Valerian's return to the material world was immediately noticed by another person. And so, while the survivors of the Blood Moon Secret Plane began their journey back toward civilization, the threads of fate began to stir again.
At an unknown location somewhere in the Free City of Davos, two figures lounged in an opulent chamber. Both had silver-grey hair and topaz eyes. But one was a strikingly beautiful woman, while the other was a towering hulk of a man.
It had been two years since Venia Somnia and her younger brother, Voraxus Somnia, had arrived on Myrrandos.
Their mission was simple - to bring their youngest sibling, Valerian Somnia, back to their home in the Primal Wilderness where he rightfully belonged.
However, doing so had been anything but simple.
Venia, who had been sitting by the window and reading a book, suddenly turned her head northward. Her eyes narrowed ever so slightly as she noticed Valerian's presence.
A moment later, she turned away. She retrieved a slim, rectangular box. It was covered in countless layers of runes meant to seal the item inside.
When Voraxus noticed his eldest sister take out the Pen, he rose to his feet and hurriedly approached her.
"Has he returned?" he asked quickly. "Is he well?"
Venia did not respond. She silently took out a stack of parchment from her storage artifact and placed it on the table before her.
The pale light of the moons drifted through the window, illuminating the dense writing on the pages, as well as the sections which had been struck off.
She then glanced at the sealed box, annoyance flickering in her topaz eyes. She was about to unseal the artifact when suddenly Voraxus placed his firm hand atop the box.
Venia cast him a silent glance.
"Sister," Voraxus said in a serious voice. "You promised me you would let me read it. It has been two years already."
Venia looked at her brother with those cold, indifferent eyes. However, Voraxus did not look away. He maintained eye contact. He would not give in now.
In the end, Venia let out a helpless sigh.
"Fine," she said softly. "I need to continue the story first. Then you may read it."
Voraxus gave a broad smile and removed his hand.
Venia shook her head slightly and began unsealing the box. There was a reason she hadn't allowed Voraxus to read the contents of the story. If he had, he would have been livid.
Voraxus had always been a strongly emotional dragon. Perhaps the most emotional out of all her siblings. If he learned what Valerian had gone through in the story, Venia knew for certain he would vehemently object to it. He might even have gone so far as to prevent her from writing such a story.
But the means did not matter to Venia Somnia.
In the end, all that mattered was that Valerian was safe and he would return home with them.
Then there was the other matter that bothered her. As she unsealed the box and retrieved the unassuming quill from within, she couldn't help but wonder:
Mother did say there would be some resistance from the Pen.
But I never expected it to be this great.
As she stared at the quill in her hand, she felt as though it was silently mocking her.
Venia pushed such silly thoughts out of her mind and began flipping through the parchments.
Voraxus stood beside her, glancing at pages as they flipped by. Even he couldn't help but frown, seeing so many lines struck off.
But he didn't think much of it, for he did not know how the Pen of Manifestation worked.
In the entire clan, only his mother, the great Matriarch of the Somnia Clan, and his eldest sister, Venia, the heir to the clan, knew how the artifact truly functioned. They were the only two wielders of the Pen.
Ignoring his curious gaze, Venia flipped to the last page of the story.
The upper half of the page described the epic battle where Adam Constantine teamed up with Luca Claudius and defeated the powerful devil, Mistress of Blood, Sanguina.
Their fight was written in great detail, as was the part where Adam and Luca were sucked into the spirit world. Then Adam, who could traverse that mysterious dimension, helped Luca return to the material world after ransacking all the treasures Jacob de Vile had left behind in the floating remains of his castle.
The last few lines depicted Adam speaking with Esmond Greene, his reunion with Sandra — his long-lost lover — and finally, everyone's return journey to Davos.
Venia contemplated for a few moments. Then she lowered the quill to the parchment and continued the story.
She wrote the following:
After a month-long journey, the survivors of the Blood Moon Secret Plane finally returned to the Free City of Davos.
After getting their affairs in order, they all gathered at the Rabbit Hole to celebrate.
Drinks and cheers flew everywhere.
That was the first time Adam saw Genevieve sing and dance. And he couldn't keep his eyes off her.
He was so hopelessly enamoured with her that when she grabbed his hand and pulled him to the center of the floor to share a dance, he did not hesitate. Not even for a moment.
Unfortunately, in his negligence, he left Valerian alone at the table. The alcohol impaired his judgment and his desire to dance with Genevieve made him blind to everything else.
Valerian watched his brother and Genevieve dance with great joy and happiness. He was happy for his brother. Very, very happy.
Little did he know that there was a patron inside the tavern who had his eyes on him.
He was a deranged and desperate Magus at the end of his lifespan.
His name was Antero Mortem.
Antero immediately recognized Valerian as a special magical beast.
So, when no one was looking, he sneakily approached the young dragon.
Then he kidnapped him.
The mad Magus rushed out of the building with Valerian in his clutches. He thought no one had noticed.
But the great adventurer Hannibal had.
Hannibal had a good impression of Adam. He liked the youth. And so, he immediately stepped forward to intervene.
But coincidentally, at that exact moment, Hannibal's close friend, Leto Morgan, barged through the front door!
The man frantically grabbed Hannibal by the shoulders, desperately seeking his help.
And in that brief moment of distraction, Antero Mortem fled the building.
Hannibal quickly stepped out of his tavern and spread his senses across the surrounding streets.
But the deranged Magus had vanished.
And so had Valerian…
