Chapter 1904: The Mysterious Mantis Spider Monster! (Part 2)

She was just about to pull out some talisman to show that flower a thing or two when Luo Qingchen flicked his finger, sending a condensed gray force silently into the root of the flower. The vine and flower, which had been flaunting their fierceness, instantly froze and then rapidly withered, turning gray and dissipating as if they’d lost all vitality.

Su Xiaowan’s mouth dropped open: "Wow... Brother Luo, what’s this move called? ’Flick and Ashes Disappear’? So cool!"

Luo Qingchen ignored her exclamations, his expression remaining calm, yet now there was a hint of wariness in his eyes. The danger here was indeed hidden beneath beauty.

They continued forward, growing more cautious. Along the way, they encountered several bizarre creatures. There were snakes covered in shimmering scales, darting through the branches like lightning; large beetles with crystal-like clusters on their backs, slow yet immensely powerful; and the type Lin Wan’er had seen earlier, deer white as snow with wings like transparent crystals and a Starlight Crystal Stone embedded in its forehead.

These creatures seemed to have adapted to the environment here, harboring varying amounts of Star Energy within them. Some showed curiosity toward the arrival of Luo Qingchen and his companions, like the crystal-winged deer, which took a few glances from afar before scurrying off; others were filled with hostility, such as the scaled snakes, which would have attacked had Luo Qingchen not subdued them with Chaotic Power.

And the energy waves akin to "Starlight Whisper" became increasingly distinct.

After about an hour, the scene in front of them suddenly opened up. Within the dense encirclement of forest, a tranquil lake appeared. The lake’s water was crystal clear, but instead of the usual blue, it possessed a deep, night-sky indigo hue. Above the surface hovered a colorful mist akin to a nebula.

But the most captivating sight was at the lake’s center—not an island, but a massive, irregular rhombus-shaped floating crystal!

This crystal was as large as a house, completely transparent, as if containing a miniature starry sky within; countless points of light slowly rotated, emerging and vanishing inside. A vast, pure, and immense flow of Star Energy was emanating from this immense crystal, permeating the entire lake and even the surrounding forest.

And those peculiar "Starlight Whisper" energy fluctuations were stemming from this floating Star Crystal! It seemed to breathe, every energy intake and release accompanied by indescribable rhythmic wave, resonating with the surrounding Star Energy.

"What... what is this?" Su Xiaowan’s eyes were fixed, unconsciously swallowing her saliva, "Such a huge crystal! It looks like there are stars inside it! If only we could chisel a small piece off..."

"Don’t move!" Luo Qingchen barked in a heavy tone, eyes exceptionally solemn.

He felt an indescribable pressure and a kind of... ancient consciousness emanating from that immense Star Crystal! This consciousness, although dormant, was vast and overwhelming, far surpassing any existence he had encountered before, even more inscrutable than the shattered Star Core!

This crystal was no ordinary thing! It might very well be one of the Energy Cores of this area, or even this world!

At that moment, an anomaly occurred!

A "rustle" sounded from the grass near the lake. Soon after, several black shadows darted out like phantoms!

These were creatures about the size of hunting dogs, completely black, resembling a monster fusion of mantis and spider! They had blade-like sharp forelimbs, eight scarlet glowing compound eyes, and mouthpieces that opened and closed, spilling vile-smelling, dark green saliva!

As soon as these monsters appeared, their gaze was fixed squarely on Bai Ling’er strapped to Lin Wan’er’s back! They seemed to have an intense craving for the faintly visible Dragon Soul aura and the life essence of the Nine Revolutions Soul Revival Grass on Bai Ling’er!

"Be careful!" Luo Qingchen reacted immediately, the Black Dragon Sword unsheathing in a flash, Chanotic Power infusing the blade, sweeping out horizontally!

Simultaneously, those creatures moved! Their speed was astonishing, transforming into multiple streaks, surging from various directions toward Lin Wan’er!

