Chapter 1248: Life turned Vain

[[AUTHOR’s announcement: Hello everyone, sorry for the long 1 and half month break. The reason behind my absence is simply too complicated to explain, but I’ll try anyway.

For the past 2 months, I’ve been suffering from Chronic Insomnia. And no, I do not have the habit of drinking Coffee everyday.

I could barely sleep for 2 hours every night, and my mind was hyperactive throughout the entire thing. I even resumed gym again just to exhaust myself so I could fall asleep due to fatigue, but it just doesn’t work.

I have visited two different doctors and taken different medications. Yet none of them helped at all. I even self medicated and tried Magnesium Glycinate, Vitamin K2 and D3 along with it to better my sleep and calm my nervous system down. I even tried the whole yellow light after 6 PM thing and shut down all the lights at 8 PM in my room just to fall asleep. But nothing worked.

And throughout the day, my mood was often irritated for no reason. I could not focus on a single thing and constantly seeking some sort of ‘feel good’ hit. Playing video games or going to the gym didn’t help either.

Drinking and other stuff are a no-go for me because of my illness that all of you are aware of. And every time I tried to sit down and write chapters… my brain instantly turned itself off.

Some might call it being lazy, but those who suffer from chronic insomnia understand how chaotic your mind and body connection is due to irregular sleep, fatigue at the wrong time, brain shutting down while the body is perfectly fine.

It was like becoming a living Mummy with a functioning brain.

After almost 2 months… I can finally get at least 4 hours of sleep, which is just me passing out till I wake up again around 3 AM.

While I am aware of your displeasure due to irregular updates… I am also struggling on my own end. I will try to upload at least one chapter per day for the following week and would preferably resume the novel at a regular pace from next month.

So thank you for your constant support despite my failures to uphold my own words from time to time.

See you more often from now on.

CHAPTER:

Morpheus stood shocked as his entire life crumbled before him. The death of his parents, his experience in that hidden settlement where he took an innocent life, the remainder of his life struggling to survive at the cost of his humanity and finally, even his future goals to make a difference in the world… they all turned futile in an instant as he learned the truth of his world.

“After Volos was killed, this outer god used their power to influence powerful people of this world and rewrite history.

And the reason it had to do so is that it cannot enter your world because of an invisible barrier left behind by Volos.” iterated God of Darkness.

“What?! There is an invisible barrier around the entire planet?” asked Morpheus, shocked.

“Though Volos had died long ago… his will still lives through this world and is defending it against the Outer God like Vasudhara, who creates all those calamities.

And that power which allows your world to fight against those extraterrestrial invaders is…” spoke God of Darkness as he was about to reveal key information.

However, it was Morpheus who finished the sentence with a shocked countenance…

“The Status Window.” he spoke with his eyes filled with shock.

“Yes. The remainder will or divinity, as some might call it… is the very thing that has been allowing your world’s people to awaken and have these powers to fight back against the Outer Gods.

These dimensional rifts, these dungeons and even all those towers that you awakened have been fighting against all these decades were created by Vasudhara.

This is how these Outer Gods invade the worlds, take over them and then harvest all the life forms to increase their forces so that they can move onto the next universe.” revealed God of Darkness.

Morpheus was simply flabbergasted after hearing the ultimate truth of his own world. A truth that would start a chain of breaking his own belief system.

“Vasudhara is just one of them. It was merely the first to arrive in this particular universe.

There are dozens more like it. All of them have different powers and species they have created to invade planets like yours. But they all seek the destruction of everything in every universe that exists in reality.

And even if you defeat it somehow using those powers granted by Volos… you will never see an end to this war.

To be honest, even with those powers, it’s never going to be enough since Volos himself was weak against this Outer God.

It was only his farsightedness that has protected your world so far. But even his barrier would crumble in a few years, and afterwards, there won’t be any way to avert this impending destruction of your world.” stated God of Darkness with a foreboding tone.

“Tell me… how do you wish to fight against something like this?” asked God of Darkness to the human before him.

Morpheus was beyond shocked and helpless at the same time.

“Can humanity even fight against something like this?” he asked himself with a harrowed expression.

He had dreams about becoming strong and making a difference in this world. His Hunter Killer Class would eventually help him achieve that goal.

But to think that the whole foundation of the present world itself was a lie?

How was he going to liberate the world when the Goddess all the people worshipped was the enemy itself?

Who was going to believe him, even if he became the strongest being in the world, and who was going to fight alongside him when he had to face the strongest forces from the other dimensions?

And on top of it… Vasudhara was just one of the Outer Gods. Even 100 lifetimes won’t be enough for him to win this war.

“Why… why did you make this tower then? Was your intention to find strong people to fight against these outer gods?

What proof do you have that you’re not an Outer God yourself, trying to shake my belief in the world and turn me into one of your pawns to fight against Vasudhara itself?

Why should I believe a single word from your mouth?” asked Morpheus, his tone turning serious but also unyielding.

God of Darkness snickered and replied coyly…

“The eradication of different universes and all the life forms by the outer gods is part of a greater reason itself.

Consider it something akin to balancing things across all the universes. Yours just happen to be one of the sacrificial worlds.

Sooner or later… Volos will fall, like all the others.”

God of Darkness then brought them back into the illusory Eternal Abyss and spoke sternly…

“While you are correct about me wanting to recruit a worthy candidate for a greater cause…” he spoke.

“It’s not to fight these insects that I can erase from existence with a mere thought.” he stated in an authoritative voice.

“To me… It’s not even worth giving a second thought. What I’m after isn’t balancing this universe.

Let me be very clear. Your entire universe in itself… is insignificant. And even if there are plenty of others who have cleared the towers in their world far more quickly than you and have powers that can easily outshine you… the reason we even met in the first place is that you’re a human.” stated God of Darkness grimly.

“What I require is not just your body but also your soul. It is the only thing that makes you somewhat worth even talking to.” he revealed with a rude tone.

“You just happened to be the first human that I have been looking for in this time of recruitment.” he stated curtly.

“This time? Have you done this before?” asked Morpehus with an anticipating expression.

“Yes. This is the 8th time I am doing this. I do not require a person to save a mere universe.”

The God of Darkness soon spoke with an overbearing voice.

“No… I need a warrior for my own cause. I need a man worthy enough to fight in my name.

I’m looking for someone to not save just one universe but all of them.” he declared with a domineering voice.

“I’m looking for the new Hero of Darkness.”
