Chapter 5448: Nova Athens! II

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

This was the convergence. Every party that had spent this long day tearing the Gilded order apart, drawing together over its final seat to end its reign across the entire Observable Existence. And the strangest, most wondrous part of it, the part that made Emotive’s chest tighten, was that nearly all of them had come from the same place. From the Lower Observable Existence. The one the Gilded Ones had nuked without a second thought, quintillions of small lives written off as an acceptable cost, and out of that graveyard had crawled the monsters now gathered to collect the debt.

Looking at it all, Emotive could not help the emotion that rose and choked her.

In existence, some beings reached tremendous power through raw talent. Others reached it through potential, the promise of what they might become. And some simply got lucky. She could honestly say she had been all three at once, because the luckiest thing she had ever done was make the choice to place her heart inside her fixation. She had stabilized his identity when he stood at Absolute Infinite and might have come apart, and he had since forged an identity so complete that he no longer needed her heart to hold it together. He kept it anyway. He had not discarded her the moment she stopped being necessary. He repaid what others gave him, always, and that single trait had turned out to be the rarest thing in all of creation.

And her existence was rising because of it, climbing at a terrifying rate, her Primordial Intent trembling on the edge of evolving into something beyond even what it was. Why would it not? She was entrenched in the body of her fixation, bathed in an Intent grander than Primordial, in fused Infinity and Primordial Source and a dozen things she could not name. She had bound herself to the rising tide of him, and the tide lifted everything it touched.

She was lucky. She was so unbearably lucky.

Emotive wrapped her arms around herself as tears spilled from her eyes, a manic light dancing behind them, and thought again that she was lucky, and that she would do anything, absolutely anything, to make sure she never lost this. She had given him her Everything already. She would give him THE Everything of all existence if he wanted it, would tear it out of reality and lay it at his feet. He only had to ask!

She looked up once more, and wonder cut clean through the grief.

Because all four of them were here. Together, again, in one darkening sky above a doomed golden city. All four claimers of the Oldest Paradox of Existence, Bounded Lifeforms once, small things once, who had each become something else entirely.

She had taken the claim of Chaos from Abaddon and carried it here. THE Primordial Paradox and THE Living Paradox held Paradox between them, up there in the haze. THE Creature loomed with Existence, still idly chewing a dead Mesozoic Scale dimension. And her fixation, THE Genesis Monarch, who had claimed THE First Tongue and gone so far past it that the claiming looked quaint now, stood wrapped in blue fire at the center of it all.

What a day, Emotive thought, crying and smiling at once beneath the towers she was about to help bring down!

What a day!

---

Bounded and Gilded.

Noah looked across the darkening sky above Nova Athens, at THE Creature chewing the last of a dead Pantheon, at the Paradoxes drifting in their crackling weavings, at Alexander and Nereon and the manic bright-eyed Emotive far below, and the thought settled over him with a strange weight. Every one of them had been a Bounded Lifeform once. Small things, born beneath a ceiling, designated from birth as the stock that Gilded Lifeforms were engineered to stand above. Bounded and Gilded were made to be uncrossable barriers, categories as fixed as the foundations of existence, and yet here they all were, the Bounded of a nuked Observable Existence gathered in the sky above the last Gilded Citadel, and it was the Gilded who trembled.

He turned his gaze toward Nova Athens itself, where the thirteen Mesozoic Scale Ealdor Gilded Ones had begun to rise from their towers at last, thirteen pillars of gold lifting into the amber haze with their Pantheons half-unfurled. It was about to be a grand battle. It was about to be the ending of an entire order, and every thread of this long day had converged here to witness it!

It was-....!

"Huh?"

His intuition buzzed, hard, and Noah turned somber between one heartbeat and the next.

A crimson light began to rise all around them. It came from nowhere and everywhere at once, seeping up through the substance of THE Braneworld like blood welling through cloth, and all of existence began to freeze. The amber haze stopped drifting. The panicking millions in the golden streets went still mid-stride. And down below, the thirteen Mesozoic Scale Ealdor showed expressions of shock and pure incredulity as, one after another, they began to disappear, plucked out of the freezing world like candles pinched between fingers. The Fourth Scale Gilded Ones followed instantly, hundreds of them vanishing in the same breath, an entire order’s remaining strength deleted from the board before a single blow had been struck.

Nearby, even THE Creature went grim.

"Protect yourselves!" he bellowed.

HUUUM!

But Noah had already acted. Before the words finished leaving THE Creature, surging waves of blue plasma had erupted from him, his Osmontian Source Infinity and his Intent pouring out together, and the lava-like cerulean wrapped around Emotive far below, folded over Alexander, closed around THE Great Usurper in his borrowed body, sheathed THE Primordial Paradox and Erwin both, and stretched even around the light-years of Thalassarch Nereon, bubble after bubble of his fused authority sealing every one of his people inside himself. Obsidian flames answered in kind across the sky as THE Creature wrapped Calypso and his own vast frame in burning dark.

And the skies turned the color of blood.

The crimson light gathered and deepened until the whole of the heavens above Nova Athens ran red, and out of that blood, a figure descended. It wore the shape of Borys, the Fifth Scale Infinite Lifeform who had taken a finger at Arkethys, but the thing looking out of Borys’s eyes was not Borys, had perhaps not been Borys for some time. The eyes were aloof and ancient and cruelly patient, and Noah knew them at once, because he had seen them carved in stone in a hidden temple, and he had seen them wearing his own aged face inside his heart.

THE Sealed One had come!
