As the topics of their discussions were coming to an end, Morpheus suddenly revealed the main cause of his betrayal against the God of Darkness. And the main source for his doubt about the nature of the God’s intentions regarding the fate of Vantrea was revealed to be none other than their Divine Weapon itself.
“What?! What do you mean?” asked Kahn with perked up ears.
“I do not trust God of Darkness any longer. It was one of the reasons why I chose to hide myself in the Abyss Empire, but without letting the Cult of Darkborne reveal the existence of this sealed realm.
The only two people who were guarded with this secret were the High Priestess and my trusted subordinate… Lucian Varangis.” revealed Morpheus.
“I’m aware. I reckon that master Romulus was left out of the loop to protect that secrecy as well.” said Kahn as he nodded.
“Yes. While Romulus chose to give up on our cause after thinking that the Abyss Empire was destroyed… I intentionally let him meet Argos in both timelines.
Though both times, my remnant memories being sealed here or the existence of this entire hidden realm itself was never known to him.” iterated Morpheus.
“Lucian, on the other hand… he simply wouldn’t abandon me even though he has become the Champion of God himself.
In both timelines, he has never wavered even once and guarded my secret even from the Divine Cadre for centuries as he prepared for your arrival for all this time.
Once you leave and assume the role of the Cult Leader… I have instructed him to teach you everything.
The war strategies you learnt from Romulus and supervision from Lucian would help you immensely to integrate into that role.
It will not be the same as running an Empire, so take those matters seriously.” stated Morpheus with a serious countenance.
“I agree. I already felt like things in the hidden Abyss Empire would require a different approach.” responded Kahn.
“Now… are you ready to finally meet our divine weapon?” asked Morpheus.
Kahn could only silently nod in response with a firm expression.
“Know that once you leave the hidden Abyss Empire with it, the God of Darkness would detect its emergence in Vantrea once again.
It is also very powerful. Even when I met Brokkr and Eitri, the Deities of Blacksmithing… they warned me about its use.
So you should always be careful around it every time you are forced to take it out.” he forewarned Kahn.
And the very next moment…
Stab!
Morpheus stabbed his own heart and ripped it out.
Thump!
Badum!
Thump!
His pulsating heart came into sight as his chest instantly regenerated, even though it wasn’t a real human body.
“I had to hide it this deep and force it to slumber for almost 250 years. And knowing its personality… it won’t be very pleased.” said Morpheus as he passed his dark and purple aura to the heart.
“Wake up….” spoke Morpheus as he crushed his heart.
BOOMM!!!
A massive dark and violet aura erupted as the crushed heart started taking its own shape.
Crack!
As if twisting reality, a forbidden power emerged and started taking shape.
Filled with archaic runes and emanating a dark and violet aura… a long polearm appeared as the pommel had a spiky spear blade, and the massive curved blade attached to it, glowed on its inner sharpened curve.
At the joint, there was a demonic skull with horns coming out of the blade as chains tied the blade and the polearm together.
Whether it was the ornate design, the grim dark aura, or the demonic skull showcasing the malicious killing intent… the weapon finally achieved its full form.
Yes, Kahn’s divine weapon was a… War Scythe.
The density of the aura of darkness was even higher than that of Kahn despite him having already awakened his divine key.
On one side, his own aura of darkness seemed to feel oppressed as the one exuded by the scythe was simply superior.
For a moment, Kahn felt as if he was in the presence of the God of Darkness himself as the Scythe held by Morpheus felt identical to one held by the God of Darkness when he met him recently.
And finally, a harrowing and domineering voice echoed.
“So have you finally chosen to die again, Morpheus?”
The voice came out of the demonic skull as it decided to talk with its owner first.
“Centuries of slumber and your first thought is to kill me again?” asked Morpheus as he looked at the scythe.
Swoosh!
The scythe flew and hovered on its own as the dark red eyes glowed brighter.
“I have killed your body and soul as per our agreement. But you chose to seal me inside this frozen realm against my wish.
Do not expect me to have any semblance of our old camaraderie left. You are just one of my contractors, nothing special.” said the scythe, its voice filled with clear enmity.
“Why did you wake me up again after all this time?” asked the scythe.
“Look behind you.” said Morpheus with a coy smile.
The scythe turned and looked at Kahn.
Boom!!
“This pipsqueak is my new contractor?!” exclaimed the divine weapon.
“Hey! We’ve literally just met. Stop judging me as if you know me.” said Kahn as he looked at his future comrade.
“You are rightfully my divine weapon. And I have already awakened my divine key.
All that is left for us is to be bound through it.” said Kahn as he extended his hand.
However… divine weapon had its own thoughts.
“Hubris! You’re too weak to wield me.
I shall not be held by someone who is not even an 8th-stage saint. Especially after tasting the might of all the divine weapons all that long ago.
You do not deserve to hold I, the divine weapon born from the God of Darkness.
For I am…” said the divine scythe as it finally revealed its name that echoed in the entire frozen realm.
“Harbinger of Gluttony & Decay… Beelzebub.”