A sudden ambush erupted by the seemingly tranquil shores of Star Lake!

The fetid wind surged forward, the Mantis Spider creatures moving with ghostly speed, their sharp forelimbs slicing through the air with a fierce whistle, targeting Bai Ling’er on Lin Wan’er’s back! Their objective was unmistakable, that enticingly aromatic "youngling"!

"Courting death!" A chilling gleam flashed in Luo Qingchen’s eyes, the Black Dragon Sword struck preemptively, the chaotic Sword Qi sweeping through like a lustrous belt!

Slash! Slash!

The two leading Mantis Spider creatures were unable to dodge, cut in half by the chaotic Sword Qi! The severed ends were smooth as a mirror, yet not a single drop of blood flowed, only black gas dissipated; soon their entire bodies crumbled to dust, as if the chaotic power had obliterated their very existence!

Two were killed in a single blow! Luo Qingchen’s mastery of chaotic power now, and the power of Chaotic Power itself, were far superior to before!

However, the remaining three Mantis Spider creatures did not retreat; instead, they grew more fierce! They seemed devoid of pain or fear, their scarlet compound eyes shining with pure greed and a thirst for slaughter! One suddenly opened its mouth, spitting a dark green net toward Lin Wan’er! Another leapt high, its forelimbs descending like a guillotine upon Luo Qingchen! The last, most cunning of the lot, clung close to the ground like a sliding shadow, attempting to flank Luo Qingchen for a sneak attack!

"Wan’er!" Luo Qingchen reminded, his figure flickering forward instead of retreating, heading straight for the Mantis Spider monster descending overhead!

The Black Dragon Sword slammed into the monster’s blade-like forelimbs!

Clang!!!

A piercing clash of metal rang out! Sparks flew!

Luo Qingchen felt a mighty force strike, his arm numbing slightly. The strength and hardness of this monster’s forelimbs far exceeded his expectations! The Mantis Spider was also jolted back half a step, its scarlet eyes gleamed with a hint of skepticism, seemingly surprised this seemingly slender human could endure its attack head-on!

On the other side, Lin Wan’er responded quickly to the dark green net descending upon her. She steadied Bai Ling’er on her back with her left hand, while her right hand formed a seal, Heavenly Essence Spiritual Power surging instantly!

"Heavenly Essence: Wind Wall!"

A pale cyan, rapidly spinning air barrier materialized instantly in front of her!

Bzzz!

The poison net clashed against the wind wall, emitting a corrosive sound that grated on the teeth, dark green toxic liquid splattered, scorching the surrounding grass blackened! The wind wall trembled violently, its light rapidly dimming, clearly the corrosiveness of this net was immensely powerful!

Yet it was blocked in the end! Lin Wan’er seized the opportunity to sidestep and retreat, increasing the distance.

"Wan’er sister, I’ll help you!" Though frightened, Su Xiaowan didn’t shrink back. Seeing Lin Wan’er in danger, she quickly thrust the Turtle Shell in her arms forward, "Turtle Shell, block it!"

Buzzz!

The Turtle Shell glowed once again, earth-toned radiance flowing. Though not as dazzling as in the Returning Ruins Core, it formed a small yet solid light shield.

Just then, the Mantis Spider creature that had failed to sneak attack Luo Qingchen instantly changed direction, becoming a dark shadow streaking toward the relatively weaker Su Xiaowan!

"Ah!" Su Xiaowan shut her eyes in fright but kept the Turtle Shell raised firmly.

Bang!

The Mantis Spider monster slammed harshly into the earth-toned light shield! It was like crashing into an invisible thick wall! The immense impact forced Su Xiaowan back several paces and land on her bottom, yet the light shield stood firm as a mountain, merely trembling slightly.

The Mantis Spider monster seemed equally caught off guard by how formidable the defense of this unassuming "lid" was, its head spinning, all eight compound eyes swirling in dizzy circles.
