Chapter 1915: Crashing A Wedding

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

[Blades of Emanation]

Several invisible wind blades cut through the air, accurately striking the group of monsters trailing behind Adam.

The spell cleanly passed through their grotesque bodies, slicing them into several pieces. Then it proceeded unhindered for several meters and bore into the thick hides of wolves.

Blood sprayed in the air and a cacophony of screams and wails descended on the streets.

Adam did not look back. He continued to run. There were monsters behind him, in front of him, and beside him.

They were everywhere!

He had severely underestimated just how packed the city would be. Every street, every nook and cranny, was brimming with all kinds of mutated monsters.

There were wolves, and that too, a large variety of them. Wolves with bones sticking out of their back, wolves that could glide through the skies, wolves that could spew flames, and wolves that could hurl poison from their mouth.

These were the most territorial of them all. Any time Adam set foot into their territory, he was besieged by the whole pack.

His Sphere of Resonance working on overdrive, he quickly killed several monsters, evaded the ferocious attacks of several more, and then finally scaled a three-story building.

He thought he could gather himself on the terrace of the building, but sadly for him, he did not even get a moment of respite. The moment he climbed the roof, an ominous tune echoed in his ears.

Adam felt the hair on the back of his neck stand on end. He turned toward the center of the roof, his eyes slowly widening.

A couple danced joyfully, without a care in the world.

The woman wore a white dress, one that brides would wear to their weddings. Meanwhile, the groom wore a silk, black ceremonial robe. Their clothes were prim and proper, and their movements were gentle and classy.

They would have looked like the perfect couple...

If they weren’t missing their heads.

Sensing Adam’s arrival, the bride and groom stopped dancing and slowly turned toward him.

The raven-haired youth subconsciously took a step back. He never imagined he’d be crashing a wedding in this accursed city.

The man and woman appeared to be harmless. Just another headless couple. But his senses thundered like warning bells inside his mind.

Without hesitation, he turned and prepared to flee.

BAM!

He didn’t know what happened.

Neither did he know what hit him.

Adam wasn’t able to sense anyone on that terrace aside from the eerie couple. But something had hit him. It had hit him with the weight of a mountain.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

He crashed through several buildings, reducing them into fireworks of stone and rubble and dust.

Warm blood gushed from his mouth, and he grimaced in sheer pain. That attack just now had fractured at least a few ribs on his left side.

His body was flung through the air like a broken rag doll. He finally came to a stop as he crashed into the fourth building. His battered body hit the wall, and he miserably slid to the ground, wheezing for air.

The impact knocked the wind out of him, leaving him struggling to breathe for several moments. Through his blurred vision, he saw droplets of his own blood floating through the air or slithering across the ground toward him, merging back into his body.

He inhaled a large mouthful of air. His ribs still hurt, and his lung might have been pierced by bones. Adam grimaced as he thought back to the attack on the terrace.

A chill ran down his spine as only one possibility emerged in his mind.

Mana Seed Rank! That thing... it has to be—

His thoughts came to a halt when a group of long, ominous shadows fell upon him.

"Hello, friend. Would you like to have some tea with us?"

Adam’s lips slowly curled into a grin. He lifted his head, his gaze settling on the half-dozen men and women with pale skin and black-within-black eyes.

It seemed these sick, mutated ghouls had been having a tea party. His sudden arrival had drawn them to their feet. Each held a ceramic cup, but the liquid inside wasn’t tea.

It was blood.

"Ugh." Adam grimaced as he slowly rose to his feet.

"How polite of you," he said with a broad smile. "I would love to join you for some tea."

Even as he said those words, he could sense dozens of monsters rapidly surrounding the building. His thoughts churned rapidly as he tried to find a way out of this bloody nightmare.

The ghouls looked at one another and exchanged puzzled glances. One of them, a male with neatly combed brown hair, stepped forward and said, "Mister, you’re strange."

"That’s rude," Adam murmured.

He saw shadows prowling outside the building. The monsters were upon him. And so were the damned ghouls.

Adam’s grin widened even more, and he rapidly cast his spell.

[Gravity Repulsion]

He thrust both hands outwards. Space rippled around him before gravity exploded in every direction. With him at the center, every monster was hurled away in a perfect 360-degree shockwave.

Adam didn’t waste a second. He burst through the window and into a shadowy alley.

But a pack of red-furred wolves spotted him and charged into the narrow passage after him.

"Dragonshit!" he cursed aloud as he reached the dead end. With nowhere else to run, he turned around and pressed his back against the wall.

Dropping into a fighting stance, he prepared to make his stand.

"Come, then," he growled menacingly.

The wolf pack bared their fangs and ferociously charged at him. As the first beast pounced, it passed straight through Adam as though he were incorporeal, then slammed into the wall. One after another, the wolves crashed into the dead end.

As for Adam, his body had already dissipated into gray smoke.

[True Illusion]

His real body was a block away. Adam had used his illusory self as a diversion to finally escape the relentless onslaught of monsters.

He now found himself inside a dilapidated house that was surprisingly empty. He had scanned the two-story building and confirmed there was no one inside. The windows and doors were broken, so he couldn’t hang the talismans here.

But he could at least rest for a few moments.

His body collapsed to the floor, and he leaned against the wall. Closing his eyes, he turned his senses inward, examining the damage to his lung and fractured ribs.

Above him, a portrait of a woman in a black gown hung on the wall, silently watching over the house. She had a gentle smile on her face.

It’s not that bad, Adam thought.

He guided his mana toward his fractured ribs, but focused mainly on healing his punctured lung.

So he never noticed the portrait above him stir.

The woman in the painting looked down at Adam, her gentle smile twisting into a savage grin.

Then her hand shot out of the canvas and viciously seized Adam’s shoulder before dragging him into the painting.
