Lin Wan’er continued to carry Bai Ling’er on her back, while Su Xiaowan boldly volunteered to lead the way, tightly clutching her “Little Turtle Shell” in her hand.“Hehe, I’ll go in first to scout the path! If there’s any danger, my precious Turtle Shell will surely block it!” Su Xiaowan patted her chest confidently and carefully crawled into the entrance.
Luo Qingchen and Lin Wan’er exchanged a glance, seeing a hint of helpless amusement in each other’s eyes, and followed her inside.
The inside of the pipe was more spacious than expected, enough for a person to walk upright. The inner walls were made of some cold alloy material, covered with fine lines. Occasionally, directional arrows and strange symbols could be seen, though most had become blurred. The pipe sloped downwards gently, making walking not too strenuous.
The further they walked, the weaker the oppressive energy fluctuations from the outside became, replaced by a more pure yet colder mechanical atmosphere. On the inner walls of the pipe, a few sensors flashed weak red lights intermittently, but they seemed long defunct, showing no reaction to their entrance.
“This place seems to have been abandoned for a long time.” Su Xiaowan commented as she walked, her fingers brushing against the cold pipe wall, “Not even a cobweb. It’s pretty clean.”
“Don’t be careless, watch your step.” Luo Qingchen warned.
The pipe twisted and turned like a maze. After walking for roughly the time it takes to burn a stick of incense, the pipe ahead suddenly widened, seemingly reaching a junction. Several similar pipes led off in different directions. In the center of the junction, scattered on the ground, lay broken metal parts and… the remains of a long-cold Mechanical Body!
This Mechanical Body was more petite than those encountered outside, with a more intricate design, resembling a maintenance robot. Its Crystal Stone core had shattered, its body violently dismantled, parts strewn across the ground.
“Looks like there was a battle here once.” Lin Wan’er crouched, examining the remains of the Mechanical Body.
Luo Qingchen frowned slightly, sensing an extremely faint cold aura from the remains, similar to the eerie presence within the crack outside. Though subtle, it was unmistakable!
Could that thing also infiltrate the tower’s inner pathways?
“We might not be the first ones to come in here.” Luo Qingchen said solemnly, his gaze sweeping over the different pipe entrances, “Or perhaps something has preceded us.”
This discovery cast a shadow over the hearts of all three.
“So… which way do we go now?” Su Xiaowan looked at the several dark pipe openings, somewhat unsure.
Luo Qingchen closed his eyes, carefully sensing the energy fluctuations and aura coming from the various pipes. After a moment, he pointed to the pipe on the left-front: “This way, the energy fluctuations are relatively stable, and… there seems to be a faint breeze, possibly leading to a greater space within the tower.”
The trio set off again, stepping into the left-front pipe. This pipe was noticeably wider than the previous ones, and its slope began to ascend. Before long, the “buzzing” sound of energy operation could be vaguely heard from the front, accompanied by faint light filtering through.
They slowed their pace, cautiously approaching the pipe’s exit. The exit was blocked by a large metal vent grille, through which the outside scene could be glimpsed.
It appeared to be an incredibly vast interior space! The height was lost in darkness above, the width extended seemingly without bounds. Everywhere were colossal instruments flashing various colors, crisscrossing energy conduits, and gigantic metal platforms suspended in mid-air. Countless small points of light, like fireflies, flitted within the space, forming a scene both magnificent and chilling.
At the center of the space, an even larger Energy Core structure, like an inverted mountain, slowly rotated, emitting terrifying energy waves that made one’s heart race! Below the Energy Core, numerous thick energy conduits seemed to connect, stretching in all directions of the space.
“This place… could it be the tower’s Energy Core?” Lin Wan’er stared at the view before her, her eyes filled with awe.
Luo Qingchen’s gaze fixed tightly on the rotating Energy Core structure. He sensed that the tower’s vast, chaotic, and frenzied will seemed to originate from there!
Just then, Su Xiaowan suddenly tugged on Luo Qingchen’s clothing, whispering, “Brother Luo, look there!”
Luo Qingchen followed her direction, seeing in the shadow of a huge instrument below, several blurred figures moving! Those figures wore ragged clothing, and their movements were furtive, seemingly dismantling some components.
“Are there others here?” Luo Qingchen’s heart stirred. Friend or foe?
Before they could make a decision, another change occurred!
Buzz—! The entire vast space suddenly lit up with blaring red alarm lights! A cold mechanical warning voice echoed through the space: “Warning! Unauthorized energy fluctuations detected! Cleansing procedure initiated!”
Immediately, countless concealed openings appeared in the walls surrounding the space, rows of energy cannons shimmering with a cold light extended outward! Simultaneously, the originally firefly-like floating points of light abruptly turned violent, transforming into sharp energy beams that shot towards the sneaky figures below!
