Chapter 2628: Re: Demon Realm Amusement Park

As we continued through the Mirror Labyrinth, we managed to fend off several attacks from the mirror monsters and have been making fairly good progress. It is an attraction with horror elements, but rather than horror being the main focus like in a haunted house, it has more of the atmosphere of an attraction that happens to include horror-themed effects.

In fact, even the attacks by the mirror monsters have quite a wide variety to them: some are meant to startle you, some are eerie or frightening, some use feints to confuse you, and others are more like quizzes, such as the color of their clothes slowly changing. Overall, it doesnt feel like its entirely focused on horror.

[B- But weve made quite a bit of progress, right? A- Are we still far from the goal?]

Though Hina-chan has been progressing perfectly well while being scared of absolutely everything, or rather, her reactions are big every time, and she seems to be enjoying the attraction with all her heart.

Incidentally, the previous attack involved the face of a mirror monster suddenly appearing in an extreme close-up on the mirror the instant you turned around, so she is currently hugging my arm tightly and seems to be on high alert.

[Hmm, I dont think its probably that big of a maze. I mean, if a huge number of people could progress through it simultaneously like in Forest Castle, then sure, but this attraction is designed for two people at a time Since we were able to go together, even if 10 people can go through at once, its still being operated as a theme park attraction. And since the maze itself isnt the main focus of the attraction, I dont think its all that large.]

[Thats true. There were several forks in the path, but whenever we took a wrong turn, we reached a dead end pretty quickly, so they were fairly easy to understand.]

[Unn. The attacks from the mirror monsters are also, in the end, pretty easy to figure out, so they shouldnt have designed this as a high-difficulty attraction When you think about it that way, I feel like we should be reaching the goal soon.]

To put it bluntly, this attraction isnt very difficult. Part of that may be because the previous attraction was Forest Castle, but what you have to do here is simple, and most of the abnormalities with the mirror monsters are easy to notice, so there arent many things that are particularly easy to overlook.

The feints where they move between mirrors can be a little tricky, but even those leave themselves exposed in an obvious opening after moving a few times so I think it was designed to be clearable even by relatively young children.

Naturally, that means the maze itself shouldnt be all that difficult either, and weve already made a fair amount of progress Weve also driven off the mirror monsters around 10 times by now, so I dont think it would be strange for us to reach the goal soon.

As we continued moving while talking about that, Hina-chan suddenly came to a stop.

[Hina-chan?]

[Its almost about to end huh Kaito-senpai! W- What do you think? Dont you think this would be a good time to do that capable-man move where you put your arm around the shoulder of your frightened kouhai and reassure her?]

[U- Unn?]

She had suddenly started saying something strange, but judging from her expression and tone it seemed like she had decided to take some sort of plunge because the attraction was almost over.

Maybe it was one of those situations shed always dreamed of and had naturally hoped would happen by now, but since it hadnt, she had given up waiting and was directly asking for it Well, whatever the case

[I mean putting aside all the other reasons, if I want to put my arm around the shoulder of Hina-chan while youre clinging to my right arm, Id need about one more right arm to make that work]

[Huh!? T- Theres thats the blind spot!? N- No wonder it never turned into that kind of situation]

Thats right. Regardless of whether Id actually been trying to make it happen or not, in order to create that situation where I put my arm around Hina-chans shoulders and reassure her it would be impossible unless Hina-chan, who had been clinging to my right arm practically since the beginning, let go at least once.

There was no way I could put my left arm around Hina-chans shoulder while she was clinging to my right arm in the first place, I was holding a lantern in my left hand.

[Errr, would you rather we did it that way?]

[Honestly, Ive always kind of dreamed about doing something like that so if youre okay with it, Kaito-senpai, Id like to try it at least once]

[Im fine with it, but are you sure youre okay with it, Hina-chan?]

[Kaito-senpai can be incredibly dense at certain key moments, so Ill say this just in case I wouldnt be clinging to the arm of a member of the opposite sex that I didnt have any feelings for in the first place, you know?]

The line was far more straightforward than I had expected, and I couldnt help but feel my heart skip a beat. However, if there was one thing I had to argue against I thought Hina-chan was actually pretty dense herself.

I could somehow tell from her behavior up until now, as well as the emotions conveyed through Sympathy Magic, but I got the impression that Hina-chan was being affectionate towards me as more like my little sister, not really being conscious of me as a member of the opposite sex But it wasnt as though I didnt see Hina-chan, who was cute and quite physically affectionate, as a member of the opposite sex at all. If anything, I sometimes had to consciously keep my expression under control so that my face wouldnt slacken when she clung to my arm.

W- Well, regardless. Since this was a request from Hina-chan herself, I might as well grant her wish

Ahahahaha.

[Hyiih!?]

At the sudden sound of laughter, Hina-chan let out a shriek and clung to me. I hurriedly checked the mirrors around us, but there was nothing particularly strange about them. However, the laughter continued to reach our ears.

[K- Kaito-senpai, what do you think that is?]

[Theres nothing reflected in the mirrors It feels like were only hearing the voice? For now, lets proceed while staying alert.]

[Y- Yes!]

Keeping an eye on the surrounding mirrors in case something suddenly changed, we continued forward, and with every step we took, the laughter grew louder and louder.

This was probably no, almost certainly the laughter of the mirror monster but what was going to happen?

As I continued forward while wondering about that, we eventually arrived in an unusually spacious room. It was circular, and naturally, every wall was covered in mirrors Square mirrors were arranged in a circle, and there must have been several dozen of them.

[Theres no exit?]

[It really doesnt feel like a dead end though? Somethings going to happen Ah!?]

As we cautiously entered the room, the path we had just come through was blocked by a mirror that rose up from the ground.

Ahahahahahahahahahaha!

Based on what I had expected, we should have been nearing the goal. A room surrounded by a huge number of mirrors, the laughter of the mirror monster, our retreat cut off Arehh? Is this, perhaps the start of some kind of boss battle?

Serious-senpai : [W- Well done, Mirror Monster! You actually stopped the lovey-dovey development!! Youre my only ally!!!]

Mirror Monster : [No, that situation isnt good. Its too sudden, and it would be more of a case of being swept alng by the circumstances I do think thats another valid form of it, and there are situations where that kind of thing can be delicious. But if were talking about truly intense lovey-dovey romance, I want drama and a beautiful finish. Here, Id like to set up a situation where the two of them have to face a difficult challenge together, deepen their bond, and then, after overcoming it, embrace each other in a surge of emotion! Then, after getting embarrassed and pulling apart, they can revisit that suggestion from earlier that was interrupted, where hed put an arm around her shoulders, and the two of them walk toward the brightly lit goal together Thats the plan Id like to go with.]
