The hours in the cave had not been idle. While Eon talked, Noah listened and gathered, and what he gathered was the sensation of his Source as a thing he could actually examine now that the immediate pressures of arrival had settled into the background rhythm of a place he was beginning to understand rather than simply react to.
He pressed his awareness inward and compared.
Source Type Analysis:
Seidr Source- First Demarcation: Presents as vapor. The Source energy of a Seidr existence is diffuse, spreading outward from the core in loose filaments that extend further than their density warrants. The vapor quality means Seidr Sources register as larger than they functionally are, their energy spread thin across their expression. Under pressure from the ambient elements of THE Source Lands, Seidr Source filaments are easily disrupted and slow to reconverge, which produces the rapid Satiety depletion most First Demarcation entities experience. The diffusion works in one narrow context: a Seidr Source can sense a wider area than its strength suggests, the loose filaments reaching further than denser expressions travel. This makes them better at detection than confrontation.
Galdr Source- Second Demarcation: Presents as liquid. Dense, viscous, coherent. Where Seidr disperses, Galdr pools. The energy stays concentrated at the core and moves as a unified substance rather than as filaments, which means ambient pressure hits it with less effect, as there are fewer loose edges to pull apart. Galdr Sources deplete slower under standard conditions and recover faster from partial depletion because the concentration provides a stable reservoir to draw from rather than a dispersed field to reconsolidate. The density also produces a secondary effect: other Sources in proximity register the Galdr’s presence more accurately than they register a Seidr’s, the concentrated mass broadcasting more clearly into the environment. In THE Source Lands, this translates to other entities knowing where a Galdr Source is. The advantage in strength is accompanied by reduced capacity for concealment.
Source Strengthening Factors: Infinity is the primary contributor for beings who carry it, its density directly translating to Source viscosity and coherence. Observable Force provides structural stability, reducing the rate of ambient sapping. Cause links add depth to the Source’s foundational coherence- a Source tied to a Prime Cause does not merely exist, it exists in alignment with one of the foundational truths of Observable Existence, and the alignment provides resistance that neither Infinity nor Observable Force alone can replicate. Origin lineage contributes a factor that cannot be cultivated: the proximity of one’s originating existence to THE First Cause’s emergence weighs on Source strength in ways that are fixed rather than developed. What one is, at the deepest level, contributes to Source coherence independent of what one has built.
Noah absorbed this and felt the satisfaction of a system he understood becoming visible around him.
He liked the simplicity of it. No Civilizations. No engineering. No architectural layers of accumulated cultivation. Just what he was at the irreducible level and THE Infinite Tongue, which lived there rather than in any of the layers that had been stripped away. His power here was not diminished in the ways it would have diminished a Gilded One. It was different.
Different was workable!
On the ninth hour since their arrival, the darkness shifted.
It did not lighten gradually the way dawn lightened a sky. It receded in a wave, the darkness pulling back from above first, the withdrawal uncovering something that replaced it with a thoroughness that made gradual feel like an insufficient concept.
Noah rose.
Eon came up alongside him and they moved out of the cave mouth together to see what light meant in a place that had no sun.
He stood on the rocks and looked up and felt his eyes open wide.
Above THE Source Lands, where sky should have been and where absolute dark had been for nine hours, flowers were blooming.
Flowers bloomed in thr skies!
Not small. The scale of them was wrong in the specific way that things in this place operated at scales Observable Existence did not use as default. Each flower was a luminous golden formation the size of a small sun, their petals unfurling from central points in the upper dark with the slow deliberate motion of something that had been waiting for its hour and had found it!
Dozens of them. Each one blazing with golden light that carried warmth along with it, genuine warmth that reached the rocky terrain below and pressed against Noah’s Source with the sensation of something nourishing rather than merely illuminating. They bloomed in clusters and individually, distributed across the upper dark in no geometric pattern, simply present wherever they had chosen to be present.
Source Suns- THE Illumination Flowers of THE Source Lands: Natural phenomenon unique to this environment. Bloom on a cycle that does not correspond to any external temporal measurement. Duration of bloom varies. The golden light they produce carries a trace of THE Primordial Source’s ambient energy, which is why the darkness of THE Source Lands is absolute during non-bloom periods- the Illumination Flowers are the only light source this place produces, and THE Primordial Source’s ambient energy does not provide illumination in the way Infinity does. Their light accelerates Source sapping slightly but also accelerates Source recovery from consumption, producing a net positive environment for active hunting. During bloom, all Sources become more active and more visible.
Noah looked down from the flowers to the terrain around them and found it revealed for the first time.
The rocky formations they had moved through extended upward into a mountainscape that his one-mile perception had not been able to fully map in the dark, the peaks rising into the lower reaches of the bloom-lit sky with the permanence of geography that had existed long before any arrival had occurred.
Behind them, the beach and the dark clear waters of the obsidian sea extended outward without visible end, calmer now that the Source Eel had retreated to whatever depth it preferred, the surface carrying the gold of the Illumination Flowers reflected across its darkness.
And to the right.
The forest line rose at the outer edge of his perception, and what rose there was not the sparse suggestion of trees he had registered in the dark before. The Illumination Flowers’ gold reached across the misty obsidian-gold shroud covering that region and revealed the shapes within it, and the shapes were massive and distinct and wrong in the best possible way.
Ancient baobabs with trunks wider than the cave they had sheltered in, their roots spilling outward across the ground in networks that suggested their root systems extended further underground than their canopies extended above.
Banyan-like structures with aerial roots descending from their canopies to form secondary trunks, each secondary trunk itself large enough to constitute a forest feature independently. Towering fig trees whose branches spread in the specific sacred geometry of things that had grown according to older logic than ordinary biology followed, their bark shimmering with the obsidian-gold of ambient Source energy absorbed across uncountable eons of growth here.
And moving through the canopy between these, something that was not quite vine and not quite root but moved with the slow purpose of a living thing that had decided where it was going.
All of it shrouded in the misty obsidian-gold light. All of it vast!
His Source pulled toward it. The sensation was physical in the way that hunger was physical, a directional urgency from the deepest available layer of what he was, pointing at the forest the way a compass pointed at a fixed referent. Resources. Wonders!
His Source broadcasting that the forest held things it wanted to consume and that the wanting was serious.
He was still looking at it when the beach moved.
From the obsidian sand below the rocky terrain, shapes emerged!
