saw four Mana Core Magi rapidly flying toward them. But they weren't bothered in the least.
They understood their plan: to separate the Mana Core Magi from the rest of the army, so that their battle didn't affect the other Magi.
This was usually how a battle between two armies led by Mana Core Magi went. They served as a deterrent. However, the result of their individual battles also determined the outcome of the battle between their respective armies.
Edward's eyes blazed with fighting intent. Lightning flickered in the depths of his piercing blue eyes.
"Fine then," he said, glancing at Tedric. "You'll do."
With that said, he disappeared from his spot, leaving behind nothing but a fading bolt of lightning. In the blink of an eye, Edward had already arrived before Tedric, much to the latter's shock.
Edward viciously grabbed his face and then flew off into the distance. Everything had happened so fast that the rest of the Magi were still looking at the piece of wreckage where the blue-eyed youth had just been standing.
But in less than a second, Edward had disappeared, and so had Tedric. Magus Diggory and Magus Dorset only snapped back to their senses when they noticed Tedric's undead knights hastily flying away to aid him.
But the two remaining Mana Core Magi didn't have any more time to waste. The rest of the Amberfall Mana Core Magi were already upon them. But before they'd even arrived, a wave of black flames swept toward the fleet first.
"Quick! Defend!" Diggory roared as he flew to the forefront of the fleet and cast a wide-scale spell. He could already tell these strange flames were dangerous. And he couldn't afford to allow any more ships and soldiers to be destroyed. Dorset followed behind, his face twisting into a scowl. Everything had happened way too fast. They had thought Edward was a cocky little brat, but in the blink of an eye, he had already separated Tedric and his two knights from the fighting force.
Balthazar's black flames turned into a tidal wave as they threatened to consume the first several rows of warships.
The Haynam Magi aboard the ships paled in fright when they saw a black tsunami cover their vision. Even before the flames arrived, the heat had pressed onto them, making it difficult to even breathe.
But just in the nick of time, Diggory and Dorset appeared in front of the fleet and combined their spells. It was a fortunate thing for them that they had a boundless supply of material components, and it was right underneath their feet.
A giant magic circle materialized, and the waters below churned. In the next heartbeat, an equally big and terrifying tidal wave - this one made of water - surged forward and met the wave of flames head-on.
In a terrifying dance of fire and water, the black and blue elements collided and white steam covered the world.
The people aboard the ships at the front were engulfed by scalding steam, and their cries of anguish filled the air. But at least, they were still alive.
From the dense steam, a flaming sword emerged, illuminating the surroundings. The color of the flame wasn't black. It was bright with hues of orange and red. Fiery sword light flashed in the air as Anna swung it at one of the cultists.
Clang!
But her assault was stopped by an undead knight. Anna's eyes narrowed, and the flames around her sword flared brilliantly in response to her emotions.
A dark shadow prowled through the hot mist and attacked Anna while she was preoccupied. However, before the shadow's broadsword could even come close to her, a mana barrier made of interlocking hexagons materialized into existence, stopping the blow.
The elderly Magus, Virion, appeared beside Princess Anna, his defensive spell effectively stopping the shadow's sneak attack. The shadow in question turned out to be none other than another foul undead knight.
And then another appeared, wielding a giant warhammer. With a thunderous sound that echoed across Summer Sea, the knight violently broke Virion's mana
barrier.
Meanwhile, Anna exchanged a few blows with her opponent, then disengaged. She exchanged a quick glance with Virion, and they came to an understanding. Then they rapidly retreated, and the three undead knights followed behind them. Soon, they disappeared into the mist.
At the same time, Balthazar had also picked his opponent. Or rather, opponents. It was Diggory and one of his undead knights. And lastly, Magus Bunoliso had engaged with Dorset, and after a series of brutal exchanges, they took their battle far away.
The Mana Core Magi on both sides had found their opponents and had begun their battles. Of course, King Maximilian still remained within the city, patiently waiting for the mysterious fourth Mana Core-cultist to appear.
As the hot mist slowly dissipated, the empire's fleet appeared once more in all its gargantuan glory. Although half a dozen warships were destroyed, more than two hundred still remained.
Standing at the bow of his personal galleon, Prince Liam Haynam had a vicious look on his face. There were blisters and burn marks on his exposed skin, and blood flowed from the side of his forehead.
He had almost died to the Storm King's attack, but thanks to several powerful artifacts he carried, he had made it out alive. Anger burned within his heart, and he channeled it all toward the objective at hand.
Prince Liam drew his sword and pointed it northward. He inhaled deeply and
roared, his voice magically echoing across the fleet.
"Advance, brave men of Haynam! Let us take the city!"
