Chapter 2087 Valerian's Clan

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Adam's world crumbled before his very eyes.

One moment, he was experiencing love and euphoria. In the next, he was thrust into the pits of despair and terror.

He had been so engrossed in his feelings for Genevieve that he had completely overlooked Valerian's safety.

How could he have left Valerian all by himself? This was unlike him.

What was he even thinking?

There had been so many people at the Rabbit Hole at the time. Many of them were far more powerful and dangerous than Adam. Yet he had left Valerian alone at the table.

He couldn't understand what was going on. How could he have been so stupid?

Adam's figure was a blur. He passed by Leto Morgan, who seemed to be undergoing a sense of crisis by the bar counter. He passed by Hannibal, who stood outside the doors of the tavern, looking around and searching for someone.

Hannibal must have called him out, but Adam did not hear it. At the time, he did not care about anything or anyone.

He jumped from rooftop to rooftop, guided by the faintest thread of connection that he shared with his little brother. He did not bother about the rules and regulations of the city, and openly used magic to accelerate his speed.

Stone cracked below his feet and roof tiles scattered in every direction as he rushed toward where he believed Valerian was.

His little brother was still alive. Unconscious. But alive. He could feel it.

Adam's mind was a complete mess. If Valerian was kidnapped, then he suspected the evil mastermind behind the amulet to be the cause of this.

Who else could it be? He could think of no one else who would randomly kidnap Valerian in the midst of so many powerful Magi and Paladins.

As the surroundings passed by in a blur, Adam thought of something else.

His worst fear might have come true.

Someone must have seen through Valerian's true identity as a dragon!

Damn it! How could I be so careless?!

He landed in the middle of a cobbled street. The surroundings were strangely empty. It was close to midnight. Still, it was suspiciously empty for a buzzing metropolis such as Davos. He didn't know which borough he was in. He didn't care. All he knew was that he was getting close to Valerian.

Adam looked around, breath ragged and eyes glistening with raging tears. He looked in a certain direction and burst into motion. After several turns, he finally arrived before a house. It was a three-story mansion. The neighbourhood was opulent. Blue Borough, he supposed.

He had made such a commotion with his arrival, yet he did not see anyone nearby. It was as though the world had conveniently turned a blind eye to his predicament.

Rage. Pure rage filtered through his being.

Adam retrieved the Morning Star and barged into the house. He did not care who lived inside or how powerful they were. They had dared to lay a hand on his little brother. And now they were going to pay.

He ran through the house. It was quiet. Utterly quiet. The only sound he heard was his deep and ragged breaths. Adam descended the stairs. Two underground layers later, he found himself in front of an iron door. The door was ajar, inviting him.

Adam's heart pounded inside his chest. He could feel Valerian's presence past the door. But why couldn't he hear a sound? Why was it so quiet? He took a steady breath and pushed the iron door open.

He would never forget what he saw inside.

Blood on the ground.

The laboratory was vast. There were dozens of crystal jars containing magical beast parts. All sorts of equipment, sharp and cold.

There were four figures inside the lab.

Valerian lay on a cold, metal table. He was unconscious. He slept peacefully, unaware of the horrors surrounding him.

Two figures with identical characteristics and clothes were present. They wore dark grey armor, and a white cape hung from their shoulders. Both had silvery-grey hair and topaz eyes. One was a woman, and the other was a towering man.

Adam's eyes slowly widened as he took in the scene before him.

The woman stood beside the metal table, examining little Valerian. The man held the fourth figure by the neck and slowly squeezed the life out of him.

Adam glanced at the fourth figure. It was an old and decrepit man with unkempt hair and a mad look in his eyes. Blood flowed from his facial orifices and fell to the floor.

Crack!

Adam flinched.

The towering man snapped the old Magus's neck and tossed him to the side like garbage.

The Magus's soul entered the Lotus's mysterious space. In that moment, Adam realized, much to his horror, that the old man had been a Saint Magus!

And yet the towering grey-haired man had killed him so effortlessly…

Venia Somnia gently cradled Valerian in her arms. She then turned to Adam and studied him with cold, yellow eyes.

"Adam Constantine," she said, "we finally meet."

Adam ignored her. His gaze remained glued to the little fellow in her arms.

"Valerian, he…" It was difficult to speak. His mind and heart were in a state of chaos. "Is he… is he hurt?"

Venia stayed silent for a few moments. "He is unharmed," she said.

She walked toward the door. Then she walked right past him, leaving behind words that struck his heart.

"You have failed to keep him safe."

Adam's vision spun. His breathing quickened. His heart ached. He was weak, helpless, and pathetic. The world was hard, cruel, and cold.

If it weren't for these two people, Valerian might have died. He might have truly died.

And what was Adam doing while Valerian was on the verge of death?

Singing, dancing, and getting drunk.

He hated himself. He hated himself so much.

He was unworthy. He was incapable. He was incompetent.

Tears streamed down his face as he was made to face the harsh, bitter truth. His knees buckled, and he almost fell to the floor. But right at that moment, a pair of strong and gentle hands clasped his shoulders.

Adam looked up in a daze. Tears had clouded his vision. But he could see the towering grey-haired man looking at him with sadness and compassion.

Why was the man pitying him?

He didn't deserve it. He deserved nothing.

"Adam," said the man gently. "My name is Voraxus Somnia."

"Somnia…" Adam murmured.

Yes, he had already figured out these two were from Valerian's clan. Their characteristics were too eye-catching.

"Valerian is safe now," Voraxus continued. "So you don't have to worry. It… it wasn't your fault."

"How was it not my fault?" Adam's lips curled upward as tears trickled down. "Everything is my fault. Everything…"

Voraxus wanted to deny. His lips parted, but no words escaped them. He had so much he wanted to say. But in the end, he didn't. He couldn't.

So he pulled him into a hug.

"It's okay," he said gently. "Everything's going to be fine now."

Adam was motionless. It was as though he heard nothing. Saw nothing. Felt nothing.

Voraxus looked at the raven-haired youth again and let out a sigh. He then guided him up the stairs.

"Come, let's get you something to eat," he said.

"There's much to discuss."
