Chapter 2030: Mana Conservation

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Adam gracefully landed on the ground, his robes fluttering softly.

Janet’s headless corpse fell beside him. For a brief moment, the battlefield fell silent.

The surviving monsters stared at the gruesome sight in stunned horror. Some remained impaled upon stone spikes, while others lay frozen in place, their eyes filled with terror.

Adam glanced at them with a slightly bored look on his face.

His hands blurred into hand seals again, and he cast another spell in less than a blink of an eye.

[Raging Hurricane]

Dozens of [Wind Blades] swirled inside the hurricane at rapid speed. The next moment, they shot outward in every direction.

The forest erupted into a storm of compressed blades of wind. Trees were sliced apart, the ground was viciously carved, and the remaining monsters had no time to react.

One after another, their bodies were torn apart by the raging wind. Those who tried to flee were cut down before they could take more than a few steps.

Screams echoed through the forest for several long seconds.

And then... silence.

Adam slowly lowered his hands. The winds faded and the dust settled. And once again, the forest returned to silence.

He looked over the carnage with satisfaction.

This battle had been important. Since advancing to the Mana Seed Rank, he had yet to truly test the extent of his newfound strength in actual battle.

He didn’t count his "battle" with the Antlered High Priest to really be a battle. In truth, he had simply woven a highly potent illusion inside the fractured mind of a creature that had already turned mad.

But this fight was different.

Fighting Janet, Echo, and almost a hundred other creatures at once had given him precisely the opportunity he needed. Not to mention, he only used spells and not his physical strength. And the results pleased him.

He could feel the difference clearly. His spellcasting had become smoother. Mana flowed from his Mana Seed with remarkable ease, coursing through his body and responding to his commands almost instinctively. The spells he cast felt more natural than before, requiring less effort to maintain and manipulate.

More importantly, his mana conservation had been exceptional. Adam had cast a good number of spells during the battle, yet the amount of mana he had expended was far less than he had initially expected.

His Mana Seed was already beginning to reveal its advantages.

The corner of his lips curled into a faint smile, and he murmured, "Not bad. Not bad at all."

He began walking through the devastated battlefield, inspecting one corpse after another. He carefully searched through the bodies of the vampires, ghouls, and other monsters, looting anything of value they carried. Anything even remotely useful was taken.

As he continued through the battlefield, Adam suddenly heard something beyond the blue barrier.

Caw! Caw! Caw!

The cries of countless ravens echoed through the forest. Adam glanced toward the barrier surrounding the battlefield, and his grey eyes gleamed.

With a simple hand seal, the barrier came undone.

The shimmering dome gradually dissolved into countless particles of blue light. The moment it disappeared, the unkindness of ravens swarmed into the woods.

Caw! Caw! Caw!

Their ominous cries echoed through the forest as they circled high above Adam, their crimson eyes fixed upon him.

Adam merely looked up.

Then he gathered mana within himself while weaving a series of hand seals. A moment later, he exhaled fiercely.

[Gale Blast]

Violent bursts of wind erupted into the air.

Several ravens were caught in the attack before they could react. Their bodies burst into sprays of blood as black feathers scattered through the air and slowly drifted toward the ground. The remaining ravens immediately scattered in fright.

Only a handful managed to escape the sudden attack, fleeing toward the distant fortress.

Watching the scene, Adam scoffed. He purposely allowed a few of them to escape. After all, he didn’t know if the memories of the ravens were transmitted to the one controlling them if they died.

After making sure he had looted all the corpses, he casually began walking toward the dark fortress in the distance.

The sisters had lived a long time. They were sure to have some interesting treasures in the vault.

At least, that’s what Adam hoped.

Deep within Castle de Vile, Jacob stood alone inside a vast chamber.

The room was ancient and imposing, its towering stone walls covered in faded carvings that had survived the passage of thousands of years. Yet Jacob paid none of them any attention.

His crimson eyes were focused entirely on the floor. A vast runic formation had been carved into the black stone.

One hundred and seven rectangular slabs had been arranged in a perfect circle around the chamber. At the very center stood the one hundred and eighth.

Each slab was engraved with intricate runes and symbols, their meaning obscure and mysterious. Thin channels connected them all, forming a complex network that converged upon the central slab.

Above the formation, the ceiling had been deliberately left open.

Far above, the crimson moon hung in the night sky. Its eerie light poured down through the opening, bathing the chamber in a blood-red glow.

Jacob stood at the edge of the formation, silently studying the finer details of the formation.

Suddenly, a raven flew into the chamber. Its black wings flapped softly as it descended from above, gracefully landing upon Jacob’s shoulder.

The Vampire King closed his eyes.

For several moments, he remained completely still. The raven whispered its intelligence directly into his mind.

When Jacob finally opened his eyes, they had turned cold.

His lips parted and he called out in a flat tone:

"Holstein. Kayne."

The shadows behind him stirred. A few moments later, two figures emerged from the darkness and dropped to their knees.

One was enormous and burly, possessing a body more suited to a beast than man. The other was short and lithe, his slender figure almost disappearing within the shadows.

Neither dared raise their heads. They patiently waited.

Jacob did not turn around. His gaze remained fixed upon the runic formation in front of him.

"Go to the Leroux Fortress," he said. "Bring me the head of the human there."

The two kneeling figures lowered their heads.

"Yes, Your Majesty."

The next moment, their bodies dissolved into shadows.

The chamber returned to silence. Jacob de Vile remained standing beside the formation. After a few moments, he stepped closer to the central slab, his fingers gently tracing the runes etched on it.

Beneath the crimson light of the moon, the Vampire King returned to studying the formation.
