Chapter 5256: THE Strand of Broken Scales! III

A part of him walked across THE Source Lands.

The rest of him had not stopped moving.

This was the nature of the distributed existence he had built, a thing he had once found remarkable and had since come to regard as simply the way things were.

One body hunted with Eon through ancient Land while other bodies did what other bodies did, each one carrying enough of him to act without requiring instruction from the whole.

He was accustomed to the sensation by now the simultaneous awareness of several operational contexts, each running at full presence, none of them diminished by the others. Most beings found this concept difficult to hold. He found it convenient and glorious!

Across THE Wandering Territories and beyond, the Apeiron were moving.

They had taken to the task the way his people had always taken to tasks he set them: with the thoroughness of beings who understood that the alternative to succeeding was unacceptable. They knew they needed adversity!

The scattered Gilded Ones, displaced by his Directives to the most inhospitable coordinates Observable Existence offered, had found themselves in Transcendent Folds and Dead Wheels of Existence and stranger territories still. Some had ended up in THE Lands of the Dead, which Noah found darkly appropriate and did not dwell on further.

In a shattered remnant of THE Loom, a group had formed around Ul’moreth, THE Big Stepper.

He was still hairy.

This was the thing about Ul’moreth’s Apeiron form that distinguished it from every other Apeiron Noah had seen. Every other member of his people had accepted the scale architecture, the dorsal protrusions, the clean draconic musculature that the engineering produced. Ul’moreth had received all of these and had additionally received, through whatever the engineering had decided was appropriate for his specific foundation, an extraordinary quantity of thick blue-gold hair covering his massive frame from shoulders to ankles.

He had reportedly attempted to be free of it in the early minutes of his transformation, and had reportedly reached the conclusion that being free of it felt wrong in a way that was difficult to explain.

He had remained hairy.

He floated now at the center of a hunting group with the patient readiness of a being who had made peace with his appearance and was prepared to direct his attention toward other matters.

Beside him, Skoll, the very good boy, occupied the sky in the form he had arrived at through the Apeiron engineering, which was the form of a wolf that had decided the word massive needed a new definition and had provided one!

THE Emperor Penguin was present, compact and deliberate, its Source burns from the earlier collapse long since processed through its recovery cycle. THE Fisherman floated quietly at the group’s perimeter, which was where THE Fisherman tended to float.

Lumivara burned with a cold silver luminescence, which in the Apeiron form had become a silver luminescence that reminded observers of something that was also very large and very dangerous.

Groups like this were moving throughout the scattered displacement zones, Apeiron hunting in formations because the individual Gilded Ones, even stripped of Infinity by his Directives, remained more than any single Apeiron was built to address alone. The strategy was sound. His people understood it and were executing it with the discipline of beings who had been trained well and trusted the training!

As for Noah himself.

His Primus Apeiron form floated inside a Collapsed Transcendent Conceptual Fold. The fold had collapsed inward across whatever conceptual framework had sustained it, existence curving in on the abstract concepts the space had been organized around, reality layering through ideas rather than through geography. It should have been deeply disorienting as Noah merely found it interesting.

The multicolored deluge that had flooded through the fold burned across every surface the space offered, the Infinity finding the abstract contours of a conceptual space and expressing itself through them in ways that were visually extraordinary.

He was emanating...brilliance currently.

That was the word for what was happening through his Primus Apeiron form. The Galdr Source he was developing in THE Source Lands through one body was doing something across all his bodies simultaneously, a resonance between his Source at its most fundamental and the Primus Apeiron form that was his most refined external expression.

The obsidian multicolored glow of the Galdr Source was pressing outward through the Apeiron scales in a way that compounded with the scales’ existing Infinity expression rather than conflicting with it.

He felt compressed to his most true values. That was the sensation. Everything external stripped back to its irreducible core, even here where he had most of his external components intact, the Galdr Source insisting on the truth beneath the architecture.

His Infinite Scales had always been a framework he was pioneering as he went, adding to and restructuring as new knowledge arrived. The Primordial Source, the letters of THE Primordial Tongue, the Source Demarcation system...all of it was suggesting a deeper layer of the framework than he had built to yet. If he incorporated Source at its truest expression into his Infinite Scales, and then eventually, through the adversity of THE Source Lands, accessed THE Primordial Source itself, the resulting Scales would be something he did not have complete vocabulary for yet!

He was looking forward to finding it out!

Ragnar V49 was approximately forty meters ahead of him, separated by a stretch of curved conceptual reality that the fold had bent into something resembling a corridor made of collapsed ideas. The brutal smile was present. It was always present. Noah had come to regard it as a fixed feature of the environment wherever a Ragnar appeared, like the ground or the dark.

"You ready, big guy?"

Ragnar’s expression did not change.

"Yeah, buddy boy, I’m ready." He cracked his neck.

"I hope you are also ready for how this Observable Existence is about to be turned into barren wastelands. Haha. I hope you are ready!"

...!

BOOM!

Noah’s eyes went cold.

The Galdr Source blazed through every scale of his Primus Apeiron form simultaneously, the obsidian multicolored brilliance building in the fraction of an instant before the fraction concluded.

He shot forward!

BOOM!
