Chapter 1869: Long Road Ahead

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Adam walked through the cobbled streets of North Borough.

It had been three days since he met up with the folks from the Twilight Brotherhood. That was a lot of time to think about certain things — especially his future.

The fact that the Brotherhood was reduced to a mere shadow of its former self made him feel sad for some reason.

Perhaps it was because he had high expectations, but was ultimately disappointed. Or maybe it was that he very much disliked seeing that the organization he looked up to was reduced to such a state.

Either way, it was not a good feeling.

He walked under the shade of palm trees planted along the footpath. Men and women in well-dressed clothes passed him by, but he did not pay them any attention.

Hands tucked away comfortably inside his pockets, he absentmindedly walked to his destination.

He raised his head, his gaze landing on the breathtaking night canvas of Myrrandor. He couldn’t help but sigh.

I thought I could get a solid backing if I joined the Brotherhood, he mused.

Who would have thought that it would be in such a state? It’s still a strong faction, but...

I don’t know what I was expecting.

Perhaps the fault lay with him. He was too enamored by the prospect of joining this organization in a new world. So much so that he had involuntarily set up high expectations.

Then again, perhaps it was not a bad thing entirely.

A weaker Brotherhood meant fewer rules, less oversight, and more freedom.

Besides, the primary reason Adam had joined the order was that he was interested in getting his hands on the historical records of this world.

One of the tenets of the Twilight Brotherhood was to preserve wisdom, after all.

It’s not all bad, he thought as his lips subconsciously curled into a smile.

The Adventurers’ Guild to explore the world and gain expereince.

The Herbalists’ Guild to sell potions and establish a steady source of income.

And the Twilight Brotherhood to deepen my understanding of the history of this world.

The more Adam thought about it, the more reasonable the arrangement seemed. No single organization would become his foundation. Instead, he would take what each had to offer.

Knowledge. Experience. Money. Connections.

Step by step, he would build his own foundation in this new world. And once he established a proper foothold and advanced his arcane station a few more ranks, he would finally sail among the stars and visit other worlds.

The Mana Core Rank was merely the minimum requirement for interstellar travel. It granted passage, but not safety. The dangers lurking on distant worlds — and even Myrrandor, for that matter — cared little for such a qualification.

As such, Adam intended to steadily increase his strength before venturing beyond Myrrandor.

Besides, he first wished to explore his new homeworld.

Based on his understanding of this world so far, the West Coast alone possessed a greater landmass than Europa, Indus, and Yen-Lu combined!

And the West Coast was merely one corner of Centerra.

Beyond it, in the south, stretched a vast region with ancient ruins, untamed wilderness, fallen empires, and countless mysteries waiting to be uncovered.

At its heart lay the Shattered Sea, around which rose some of the continent’s greatest kingdoms and cities. To the east flourished powerful nations, ancient cultures, and lands steeped in history.

And to the north lay the most mysterious region of them all. There, the Great Wall stood like a colossal barrier, separating the known world from the frozen wastes, ancient and unknown dangers, and mysteries older than history.

For now, the stars could wait. There was an entire world beneath his feet waiting to be explored.

A faint sense of anticipation stirred within him. For the first time since arriving in Myrrandor, he felt as though his future was beginning to take shape.

There was still a long road ahead.

He needed to become stronger.

Much stronger.

By the time he emerged from his thoughts, he had already arrived at his destination.

Before him stood a modest, two-story manor. At first glance, it appeared plain and understated. Yet a closer look revealed the considerable wealth that had gone into its construction.

The stonework was immaculate, the windows fitted with expensive glass, and the gardens carefully maintained. It was a place that did not flaunt its wealth, but quietly displayed it nevertheless.

Looks like there’s a lot of money to be made in exploring ancient ruins, huh? Adam couldn’t help but wonder.

Or perhaps, he’s one of the few cases that made it big. Most just end up dying?

Yes, that sounds about right.

A pair of guards stood watch at the iron gates. The moment Adam approached, both men straightened.

One stepped forward and raised a hand.

"State your name and business."

Adam snapped out of his thoughts, then turned his gaze to the guard. He answered with a faint smile:

"Adam Constantine. I was invited for dinner by—"

The guard immediately perked up.

"Ah, yes! Magus Constantine. Welcome, welcome!"

His stern demeanor vanished at once. The iron gates swung open, and a well-dressed butler promptly emerged from the manor.

"Magus Constantine," the elderly man said with a respectful bow. "If you would follow me."

Adam nodded and stepped through the gates.

The butler led him along a stone pathway lined with trimmed hedges and carefully tended flowerbeds before guiding him through the manor’s front doors.

Without wasting another moment, the butler escorted Adam deeper into the residence. Up the stairs, he guided the youth toward the study.

Even before they arrived, Adam could hear the muffled sound of conversation from within. Through his senses, he also detected several presences. A few of them were familiar.

The butler stopped before a polished wooden door and knocked twice. The chatter inside immediately died down.

"Magus Constantine," the butler announced.

A pleasant, elderly voice from within replied:

"He’s finally here! Send him in."

The butler opened the door and stepped aside.

Adam inclined his head toward the butler, then entered the room.

The study was spacious and warmly lit. Several people had gathered around a large table, their attention immediately shifting toward the newcomer.

"Haha, young man. You made it!"

Esmond Greene’s booming voice echoed in the study as he strode toward Adam and greeted him with a bear hug.

"Come, come. We were just discussing the expedition."

Adam’s gaze swept across the people in the room before settling on a familiar face.

Auburn hair and light blue eyes.

As their eyes met, both smiled.

"Good evening, Magus Constantine."

Genevieve offered a charming smile.

Adam returned it with a slight bow.

"And a very good evening to you, Miss Saint Laurent."

A flash of gray light.

Valerian abruptly appeared, poking his head out of Adam’s tunic. He looked around curiously before his gaze landed on the familiar old man.

"Myu!"

"Haha!" Esmond laughed out loud. "Welcome, Valerian! Welcome to my home!"

The old man tried to pat the little fellow on the head, but Valerian deftly dodged the hand and climbed Adam’s shoulder.

Perched there, he gracefully licked a paw while casting everyone in the room a thoroughly judgmental look, as though everyone except his dear big brother was beneath him.

When Genevieve’s gaze landed on the gray cat, she let out a soft gasp.

So cute!
