Chapter 1824 What is a Magus?

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Twenty years after the great war, the gates of the Constantine Institute of Magic finally opened to the world.

The entire world has been buzzing with news of the academy founded by the Dark King himself. It had been advertised as the greatest institute of arcane learning ever established.

Located in Constantine City, a place that had become the magical heart of the world due to its extraordinary concentration of mana, the institution drew the attention of every nation and faction.

Expectations soared through the skies. After all, this was not merely another academy. It was the personal project of the Hero of the Great World War.

Students, scholars, Magi, nobles, and adventurers from every corner of the world set thier sights upon it. Some sought knowledge. Some sought power. Some sought connections. Whatever their reasons, they all shared one belief…

The Constantine Institute of Magic would shape the future of the world.

After several rounds of rigorous examinations, the first batch of students had finally entered the campus. A thousand of them, all fifteen years of age, stood excitedly within the grand central square.

Before them, gathered upon the broad staircase of one of the Institute's countless magnificent buildings, stood the faculty members personally selected by the Dark King. Every one of them was a veteran of the Great World War, individuals whose names were known throughout the world.

Then, the giant doors behind them slowly creaked open. The square fell silent. A collective gasp escaped the students and their families, who had gathered along the edges of the square.

A figure emerged from within.

The Dark King had finally arrived!

The years had done little to diminish his presence. Dressed in simple black robes and a pointed hat, he walked forward calmly with a gentle smile on his youthful face.

An air of mystery seemed to follow him wherever he went.

For many of the children present, this was the first time they had ever seen him in person.

The legendary hero. The founder of the Constantine Institute of Magic. And now, the first headmaster of the most prestigious academy in the world.

Thousands of eyes followed his every movement as he stepped onto the staircase and gazed upon the sea of eager young faces before him.

Silence gradually reigned upon the grand square. Everyone waited for him to speak.

Adam slipped into silence, his lips curling into a nostalgic smile. He recalled a time long ago, when he had been nothing more than a young boy arriving at Clover Academy after braving countless dangers.

Back then, he had stood exactly where these children stood now — filled with awe, anticipation, and dreams of the future.

In the blink of an eye, decades had passed. He was almost a hundred years old now.

The little boy from Behal, who had once gazed upon Magi with admiration, now stood before a sea of hopeful students from all over the world, ready to welcome them into a new chapter of their lives.

"What is a Magus?" He whispered softly.

Nevertheless, his voice echoed in the ears of all those gathered before him.

"A thousand different Magi might answer that question in a thousand different ways," he continued with the same gentle smile.

"I'll tell you mine… A Magus is someone who never gives up."

His warm gaze scanned all the children in the square.

"I will be honest with you. Life will not be smooth sailing. It rarely is. You will always face obstacles, insurmountable hurdles that would make you want to quit. Whether in the classroom or out there in the real world, challenges will always find you.

"You must have the courage to face them. It is okay to fail. Trust me, I've failed many times myself. Without failures, you will never truly succeed. It is how you respond to failures that defines who you are. You fail today, you try again tomorrow. You fail tomorrow, you try again the day after. But you must keep trying."

Adam could see tears forming in some of the children's eyes. They were moved by his words. Truly moved.

"So, my dear students," he said fondly. "If you have perseverance in your heart, there is no mountain you cannot climb."

He raised his arms wide and said the words that the children were dying to hear.

"Welcome to the Constantine Institute of Magic."

The square erupted in cheers. The children cried tears of joy, while proud parents looked on with smiles of their own.

And just like that, the greatest institute of magical learning in the world welcomed its first batch of students.

The Headmaster's Office stood at the very heart of the campus, occupying the highest floor of the Institute's central tower.

The office was vast and elegant without being extravagant. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the sprawling grounds of the Constantine Institute of Magic, offering a breathtaking view of its gardens, buildings, and the great ash tree in the distance.

"That was a wonderful speech, Headmaster."

A woman with black hair and orange streaks nodded in approval. She was the assistant to the Headmaster and someone whom Adam had known since she was a little girl.

Soon, her brows creased, and her vibrant orange eyes couldn't help but glance at the raven-haired youth with helplessness.

"Should you really be drinking wine so early in the morning?"

Adam placed the now-empty gourd on the table and sighed with satisfaction. He turned to look at his assistant and laughed.

"Oh, little Autumn," he said mischievously. "This isn't wine. It's merely water and fermented grapes."

Autumn Godsaint rolled her eyes.

"Anyway, are those folks here?" Adam's eyes sharpened, his mind now clear of the fog of intoxication.

"Yes, Headmaster." Autumn nodded as she glanced at the topmost parchment on the notepad she held. "They're waiting for you in the meeting room."

"Very well." Adam rose to his feet and headed for the door. "Let's get going."

"You might want to put on some perfume, Headmaster." Autumn quickly followed behind him. "You're reeking of water and fermented grapes."

"Cheeky brat!"

***

A few minutes later, Adam pushed open the doors to a vast, circular chamber.

Inside, seated around a round marble table, were some of the most powerful Magi on this planet.

All of them were veterans of the Great World War.

As well as people who would be venturing into the Greater Universe…
