Midnight arrived soon enough. The two sides prepared for battle. On one side stood the adventurers, their weapons drawn and armor prepared. The Councilors stood at the forefront, leading the gathered forces into battle.
Opposite them stood the vampire army. Jacob's Generals stood among them, their crimson eyes hungrily gazing across the battlefield as countless vampires waited for the order to attack.
Adam's illusory figure remained silent throughout it all, walking quietly in Luca's shadow. No one suspected a thing. To everyone watching, he was simply another figure standing beside the adventurers. The only difference was, he didn't talk at all.
Both sides were ready, at last.
The battlefield fell into an eerie silence. Then, somewhere in the distance, a solitary raven spread its wings and let out a single, ominous cry.
Caw!
The sound echoed across the plains, signaling the start of the battle.
Both armies moved in unison. Two tides of flesh and steel surged toward one another. Over a thousand footsteps thundered against the earth. Weapons raised. Spells unleashed. The vampires charged with monstrous speed, while the adventurers met them head-on.
Then the two armies collided.
Boom!
The battlefield erupted in chaos. Steel crashed against steel. Fangs tore into flesh. And spells obliterated cold, undying bodies. Absolute mayhem everywhere.
Blood sprayed through the air as spells exploded across the battlefield, illuminating the darkness with flashes of fire, lightning, and countless other colors. Screams and battle cries filled the night. All hell broke loose.
And at that exact moment, Adam's illusory figure silently disappeared.
Most were too busy with their own battles to even notice. Most. Aramen was the only person who thought something strange with Adam's illusory body. So when it vanished, his eyes narrowed. Still, he could do nothing about it as he was busy fighting two vampire Generals.
Kesha, Gregor, and Umlo were fighting one General respectively. That left three additional vampire Generals to deal with. However, the adventurers only had one Councilor left.
That was the moment Luca showed his brilliance.
He had chosen his first opponent clearly. It was none other than Malik — the one with the missing arm. And though the vampire was missing an arm, he was still quite dangerous.
"How dare a nameless boy dare look down on me!" Malik growled as he saw Luca sprinting toward him.
In the blink of an eye, they were less than half a dozen meters away from one another.
Luca still had not taken out his trump card weapon, the Winter Blade. He and Adam had decided to use the two special weapons for the true enemy that resided within the secret plane, whom they believed to be the gypsies.
Instead, he wielded an unassuming sword and charged ahead.
Malik, despite his rage and fury, hadn't lost his cool. He, too, wielded a sword. He feinted a high slash to the neck, but halfway through the motion, he shifted his stance and turned it into a tricky thrust aimed straight for the heart.
However, Luca was faster.
Before the vampire had even finished the feint, Luca had already stepped inside his swing trajectory. His sword swept through the air in a clean, fluid arc.
The sword shattered in his hand, but he did not care. He continued forward, without even turning back. Already moving on to his next opponent.
Malik's body was cut in half.
The battlefield around them turned silent as both sides, adventurers and vampires alike, stared at Luca walking away in shock.
"Nameless boy?" Luca sneered. "My name has been carried across the sea of stars, spoken with respect, with fear, with honor. What would a frog at the bottom of a well possibly know?"
The white werewolf's hide resting on his head and shoulders lent him a powerful, primal, and savage aura.
War. This was what he lived for. This was what he trained for.
And now, he was here.
His lips split into a wild grin. He inhaled deeply and let out a loud, bestial howl that made the people nearby recoil in fear.
Already, two scimitars had appeared in his hands. His gaze locked onto the stunned Vampire General before him, and he rushed toward him, movement animalistic but somehow graceful.
The vampire General was shocked and terrified that Malik had been killed in a single strike. Even though the fellow General was missing an arm, that did not mean that he could be killed so effortlessly.
And when he saw Luca descend upon him, his grey eyes gleaming in the shadows of the werewolf's maw, he couldn't help but subconsciously take a step back in terror.
No more time left to feel fear. Luca was already upon him.
The twin scimitars flashed in the air, their blades reflecting the crimson light of the moon. One strike. Two strikes. Third strike. And blood erupted into the night.
Howl!
Luca let out yet another howl, one filled with excitement and joy.
As the General's body collapsed to the ground, the vampires around him froze. Two Generals had fallen back to back in the heat of battle. Killed by the same man.
Sandra, who was about to become Luca's third opponent, quickly retreated and concealed herself. The vampires around her stirred as their eyes glazed over. The next moment, they surged forward in large numbers.
The Lone Wolf welcomed them with open arms.
He howled and danced and flowed from one enemy to the next, reaping life like an apex predator of the wilds.
Luca alone shifted the tide of the entire battle despite Adam's absence.
The adventurer army's morale boomed, while the vampire army began to feel their confidence slowly chip away.
Meanwhile, over a hundred meters underground, Adam repeatedly punched an invisible barrier in front of him. His hand was bloodied, the bones almost visible. But his eyes were ruthless and unyielding.
Shatter!
The space in front of him distorted and broke apart. Adam quickly flowed through the breach in the gap. Behind him, the barrier mended itself back the moment he escaped.
As his hand healed at a rapid pace, he couldn't help but think grimly:
What a powerful barrier!
No time to waste. He quickly made his way above ground. When he broke through the surface, he was half a kilometer beyond the battlefield.
The sounds of war and death roared behind him. He cast a brief glance toward the battlefield, then turned and rushed east.
It would take him a few hours to reach Castle de Vile.
He used his physical strength and also boosted his speed with wind magic. He ran at the fastest speed possible. The flesh on his face squirmed and wriggled, and a moment later, he was Adam again.
Time to shed all pretenses.
