"Success will carry its own abundant rewards for you..."HUUM!
Noah’s eyes shone brightly as he looked at the terrifying woman in front of him, entirely serious now, repeating words that had clearly come down to her as instruction rather than suggestion.
An Observable Existence holding both Infinite Lifeforms and Source Lifeforms. A place of tremendous peril, built on a resource that made both sides stronger and had cost both sides hundreds of thousands of lives!
A domain beginning to show the same terminal collapse he had reached into and rebuilt once already, and a directive from some cold authority above the Swords of Existence that had specifically, immediately, redirected a Mesozoic Scale being to send him there.
The Order had come from above, and it pointed Noah precisely toward the convergence of the two authorities he was, at this very moment, trying to fuse within his own existence!
Okay!
Noah had no problem heading into a place like that!
"I’m curious about this," he said. "I accept."
The moment the words left him, the Source Armament he wore began to shine, and an influx of information bloomed in front of him.
Mission designated: THE Arkethys Inquiry.
Assigned Sword: Noah Osmont, newly cleared. Party leader: Dame Seraphine, THE Knighting Sword.
Objective primary: Investigate the unfolding instabilities within THE Arkethys Observable Existence, concentrated within the Source Lifeform regions. Determine the cause of the deterioration and the disproportionate effect on the Source side.
Objective secondary: If feasible, resolve the instability.
Operational constraints: The Treaty of Arkethys is in effect and must not be broken by the party.
Caution: The cause of the instability is unknown. Treat all parties present, Infinite Lifeform and Source Lifeform alike, as potential sources of the problem until cleared. Information is the objective. Conflict is the failure state.
Reward on success: Designated by the Order from above. Undisclosed until completion.
Noah read through it with the attention he gave anything that smelled like loot, and what it told him was clear enough! There should be boundless opportunities there as he could feel his in his Pillar of Infinity!
WUU!
Moments later, three blazing auras teleported to the farm.
The first to resolve was a small figure, shorter than the rest, with a wild mane of pale hair swept back from a sharp, restless face, the bright darting eyes of a being who took in everything at once.
The second was enormous, a broad and scarred mountain of a Source Lifeform whose stillness carried more menace than most beings managed with movement, his expression set into the permanent grim patience of someone who had done a great deal of violence and had stopped enjoying it a long time ago!
The third was a woman of composed, graceful poise, dark-haired and unhurried, her face giving away nothing.
All three were adorned in their unique Source Armaments, cut as suits and ties, obsidian and tailored, the formal uniform of beings who did serious work.
Noah gazed at them, and the brief status panels resolved above each.
Richard: Sword of Existence. Akashic Civilizational Intent: THE Lucid Aegis. Third rarity, Titan. An Intent of insight and warding, overwriting deception with clarity within its reach.
Botswana: Sword of Existence. Akashic Civilizational Intent: THE Wrathbound Bulwark. Third rarity, Titan. An Intent of endured violence turned to protection, imposing the record of a being who has survived everything and refuses to fall.
Lianna: Sword of Existence. Akashic Civilizational Intent: THE Veiled Current. Third rarity, Titan. An Intent of concealment and undercurrent, reorganizing what is seen and unseen around the wielder’s intention.
Three Fourth Scale beings, all of them carrying third-rarity Titan Intents. A heavy party, by any measure. The Swords had not sent him with weaklings for this mission, which told him something about how seriously the one who had given this mission from above took THE Arkethys Inquiry.
The three of them looked Noah up and down with frank interest, the small one’s bright eyes flicking across him with open curiosity, the large one assessing him the way a soldier assessed an unfamiliar weapon, the woman studying him with a stillness that gave away nothing about her conclusions.
Dame Seraphine gestured between them.
"These three will form the party with us," she said. "Get to know each other. Get comfortable with one another quickly, because for the next while, your lives will be in each other’s hands, and Arkethys is not a place that forgives Source Lifeforms that do not trust each other. You will learn their names and their power on the way. For now, know that they are among the best I could have asked for within the confines of this mission."
She waved her hand.
Above them, a radiant obsidian-gold leaf appeared, vast and luminous, burning with vibrant obsidian Primordial Source along every vein.
Vessel identified: A Source Leaf-Vessel. Crafted from a single leaf of THE Primordial Source Tree, an existence so foundational that very few lifeforms across the vastness have ever glimpsed it and lived to describe it. The leaf was engineered into a traversal vessel by an unknown craftsman of an unknown Scale. It carries THE Primordial Source natively in its structure, allowing it to traverse THE Undefined Gaps and approach Observable Existences that ordinary vessels cannot safely reach.
Noah looked at the burning leaf with shining eyes! A vessel cut from a leaf of a tree so rare its existence was nearly a rumor, engineered by hands no one could name, carrying THE Primordial Source through its veins!
Dame Seraphine gazed at Noah as she and the three others began to rise toward the leaf.
"Let us go," she said. "Existence is waiting."
HUUM!

<Arkethys>
They say two things about Arkethys, and both are true.
The first is that it will make you. There is no faster road to the Fourth Scale, no purer draught of progress, than the ore that grows in its ancient strata, where Infinity and THE Primordial Source lie bound together in defiance of every law that should forbid it. Beings who would have climbed for ages climb in years. This is the opportunity, and it is real.
The second is that it will kill you. It killed hundreds of thousands when they fought for it, and it has gone on killing quietly ever since, because the same ore that makes you will unmake you the instant it is disturbed wrongly, and the domain itself murders the careless through nothing but its air.
Make, or unmake. Arkethys offers both, always, at once.
The wise do not ask which they will receive. They ask only whether they were careful enough.
