Chapter 1755 Shadowmuir

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

The first thing Adam noticed was the lack of color.

He spread his senses outward, ready to defend against the possible attacks of the devils at any moment. But no attack came. The devils had disappeared. For now, at least.

As he looked around, he saw that he was on the battlefield where he had just fought the shadowkins. Except, this one was dark. It was a dark echo of the place he had fought in just moments ago.

So this is the infamous Shadowmuir, he thought to himself with a grim look on his face.

There was no sun. The sky was a dark-gray canvas. Everything in this realm had been sucked out of all color, leaving nothing but black and white. Strangely enough, even the white looked colorless.

The ground was dark. The trees and boulders were colorless. Even as he looked at himself, he found that all the colors from his clothes and body had drained.

Adam couldn't help but feel his heart beat a little faster. Although it seemed that he had been transported to the same place, the place in question couldn't be any different.

Shadowmuir truly lived up to the name of the dark echo of the world.

Apart from the fact that this was a colorless world, Adam knew very little about it. The primary thing that he was glad about was that, unlike the spirit world, time in the Shadowmuir worked the same as in the material world.

Speaking of time… His expression turned even more grim as he glanced at his bare hands.

The more time he spent in the Shadowmuir, the more he was exposed to the dark magic permeating this colorless world.

It would not take long. Eventually, it would seep into him. It would taint him. And once that happened, there was no going back. Even now, when he glanced at his bare hands, he could feel it. It was faint, but it was unmistakable.

Slowly, but surely, he was being eroded by the magic of Shadowmuir!

To this world, he was an outsider. And so, it could do only one of two things to him: reject him, or remake him.

Dragonshit, he cursed indignantly.

He hadn't expected to be brought here, especially when the battle in the material world was getting so intense.

Finding a way back to the material world was certainly possible, but that would take time. This was the first time he had come to Shadowmuir, and he didn't know where exactly this world was located.

It was different from the material world. Its natural laws were completely foreign to him. But as long as he had something — or someone — anchoring him to the material world, he could find a way back.

But again… that would take time.

"Noticed it already?"

A cold voice echoed around him.

Adam instantly went on high alert. He turned toward the source of the sound, his eyes narrowing.

Rekan stood in the distance, hands clasped calmly behind him. The corner of his lips curled upward in a mocking smile.

"Even if we do nothing to you, the world will take care of you," he said as more and more shadowkins appeared behind him.

"We don't even have to kill you ourselves," he added. The devils behind him slowly started to fan out and surround Adam.

"But something tells me… if you were to be left all by yourself, you'd eventually unravel how the Shadowmuir is connected to the spirit world. Once you find the connection, you'd be able to teleport. And when that happens, you'd find your way back home. Isn't that right?"

Adam's expression turned utterly solemn. He scanned the malicious faces of the devils surrounding him. His grip on the daggers tightened as he took up a combat stance.

"You think too highly of me," he said in a low voice.

"I do." Rekan agreed. "After all, didn't you claim to one day become an Emperor. How can I not think highly of you?"

For the first time in a very long time, a hint of nervousness crept inside Adam's heart as he faced his opponents.

Shadowkins were significantly stronger and faster when they were in the Shadowmuir. Moreover, their spells were also enhanced.

Adam, on the other hand, was in an unfavourable situation. He had to constantly circulate the Five Elemental Codex and fight the magic of the Shadowmuir from tainting him. Moreover, he was unable to use the spirit world for teleportation or summoning magic.

It was as Rekan had said. Adam did not know of the natural laws of the Shadowmuir and how it connected to the spirit world. Until he understood that, he'd be unable to tap into the power of the spirit world.

As a Summoner without access to the spirit world, he was severely weakened in this world.

The Shadowmuir was a strange place with mysterious origins. It was vast and endless, but it was not a Plane of Existence. It wasn't situated anywhere in the material world.

And it most certainly wasn't situated inside the enigmatic spirit world like the Underworld that Necromancers were connected to or the Coil of Eternity that Adam had signed a pact with.

It simply was.

It was quite literally the reflection of the material world. Except it was dark and colorless. Adam's lack of understanding of this world put him at a serious disadvantage.

But of course, he was not entirely out of options. He had his physical combat skills he could rely on. Although any magic related to light, for example, light magic or fire magic, would be weakened in this world.

However, he did have something in his arsenal that would be amplified here…

Mana erupted from his core and gathered in his hands. Then he willed the mana to coat the blades. His mana gradually turned dark. As dark as his surroundings. And under the natural laws of this world, his magic grew stronger.

The moment Rekan's gaze locked onto the black energy wrapped around Adam's daggers, his eyes narrowed.

"Shadow magic," he muttered in slight surprise. "So you're versed in this art as well."

The following moment, his aura erupted. The shadows around him grew stronger and darker, distorting the very air itself. Just from the presence alone, he appeared significantly stronger than he was back in the material world. The same held true for the other shadowkins.

"But it's not nearly as good as ours."

Even before the last of his words escaped his lips, Rekan had already disappeared and arrived before the Dark King.

Adam was instantly overwhelmed by the combined strength of Rekan and ten other shadowkins. The sound of their battle thundered across the shadowed lands.

And soon…

Dark creatures of the Shadowmuir were drawn by the commotion!
