Chapter 1718 Osbert's True Goal

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

While the battle for the city raged on the ground, the skirmishes in the sky above grew more and more tense as time passed.

After Bunosilo's death, things had taken a drastic turn very quickly.

Edward found himself facing off against three knights and a cultist. Balthazar now battled two cultists and a knight. Finally, Anna and Virion faced off against three knights and a cultist.

Naturally, the Storm King's situation was the worst.

By now, he had already accrued a few injuries. Not anything grievous. But injuries, nonetheless.

He had been holding his own fairly well against his enemies until the third knight appeared out of nowhere and dealt him a blow. Capitalizing on that brief window of opportunity, Tedric led the rest of the knights to gang up on him. Edward spat some blood to the side, then wiped the crimson off his lips. He gazed at the three knights surrounding him in a triangle formation. Finally, his gaze settled on Tedric, who looked back at him with a condescending smirk. "You're good, boy. I'll give you that," Tedric said in a low voice. "If it were anybody else, they would have long since folded. But you..." He shook his head. "You didn't. You survived."

While the cultist began his monologue, Edward scanned the battlefield. Things were already not looking good before, and now they had turned worse. Worse still, he had to hold his ground. Escape was a luxury he could not afford.

If he fled, his enemies would quickly shift their focus to his allies. And then it was over for them.

Fighting in the air was difficult. He was slowly getting used to it, but it wasn't as fast as he would have liked. For now, he could only do his best to try to hold these four enemies with him.

"...So tell me, boy." Tedric arched a brow. "What do you think about my proposal?"

"What was that?" Lightning flickered across Edward's body. "I didn't hear a word you said."

The corner of the cultist's eye twitched, and anger flared within him. He sighed, shaking his head. "Forget it," he murmured. He then waved his hand, his following words colder.

"Kill him."

At his command, the three undead knights flew toward him at incredible speed, weapons in hand. Edward had already prepared. Lightning streaked across his body, and he zoomed past them like... well, lightning.

In the next heartbeat, he was already before Tedric.

His battle plan was clear: deal with the necromancer, and the summoned creatures could automatically be dealt with.

With that in mind, boundless bloodthirst rolled off of him as he began violently exchanging moves with Tedric. Very soon, the undead knights entered the fray.

Anna and Virion fought with their backs facing each other.

The elderly Magus of the Union faced off against two undead knights. Whereas, the Princess of Ignisra fought Dorset and the remaining undead knight.

On many occasions, the enemies had tried to separate the two and take them away to different battlefields.

However, Anna had stuck closely to Virion. She knew that once the old man was separated and fought two undead knights all by himself, it wouldn't be long before he was overwhelmed and killed. And when that happened, the two knights would join her enemies.

Dorset, the cultist who had just slain Bunosilo, quickly found out the gruesome effect Anna's flames had on the undead knights. So he ensured that none of the knights came close to her.

"How long do you think your father's going to survive, little princess?" His words struck like a whip.

"He's but a frail old man. Do you wish to know how many Mana Core Magi he's facing on the ground?"

Anna remained silent, her face devoid of any emotion. She would not fall for the enemy's tricks.

"I'll tell you," Dorset said, his lips curling into a malicious smile. "It's not one. It's more."

Anna's eyes narrowed. She subconsciously discarded the enemy's words. Adam had conveyed to her the number of enemy Mana Core Magi, and she trusted his words. His source had never once fed him wrong intel.

Not receiving any reaction out of the woman, Dorset's smile widened. "How do you think that man... what was his name? Ah, yes, Bunosilo. How do you think he died? Did you think I killed him on my own? No, I had help. Help from the person who was supposed to lead the ground assault."

He paused briefly as he noticed a flicker of emotion in Anna's ruby eyes. "If that man is out here, then who's leading the army on the ground? Don't you think that's a question worth pondering? Also, let me bring you in on another matter..."

His voice turned low, full of venom. "Your people are heavily outnumbered on the ground. Not only are they facing an army of undead, but now there's even an army of orcs. You'd better overcome me and run to your daddy quickly, little

princess."

Dorset's words turned even more cold as he willed the undead knight behind him to move.

"Because if the city's defenses fall," he continued, "and those monsters get to

your loved ones..."

He did not finish his words, but the underlying threat was clear. And that elicited a ferocious reaction out of the princess.

Her aura blazed fiercely as she engaged with Dorset and his undead knight.

Osbert sat comfortably on his mount and gazed at the undead horde, desperately trying to claw their way through the barrier.

He knew it was a hopeless endeavor. He had spent a considerable amount of

time in Amberfall and knew much about the city. For one, he knew just how

powerful the barrier surrounding the city wall was.

If so, then why was he having the undead horde attack the barrier if he knew it

was futile?

The answer was simple.

It was a diversion.

Then what was Osbert's true goal?

His lips curled into a malicious smile, and a cold chuckle escaped him. "I have

been waiting for this day," he murmured.

Far from the raging battle, there was a sewer opening set into the ground.

It was easy to miss as it was half covered by debris and shadow, with a faint stench rising from below. No guards stood near it, and no magical wards

protected it.

Through the sewage opening, a narrow tunnel stretched inward beneath the

city. It passed under the walls, under the barrier, and led straight into

Amberfall.

And right now, groups of orcs had already slipped inside....
