As the crimson moon glided across the night sky, the desperate wails originating from the depths of the sun temple did not cease. The Antlered High Priest, who had been confident that the offering would appease the sun god, found doubt creep into his mind.
"Why... why... why?"
The werewolf stood before Adam, his glassy eyes intently studying the human.
"What... are... you?"
Due to the sheer intensity of the torture Adam had gone through, he was barely conscious. The only time he was conscious was, in fact, when spikes and iron were being stabbed into him.
He had believed pain was an old friend. A friend that he had encountered many times in the past. A friend that he didn’t feel intimidated by.
But this... this was a new kind of friend.
His eyelids felt as though they carried the weight of a mountain. They fluttered, and his gaze locked onto the dumbfounded high priest standing there in front of him like an idiot.
"Heh." His lips slowly curled into a wide grin. "What’s the matter... cunt!"
The high priest remained silent.
He watched Adam’s body, pierced by over a dozen long pikes, drenched in scalding water that burned his skin, his stomach carved open as blood streamed down his legs and dripped into the large bowl below
The bowl should have been filled by now, given that Adam’s body was being drained of blood for the past twelve hours or so.
And yet...
The blood inside the bowl magically rose into the air as if guided by an unseen force. It flowed back over his legs, seeped into every wound, and returned to his body.
By all rights, Adam should have bled to death by now. Yet every drop of blood taken from him always found its way back. Surely. Inevitably.
The high priest tilted his head, puzzled.
"You... can... talk?"
Adam grinned.
"Come, little pup. Let’s get this over with. Do your worst."
The Antlered High Priest blinked. He stepped forward, his hand shooting out in a blur as he clasped Adam’s jaws.
Crack! Crack!
Adam’s eyes widened, and a muffled scream of agony escaped his lips.
The werewolf pressed his jaw tighter together, allowing him to see the inside of the human’s mouth.
And just as he’d suspected... Adam’s tongue was intact!
"...How?"
The werewolf turned his gaze toward the floor, looking for the piece of tongue that he’d slashed earlier in the night.
He stepped back, turned around, and searched intently. But the tongue was nowhere to be seen.
"It... returned," he speculated. "But... how?"
Indeed, it had. Just like how Adam’s blood had mysteriously returned to him, so had his tongue. The process, however, was far more complex and consumed an enormous amount of mana.
This was something even Adam hadn’t known was possible.
From what he had managed to observe between fleeting moments of consciousness, his severed tongue had slowly decomposed before fading away into thin air. No, not thin air. It had vanished and gone... somewhere. Where, Adam had no idea.
As the last trace of it disappeared, the tongue began to regrow inside his mouth.
For several moments, the werewolf simply stood there, wondering just what was going on. But then, he realized something.
This was good.
This was very good.
The harder it was to break the victim, the better the offering to the sun god!
"Ah..." the high priest moaned. "Praise... the... sun!"
Adam suddenly felt a chill crawl down his spine. As he watched the werewolf step closer to him, he shuddered. Eyes wide in horror, he blurted out:
"Hey! Hey! What’re you trying to—GAAHHH!"
The high priest’s hands shot forward, and he viciously took out all the iron spikes embedded into Adam’s torso. Blood spilled from the gaping wounds, dripping like a waterfall into the bowl.
Adam greeted his teeth, tears trickling down his face. "My hands... my hands... free my hands!"
But of course, the high priest wasn’t stupid enough to unpin Adam from the stone wall.
No, he only needed his torso clear of all the iron spikes.
Task accomplished, he brought his hands together and sincerely offered a prayer.
"Priase... the... sun!"
And then, he thrust his clawed hands straight into Adam’s stomach. With a sharp pull, he raked them apart in opposite directions.
Adam’s eyes rolled back as a scream tore through his throat, so raw that his voice began to give out.
This time, it wasn’t only blood that spilled out into the bowl below.
His entrails followed.

"Sun’s about to set, Cap’n. Let’s camp here for the night. We’ll leave in the morning."
One of the scouts looked outside the window and reported.
Daerona and her men had returned from the wilds, having completed whatever mission they had been sent for. They had only just reached one of the safehouses that concealed a tunnel leading outside.
The elf sighed. "Very well."
The hunting party was out of rations. However, they were used to working on fasted states. They’d just have to go without food for another twelve hours. That was no big deal. At least, they still had enough water.
Just as the sun set and the monsters poured onto the streets, Daerona and her group prepared to rest — or at least get whatever sleep they could amid the endless shrieks and the howls.
Then, a chilling melody drifted through the air.
The Paladins jerked up, their heads snapping toward the source of sound, their eyes widening in shock and horror.
Daerona had a grim look on her face as she murmured, "The cursed choir."
One of the men replied in a shaky voice, "Looks like someone unfortunate got trapped in the temple."
The stone angels sang their hymn whenever the Antlered High Priest tortured a victim and prepared the next day’s sacrifice.
They would not stop singing until the victim was ready to be offered to their lord and savior, the sun god.
Another Paladin sighed, "Whoever it is, they’ll hardly last a few hours."
"Hey, Cap’n, do you think it’s that kid with the Brand?"
Daerona shook her head as Adam’s features resurfaced in her mind. "I don’t know."
She changed the subject. "Get rest. We’ll leave in the morning."
The moon slipped below the horizon, and the sun was about to rise once again.
Yet throughout the night, the angels hadn’t stopped singing. Only when morning arrived did their hymn finally fall silent, giving way to prayers offered to their god.
Daerona and her men were truly astonished. Someone had somehow managed to survive the high priest’s torture for an entire night.
Little did they know...
This was already the fourth day.
