Genevieve stood in front of a mirror. Her fingers brushed against her arm, the left side of her face, her shoulder, and her stomach. The wounds had been healed. Not even a scar remained. If anything, her body now felt even better and full of vigor.
She watched in a daze. She thought that she would have a faint permanent scar running over her left eye. But nothing. The skin was flawless.
Whatever that green liquid was, not only did it heal her wounds, but it also strengthened her body from the inside out, allowing her to advance from a Squire to a Cavalier.
"Incredible," she murmured.
The advanced arcanalogy used during the healing process was simply amazing. She was certain that even the Herbalists’ Guild back on Myrrandor hadn’t reached such heights.
This went on to show the true depths of the Great Noble Houses.
She donned her clothes and put on her leather boots, bracelets, earrings, and the crane pendant that Valentina gifted her. Her auburn hair had been cut short, reaching just to the base of her neck.
She tucked a few strands of her hair behind her ear as she glanced at herself, wondering if Adam would like her new hairstyle.
A smile touched her lips as she thought of him.
She stroked the raven band on her finger and brought it to her lips, kissing it as though she were kissing him. She missed him.
Not simply his presence, but the little things she had come to treasure without even realizing it. Like the sound of his voice, the warmth of sitting beside him, the way his eyes softened when he looked at her, and the strange, wonderful laugh of his that she could never quite get enough of.
For two years, she had carried him in the back of her mind through every training practice, every battle, every wound, and every lonely night.
Whenever she was exhausted, she thought of him. Whenever she was frightened, she thought of him. Whenever she accomplished something, some small part of her wished he were there so she could tell him.
Now that the coming-of-age ceremony was over, she could finally return to Myrrandor. Soon she would see him again. The thought made her heart flutter.
She wanted to hear his voice again. To see that beautiful smile. To sit beside him and feel his presence. More than anything, she wanted to hold him again. Feel his warmth. Take in his scent. Shower him with kisses.
After two years apart, Genevieve realized just how deeply she had missed the man she loved.
She looked at herself in the mirror one final time before leaving her private chamber.

Genevieve found the Custos in the heart of the temple.
He stood before the statue of the Angel of Miracle.
Carved entirely from white marble, the figure stood heroically with a pair of magnificent wings spread behind Him. He wore garments resembling an ancient toga, while a laurel wreath rested upon His head. Behind Him was the Wheel of Fortune, carved in perfect detail and positioned like a radiant halo.
Genevieve was left in awe. She arrived beside the Custos and clasped her hands in respect toward the ancestor of House Fortuna.
For a moment, the two remained in silence beneath the divine gaze of the Angel of Miracle.
The Custos turned toward her, the ancient statue of Miracle watching over them in silence. On cue, Genevieve went down on one knee, her heart blazing with anticipation.
"Before the eyes of our ancestor, I shall now bestow upon you the rewards you have earned," the Custos proclaimed as he presented the first reward.
It was a simple tome, bound in worn leather.
"First, the teachings passed down from our ancestor. ’Tis but a fragment left behind by Him, yet it shall aid you in understanding the currents of probability."
Genevieve accepted the tome with both hands.
The Custos then presented a pair of earrings. They were shaped like tiny wheels, their intricate designs simple but beautiful.
"Second, an artifact of our House. These earrings shall enhance your perception of probability, allowing you to see favourable and unfavorable possibilities with greater clarity."
Finally, he brought forth a bow. It was beautifully crafted, its wood possessing a deep, ancient luster.
"Third, a bow forged from the wood of one of the elder trees of this primordial forest. Its string was fashioned from the sap of a thousand-year-old tree."
He offered it to Genevieve.
"It shall synergize with your divination magic," he said, "and aid you in guiding your shots along the paths of greatest fortune."
Genevieve accepted the bow and quietly lowered her head. She had not expected to receive so many rewards.
The Custos stepped closer. Then, with surprising gentleness, he bent down and kissed her forehead.
"You entered this forest as a child who still believed herself to be an outsider. Now you shall leave as one worthy to bear our name."
He stepped back and solemnly declared:
"Rise, Genevieve of Fortuna. From this day forth, you shall forge your own fortune."
***
Genevieve returned to the ancestral palace that same night.
Somehow, her family members already knew she was coming. They were waiting for her.
The moment she arrived, they surrounded her, hugging her and congratulating her, their eyes beaming with pride.
Even the old crone who always won money gambling with Genevieve embraced her and kissed her cheeks, proudly proclaiming how happy she made her.
Genevieve felt warm and happy among her kin.
For the first time in a year, she was surrounded by familiar faces. Yet, despite the joy in her heart, there was one thing she wished for.
She wished her aunt Valentina had been there. She wished her father had been there. She wanted them to see her pass the coming-of-age ceremony. She wanted them to see the person she had become.
That night, the family members in the palace gathered for a feast, celebrating Genevieve. It was a wonderful night filled with love and happiness.
The following day, she finally prepared to leave Providentia. She did not forget to take a few gifts and trinkets for Adam and others back on Myrrandor.
She bid farewell to her family, promising to return soon.
For long-lived humans, this was common. Decades or even centuries might pass before they saw one another again. Yet that did not make farewells any easier.
On the day of her departure, another person decided to tag along with Genevieve, and there was nothing she could do about it.
The astralship soared into space. From the viewport, she watched her homeworld becoming smaller and smaller, a bittersweet feeling blooming in her heart.
Then, in the blink of an eye, the vessel plunged into the spirit world.
She brought the raven band closer to her heart, a beautiful smile on her face.
I’m coming home, my love.
