Chapter 1780 Two Sovereigns

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

For a moment that seemed to stretch on till infinity, neither the Hidden Ruler nor the Proud Sun made the first move.

To both of them, it seemed like making the first move was beneath them. For if they did so, that would somehow make them the challenger in this matchup.

Such was the arrogance ingrained within the two sovereigns.

Due to the mana extraction technique Lucian practiced, his aura was golden and brilliant like the sun. He radiated warmth and glory. But underneath that layer was a dangerous enigma ready to burn everything in his path.

He had found this arcane manual during his travels in his youth and practiced it to the extremes. Unlike the first two Acadian Emperors, who were Summoners, Lucian pursued the School of Invocation.

The Proud Sun had reached the limits of his arcane art. Or rather, the limits of this world. And now, it was time to put it to the test.

On the other hand, if there was one word that could be used to describe Tian Di's aura, then that would be... divine.

His was a mana extraction technique that he created all by himself after studying and analyzing the secret scriptures of all the sects and clans in Yen-Lu. Shaped by the culture of his homeland, he had even incorporated magic combat techniques into it.

The result was an arcane art that fused the two categories of the external mana system: magic spells and magic combat. And he did this all by himself. Such was the genius of Tian Di.

He was born on the battlefield. He lived for battle. And he knew that one day, he would die in battle. After having defeated all the top experts of Yen-Lu and even secretly ruling it from the shadows, he had lost interest in anything this world had to offer.

That was until he came face-to-face with the Proud Sun. With just a single glance, the Hidden Ruler knew that this man could provide him with the one thing that he had yearned for throughout his long and solitary life: thrill.

Seconds turned to minutes; however, neither side made the first move.

And yet, their battle had already begun.

Golden mana and platinum mana surged outward from their bodies before colliding violently in midair between them. The two immense forces crashed against one another like opposing tides, neither willing to yield even an inch.

Strong winds exploded across the battlefield as the surrounding earth began to crack apart beneath the pressure alone. Dust and debris were swept into the skies while the atmosphere grew heavy and distorted.

Even without physically moving, the clash between the two monsters had already begun.

Their mana clashed against one another ferociously, with neither side gaining the advantage. In that moment, both men felt the same thing…

In order to come out victorious, they had to go all out!

The following moment, both Magi withdrew their auras. The atmosphere abruptly shifted, and everything became eerily quiet. The violent battle between gold and platinum disappeared completely. Dust and debris floated in midair and then began their descent.

And then…

The Honored One and the Proud Sun disappeared from their spots, leaving shattered ground in their wake.

In the blink of an eye, they reappeared at the center of the battlefield and clashed.

BOOM!!

As their forearms collided, the ground beneath them completely caved in. The sheer force of the impact violently devastated the area behind them, forming gaping fissures and ravines across the earth.

The two Magi stood so close to one another that they could see their reflections within each other's eyes.

In Lucian's golden eyes, Tian Di saw himself smiling with excitement.

And within Tian Di's dark eyes, Lucian saw the very same excitement reflected back at him.

A split second later, the two of them pulled back.

Then, in the very next moment, they collided once more.

Thunderous shockwaves erupted across the battlefield as their fists met again and again and again.

Lucian's fist rapidly enlarged within Tian Di's vision, but the latter merely smiled as he tilted his body to the side and stepped forward.

In one fluid motion, he retaliated with a sharp chop aimed at the throat.

The Proud Sun did not flinch as he witnessed the opponent's mana-coated palm coming straight for his throat. There was enough power in that strike to completely obliterate his head. Yet he couldn't help but grin from ear to ear.

Oh, how long had it been since he had experienced the thrill of battle like this!

After he had become a Mana Core Magus, he had stood unrivaled. At the time, no one had been capable of defeating him.

Unmatched and unparalleled, the Proud Sun walked the lands.

But on this day…

He believed he had finally found someone worthy enough to challenge him.

His left hand shot out in a blur, almost too fast for the naked eye to perceive. In a split second, he blocked Tian Di's strike aimed at his throat.

At the same time, he adjusted his earlier strike — the right hook that Tian Di had just evaded — and seamlessly transformed it into a chop aimed at the man's neck.

Tian Di's grin widened even further. With his right hand tightly restrained by his opponent, his left hand instantly shot upward and accurately caught Lucian's right wrist.

The earth around them split apart even further from the mere shockwaves of that exchange.

23:20

In just a few short seconds, the two monsters had already traded dozens of blows. Fists, chops, grabs, counters, and feints flowed endlessly between them at speeds the naked eye could scarcely follow.

And yet, neither side gained the advantage.

The outcome?

Deadlock!

Lucian and Tian Di peered into each other's eyes and instantly understood the other's intent. At the exact same moment, both released their grip on one another's hands.

No words needed to be spoken.

They understood everything through the rhythm of battle.

The two experts deeply gazed at one another before silently nodding. Then they turned around and began walking away, completely unconcerned about the possibility of the other using underhanded tactics to strike from behind.

Such things were beneath both of them.

After walking for a few dozen meters from one another, they finally came to a stop and turned back around.

Their gazes met once more, and the signal was exchanged.

Then, both rapidly began weaving hand seals, their movements so fast that their hands nearly vanished from sight.

And then…

Both unleashed their magic.
