Chapter 2568: Housemate

Originally, Vanessa-san had bought these snacks intending to enjoy a quiet drink alone, so with the two of us eating together, the pace at which they were being consumed was fairly fast.

Well, to begin with, Vanessa-san was drinking at a rapid pace, so that naturally sped up how quickly the snacks disappeared though there was still plenty left. Still, I was starting to get a bit tired of dried foods, so I decided to take out something suitable from the Magic Box.

[Wait a second, Kaito-kun. These eggs arent they ridiculously delicious?]

[They were smoked by Nebula and Illness-san using chips from the World Tree. Not just meat and fish, there were fruits too. I received quite a variety.]

What Vanessa-san was praising so highly were smoked eggs about the size of quail eggs. You could eat them in a single bite, and they had a rich flavor with an excellent smoky aroma. Combined with how easy they were to eat, they felt perfectly suited as snacks to go with alcohol.

[If youre going to serve something this delicious, it would be rude of me not to bring out my own hidden stash. No helping it, Ill show you my finest.]

[Your finest? That sounds exciti Vanessa-san? Wait, w- what are you doing!?]

[Well, it should be hidden here]

[Do you realize what youre wearing right now!? Please dont go rummaging under the bed dressed like that!]

After declaring shed bring out her special stash, Vanessa-san dropped to all fours in front of the bed and reached underneath, trying to retrieve something.

However, she was currently dressed in nothing but underwear and an oversized T-shirt. To make matters worse, the bed was directly in front of where I was sitting.

Which meant that, from my perspective, the way she looked in that position was far too stimulating. The motion of reaching under the bed ended up emphasizing her hips even more.

I noticed immediately and quickly looked away, but even turning my face aside, I could still catch glimpses of it at the edge of my vision. Or rather, my awareness kept drifting that way it was a rather complicated state of mind.

[Oh, got it, got it. It was farther back than I thought.]

[Vanessa-san, did you get it? Is it safe for me to look again now?]

[If you wanted to look, you couldve just looked youre quite the gentleman.]

[Even if this is your own room, your guard is way too low, youre basically completely unguarded Theres a member of the opposite sex here, you know?]

Pulling out what looked like a tightly sealed box from under the bed, Vanessa-san returned to sit beside me in high spirits, showing absolutely no sign of concern.

At this point, I was convinced that even if I had been staring the whole time, she wouldnt have minded in the slightest.

[Hmm, I guess that depends on the person. Youve got plenty of options, so theres no need for you to be desperate, and its not really in your nature anyway As for me, even if you suddenly pushed me down right here, Id probably just accept it with the thought Want a little exercise between drinks? The troubling part was that Vanessa-san wasnt joking, she genuinely meant it If I were to lose to temptation and make a move here, shed probably accept it in that same relaxed manner.

As she spoke, Vanessa-san turned the box around in her hands, trying to undo the tightly wound string wrapped around it.

[Well, its not like I want something as over-the-top as a boyfriend or husband, that just sounds like a pain so Ill pass on that, but I do have a normal sex drive, and if its someone I like, I dont mind being held at all~~. And if you ever feel like a change of pace, just let me know, okay~~? Oh, it opened. Wanna have a taste?]

[Taste of what?]

[For now, the secret snack, I guess so, what do you think?]

[Black meat? Is it something marinated?]

Being lightly dressed and mentally completely unguarded, Vanessa-sans teasing was especially tough to deal with while I had alcohol in me. So I tried not to dwell on what shed just said and instead focused on the secret snack.

At a glance, it looked like blackened meat, and it was clear it had been marinated in something. That was probably why shed stored it under the bed instead of in the Magic Box. Time doesnt pass inside the Magic Box, so its not suitable for marinating.

[This is actually fish. By cutting it into chunks and applying a special State Preservation Magic, you can let the sauce soak in without it going bad. Its pretty advanced magic, and it also slows down the aging process a lot, so it takes time to finish, but the taste is incredible.]

[Hehh. Well then, since we have it, Ill try one oh, wow. The flavor is incredibly rich, but it still clearly tastes like fish it goes really well with beer.]

[Right? Eating this while drinking ahh, thats the best!]

Vanessa-sans secret snack tasted somewhat like marinated tuna, but far more complex. The more you chewed, the more umami spread through your mouth. Despite clearly being well-aged, it still carried a freshness reminiscent of just-caught sashimi. As expected of something she called her secret stash, it was exceptionally delicious.

Unn, it really is delicious. Delicious is good, but Vanessa-san? Youve moved so close youre practically pressed up against me. Is that intentional, or not? I cant quite tell, and with how loose her neckline is in this outfit, Im not sure where Im supposed to look when glancing downward
