Chapter 1793 Darkness Below

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

"Come on!"

Adam gritted his teeth in frustration as the monster was almost upon him.

He could forget about fully healing the gaping wound across his torso for now. First, that would require him to divert all his attention toward performing the regeneration. It was time-consuming, to say the least.

Secondly, and more importantly, he would rather utilize the remaining mana reserves toward attacking his enemies. After all, the best form of defense was offense.

Besides, his injury was going to heal passively over time, anyway. If there was something that he really needed to do, it was to deal with the necrotic energy currently festering in his wounds.

With no time left to prepare for a spell, Adam could only reluctantly retreat. His eyes spewed venom as they locked onto the other monster, who was faithfully guarding the lich's unmoving body.

He had not expected these undead servants to be so perceptive. If both of them had charged at him, he could have easily drawn them away and then swiftly finished off the Cult Leader. He had gone through so much just now to leave the lich in such a miserable state.

But one of the four-headed monsters choosing to stay beside its master had completely changed the situation.

As the raven-haired youth circulated his mana around the gaping wound to deal with the necrotic energy, the monster had already reached within attack range.

The violent barrage of fists came crashing down on him. He managed to dodge the first few strikes, but the relentless assault quickly overwhelmed him. Even so, he desperately protected the massive wound across his chest, making sure that none of the monster's attacks landed directly on it.

What followed next was a game of cat and mouse. Without the slightest regard for pride and honor, Adam turned and fled across the crater, narrowly escaping the monster's relentless assault. All the while, he continued to focus on suppressing the necrotic energy.

With his blood naturally fighting the foreign substance and his mana proactively suppressing the necrotic energy, it did not take him long to completely purge it from his body.

At last, he stopped running.

He then turned around and faced the monster, his expression twisting into a scowl. In the next heartbeat, he bolted straight toward the creature.

Before long, the two were right in front of each other. Adam was utterly solemn as three of the monster's humongous fists rapidly filled his vision. His Sphere of Resonance worked on overdrive, every movement around him becoming unnaturally clear. Just as the fists were about to pummel him, he nimbly leapt over the monster.

Twisting his body midair, he looked down and saw the creature's attacks moving almost in slow motion, smashing into the spot where he had just stood a split second earlier. He then swiped his fingers.

Winds of Emanation!

Three invisible blades shot forward and instantly severed three of the monster's arms.

Adam performed a somersault over the monster and gracefully landed behind it. But before his feet even touched the ground, he swiped his hand once more.

This time, he launched a very thick and sharp Wind of Emanation toward the back of the monster's knees.

In the following moment, cold black blood erupted from the monster's legs. However, the limbs were too massive and muscular for Adam's spell to sever them completely. But he had already accomplished his goal.

Three of the monster's arms were severed, and now, a deep cut marred the back of its knees. The monster's legs buckled beneath its own weight, forcing the massive creature to crash down on the charred ground.

But Adam was far from finished.

His hands turned into a blur as he quickly weaved one seal after another. Then his hands shot forward, and they clenched into fists.

Following that, the ground beneath the monster violently trembled. And then, it erupted upward before encasing half of its body in hardened earth and completely rendering it immobile.

He weaved another simple hand seal as he stepped closer. Then, with a fierce look on his face, he pressed his hand against the monster's back and coldly spat:

"Fuck off from here."

The outline of an enormous arched gate materialized around the abomination. It must have sensed grave danger because it began to thrash around desperately, trying to free itself from earthen restraints.

But it was already too late.

As soon as the gate fully materialized, it solidified and revealed a portal leading to the depths of the mysterious spirit world. In the next moment, the monster was wrenched right through the gate as if pulled by an invisible hand. Soon, the space folded in on itself, and the portal flickered out of existence. Only after the monster had been exiled did Adam finally release a long breath of relief.

One down. One to go, he thought to himself as he slowly turned toward the center of the crater.

And then I can finally—

But his thoughts froze abruptly, and his eyes widened.

At the center of the crater, there was only the remaining four-headed abomination. And it was guarding…

No one.

Where did he—

Even before he could form that thought, the answer became painfully clear to him as intense alarm bells thundered inside his mind.

A gust of wind swept past him, and then he felt a dark, ominous, and utterly mad presence appear directly behind him. He didn't need to turn around to know who it was. He already knew.

Unbeknownst to Adam, the moment he exiled the four-headed abomination into the spirit world, the connection between the creature and the lich had been severed.

That single interruption was enough. The illusion trapping the Cult Leader's mind instantly destabilized. Cracks spread through the mental prison restraining him, and in the next moment, the lich forcibly tore himself free.

Adam's heart sank as overwhelming murderous intent crashed down on him. In that moment, he realized that the lich had completely lost his mind. Without hesitation, he immediately tried to teleport away.

But the Cult Leader was faster.

A deafening roar erupted from the lich's jaws as he slammed his gauntleted fist down toward the youth.

BAM!!!

Adam's skull nearly caved in from the attack. If it wasn't for his sturdy physique, he was certain that the lich's attack would have shattered his head completely.

Even so, the blow still devastated him. His brain slammed violently against the inside of his skull, and his senses instantly faded into chaos.

Then, the lich's mana-coated fists came crashing down on him one after another. Boom! Boom! Boom!

The ground beneath Adam's motionless body shattered repeatedly, sinking deeper and deeper with every monstrous strike.

All the while, the crazed lich continued screaming the same words over and over again.

"The Beyond! The Beyond! The Beyond!"

But seeing that Adam's body stubbornly refused to turn into a mangled corpse, the flames in the lich's sockets flared with unprecedented intensity. And in his rage-driven madness, he did the one thing he never should have done.

The one thing that went against all the planning and effort he had invested into acquiring Adam's body.

He tried to kill him truly.

The lich roared at the top of his lungs and cast a spell.

His shadow rapidly deepened, darkened, and extended outward, completely engulfing both himself and the youth.

In the next instant, the two plunged into the darkness below.

Their destination?

The Underworld!
