I couldnt find any time to write yesterday, so I took the day off.
The reception area of Undead World was how should I put it? It had a certain atmosphere. The whole place was rather eerie, with an ambiance that brought black magic and the like to mind It was the kind of interior design Amel-san would probably like.
After receiving an explanation at the reception desk, it seemed that Undead World was designed to be explored by following a set route, and that everyone could participate together.
Apparently, various types of undead could be found along the way, and visitors could even read detailed explanations about them. Since the exhibits were quite realistic, there was also a warning advising people who werent comfortable with undead to refrain from participating.
[I thought it would be like a haunted house, but I guess its a little different?]
[They mentioned detailed explanations, so perhaps its more like a museum or an archive A place where you go around looking at various undead.]
[Ah, t- then, I guess it wont be that scary?]
As Aoi-chan had said, if I took the receptionists explanation at face value, the place sounded more like a zoo or aquarium with a somewhat predetermined route. Rather than a horror attraction, it seemed to be about being able to see rare undead that people wouldnt normally have many opportunities to encounter.
Indeed, it seemed that many undeads were nocturnal, so there were few opportunities to see them under ordinary circumstances. Id only seen them at places like the night market Id visited with Illness-san. Other than that, my experience was mostly limited to personally knowing individuals such as Sechs-san and Rachel-san.
Considering that, being able to see so many different undead would be a rare opportunity. And if Lasal-san was supervising the exhibits, theyd probably be incredibly realistic, so it sounded like fun.
Hina-chan also seemed relieved after deciding that it didnt look all that scary. Shed been bracing herself for a horror attraction, but now that impression had eased a little.
With that, all of us moved forward together, following the signs indicating the route toward the path beyond the reception area. We proceeded along the dimly lit passage, illuminated by magical devices emitting a faint glow, and before long, we arrived at an open room.
[Its a graveyard, isnt it?]
[It certainly looks the part, but theres nothing here?]
The room was a remarkably realistic recreation of a graveyard. The route itself was easy to follow, with a path of a different color leading onward, but the undead that were supposed to be the main attraction were nowhere to be seen.
Just as I was wondering about that a wall suddenly descended like a shutter, blocking the entrance wed come through.
[U- Umm, Kaito-senpai The entrance just closed]
[For now, lets just follow the route]
With our escape route suddenly cut off, the silent graveyard felt downright creepy As we continued along the path, unable to shake the unsettling atmosphere countless arms suddenly burst out of the soil right beside us.
[Hyaaaahhhh?!]
As Hina-chan let out a scream and clung to me, zombies began emerging from the ground one after another. T- That startled me So this was how they did it, huh? More importantly, these zombies were incredibly realistic. The rotting flesh and everything was pretty gruesome, and there was even a smell like rotten eggs.
They didnt seem to be able to enter the path itself, moving as though there was an invisible wall separating the path from the graveyard But still, theyre much closer than I expected. This is actually pretty scary
Zombies An extremely common type of undead. Due to their exceedingly low intelligence and high aggression, they are classified as monsters. It is said that they are born when someone dies in an area with a high concentration of magic power, and their corpse is left undisturbed for an extended period. The surrounding magic power is then absorbed into the body, giving rise to something resembling an artificial soul. Therefore, the soul of the deceased does not actually inhabit the corpse. Since it takes a considerable amount of time for them to arise naturally, their bodies are often decomposed, and they emit a strong stench of rotting flesh In this attraction, the smell has been considerably toned down for the sake of the recreation, but actual zombies give off such an overpowering stench that they can be detected even from a certain distance away. There is a story that anyone bitten by a zombie will turn into one themselves, but this is merely a superstition, and zombies have no such ability. However, since their bodies are decomposing, they contain toxins. It is possible for someone to die after the poison enters their body through a bite wound, and for their corpse to subsequently become a zombie if the same conditions are met.
Amid the writhing mass of zombies, glowing words appeared in midair, providing an explanation of the creatures. I see. So this was the kind of attraction it was
[T- This is the real deal!! This is absolutely the real deal!!]
[Its certainly incredibly realistic And if they appear like this, theres more than enough horror to go around.]
Having let her guard down because shed thought it wouldnt be that scary, Hina-chan had been caught completely off guard. She was now hiding behind my back, shouting with tears in her eyes.
Well, the receptionists explanation hadnt been wrong in the slightest But perhaps because Id imagined something more like a museum, with undead specimens on display alongside explanatory plaques I could understand why shed cry foul at the sight of what was essentially a zombie safari park.
Hina-chan clinging to my back was more or less the reaction Id expected. However, to my surprise, I noticed that Aoi-chan was also holding onto my arm.
[Are you not good with horror attractions either, Aoi-chan?]
[N- No, its not that Its just that that thing suddenly jumping out at you is a bit]
Ahh, I see. It wasnt so much that she was afraid of horror attractions as that the zombies had suddenly sprung out at her, startling her into clinging to me That was a perfectly understandable reason.
If anything, the strange one here was me, who was thinking Well, at least they look more normal than Gluttony-sans dimensional beasts.
Serious-senpai : [Do the dimensional beasts other than Natasha really look that scary?]
? ? ? : [Its more like theyre in different genres. Dimensional beasts are more like Lovecraftian horrors, you know? That sort of grotesque appearance.]
