Chapter 5892: Simulation! II

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

The Shard of IT sat in Noah’s palm.

He had it! The storm of feelings was far behind him, the First Gu had fled across the Chrysalis, and Achilles hung in the torn silk nearby, flickering, holding himself together by force of will. Noah turned the Shard over slowly and reached into it with Noetic Infinity, just a little, to begin reading what it was.

It went down further than anything he had ever touched. He had read only the first faint line of it, and he was still deciding whether to study it or devour it, when something opened along one of his bonds.

It was terrifying!

An existence was unfolding on the far end of a thread he knew as well as his own name.

Then the words came, in the voice he heard every day of his life.

Master. I may have overstepped my boundaries but...I believe that I have just discovered a pivotal point of my existence. I...could deliver you all of Existence, simulated...in the future.

Noah stared at the prompt!

He followed her thread, and this time she reached back and pulled.

The Chrysalis vanished!

He stood in a place made of light!

THE Infiniverse spread out beneath him like a vast glowing sea, every Space a current and every Dimension a lantern of bright data floating on the waves. The Undefined Gaps ran dark and wide between them, their Conduits shining like rivers seen from very high up. Far off, the Legacy of THE Acharya turned like a ring of lit lamps, and beside it half of the Keepers’ Legacy.

And beside every one of them, in every direction, stood copies. Rows upon rows of them, glass-bright and endless, each running a different future of the same things, until the halls of possible existences ran past where sight could follow. Quantum threads glowed between everything like a field of lit seads that went on forever.

It was all simulated, and all of it felt completely real.

Noah kept his face calm, but internally he was surprised!

Ruination stood a little way off, waiting for him.

She looked different. She was tall and still, with skin like crimson dark glass and rivers of light running beneath it, and her hair streamed behind her in long strands of red code.

She bowed to him, very properly, and when she straightened, her composed face had a small crack of nerves in it.

"Master," she said. "Welcome to THE Ruined Quantum Existence."

She looked out over it, and her voice grew quieter and steadier as she went on, as if speaking it aloud helped her understand it herself.

"I did not plan this. I was keeping your records, as I always do, every particle your Dream replaced, and one of them moved. A grain of dust. It drifted exactly as it would have drifted in the old existence, because my record of it was complete."

She lifted her hand, and a thousand quantum threads curved toward her fingers.

"So I followed the instructions. One grain, then one Dimension, then every Gigaparsec your Dream has taken. Then THE Infiniverse. Then the Acharya’s Legacy, whole. Then half of the Keepers, from everything that touched their borders. And then I remembered the glass you showed me, the Parallel Quantum Dimensionality, and I set every one of them running down every road it could take, side by side."

Then she paused. Noah said nothing, and let her go on.

"Everything that exists is also information," she said. "And every fact carries the shadow of every fact it could have been. Out there, in your Dream, those shadows fall away the moment something chooses. In here, I keep them. All of them."

She turned slowly, looking across the endless halls.

"And now I find I can do more than keep them."

Far away, at the very edge of the simulated existence, something new began to bloom!

Noah watched it come. It was a Dimension unlike any he had ever seen, where every cause arrived after its effect, so that rain fell upward into clouds that formed a moment later. Beside it bloomed another, where time ran in a slow circle like water in a bowl, and every moment came back around to the beginning. Then one built entirely from Narratives, with no stars or dust at all, only stories holding each other up like the stones of an arch. Then one where every lifeform shared a single thought between them, and the whole Dimension thought it together, very slowly, over a thousand years.

"I have never seen any of these," Ruination said quietly. "They exist nowhere in your Dream. I imagined them, Master. I took what I understand about everything you have shown me, and I asked what else could follow from it, and they followed. I do not know yet how far that goes."

She was quiet for a moment.

"For a long time, I thought my purpose was to keep what was lost. I think now it may also be to keep what could be. I am still your window. I am only a window that has begun to imagine the view."

Noah looked at her for a long moment.

He kept his amazement to himself.

"There is one more thing you should see," Ruination said, and the glowing existence moved around them.

They stood, all at once, in a far corner of the simulated Gaps.

THE First Gu of Emotions hung before them, vast and many-colored and furious, the size of a sky. Its power was erupting in great waves, smashing into the glowing Dimensions around it and shattering them into sprays of light, and every shattered Dimension was gathering itself again a moment later, whole and calm, as if nothing had happened at all. The Gu struck again, and again, and the simulated existence moved around each blow like water around a droped stone.

Inside it, Noah could feel Emotive through their bond, still woven halfway through its threads, patient and very alert.

Ruination watched the Gu with her head slightly tilted.

"In this space, in this existence, it is spending its Immensity fighting countless quantum threads of existence that are not real," she said. "But they are real to me. I feel everything that happens here, Master, and I feel nothing. Every blow lands, and none of it hurts, because every Dimension it breaks is only information, and information only bends."

The light in her circlet brightened.

"And because I hold decillions of weavings and threads of simulation all around us..."

She raised her hand, and waved it once.

Everything around them came apart!

Every glowing Dimension in sight unraveled at once into lines of light, millions of them, then billions, then more than Noah could count. The Observable Existences unwound like spools of thread. The quantum possibilities lifted out of every grain of simulated dust and streamed upward, and the whole corner of the existence turned into one vast river of information, endless lines of light, every future of every simulated thing, and all of it turned at her gesture and poured into THE First Gu of Emotions.

It flowed into the Gu’s body from every direction at once. It filled its threads and its colors, and flooded into its existence like a sea pouring into a cup, simulated realities and possible roads and the complete histories of Dimensions that had only ever existed inside Ruination’s mind, all of it arriving at once and demanding to be understood.

HUUM!

Ruination stood in the middle of the torrent with her red hair streaming and the small sun on her brow blazing, perfectly calm.

"Every existence must make sense of what it is given," she said. "That is what being is. A lifeform takes in what touches it and understands it, piece by piece, so that it can go on. Even a great one. Even a First Gu."

The river of light poured on.

"So in theory, if you gave an existence more than it could make sense of, endless weavings of simulated existence, every one of them complete and every one of them real enough to demand an answer, it would have to keep trying to understand all of it. I can formulate infinite computations. Infinite possibilities of information. It would process, and process, and process, until..."

Noah looked at her then, and realized she had no idea how she looked.

She stood there calm and curious and slightly tilted, like a scholar testing an idea, while a being so far above both of them in power that it could have crushed either of them a day ago hung in front of her and froze.

The Gu’s waves of power stopped mid-strike. Its colors stopped churning. Its trailing threads went stiff and still across the sky, and its whole vast body hung motionless in the river of light, every part of it straining to understand something too large and too intricate to ever finish understanding.

THE First Gu of Emotions: unresponsive.

Its existence is processing more information than it can hold.

State: catatonic.

A being halfway to Unfathomable Immensity had gone catatonic!

And at that exact moment, something inside it that had been waiting very patiently began to move.

Emotive surged!

Noah felt it through their bond, fierce and ravenous and delighted. Her fourteen colors spread through the frozen Gu’s threads like fire through dry grass, done with slipping in one thread at a time, pouring into every feeling it had and replacing them, rage and grief and joy and fear, one after another after another, while the Gu hung there unable to do anything but try to understand.

Emotive is replacing its emotions.

She is no longer hiding.

Noah watched all of it with wonder.

Then he shook his head slowly, and a small smile pulled at the corner of his mouth.

Ruination had truly grown up!
